POSTING INFORMATION

[This RP will be using post headers, which serve to help let other RPers know who is interacting with whom and at what time, as well as keep track of character effects that last more than one post. I believe in one rule about post headers, and that rule is K.I.S.S (Keep It Simple, Stupid*)

* no offense intended

Therefore, this is all I expect of a proper heading to an RP post:

Character Name and Species
Faction and Orientation
Location
(Optional line for any ill or beneficial effects your character may be suffering, and how long this affect has lasted for)
RPers Affected (Both character name and RPer name)

Thus, here is what it would look like in the RP:

Vernonia the Nuzleaf
Wild Faction/Terran Oriented
Route 111, Near Mauville Settlement, North Gate
(Optional Ill/Beneficial Effect: Post 1/3)
Affected Characters: Tango the Lombre (GingerDixie)

USING MANIFEST ABILITIES

As is stated in the premise below, Manifest abilities cannot be controlled with utmost precision. However, they can be used, and when the time comes that you wish to use an ability in the RP, I ask that you please quote it from your sign-up sheet and include it in your post below when it is used, like so:

[SPOIL]They had been walking since Fallarbor Town, and her feet were killing her.

It was bad enough that this particular route had a terrible paucity of trees, but today the sun had decided to shine on the two traveling companions with full force, drying out and scorching Tango's sensitive skin and making her feel exposed and vulnerable. More than once, she'd seen a Pelipper or a Swellow darting by above with big canvas bags strapped to their sides, wishing she had wings to fly away too...if it meant the difference between staying here in the open and watching her mate wince with every step he took or finally finding a godsforsaken forest already.

Vernonia fiddled with her own bag...a cumbersome, loud human thing that she absolutely hated, but as much as she didn't like how it chafed her when she climbed, Tango had insisted she get one in Fallarbor so that gathering food would be easier and quicker. No one ever knew when the rotters would attack, and when they did, it could be weeks before it was safe to forage again. So, getting as much as they could when they could was a must, and this bag would supposedly increase the amount they could carry at least twofold.
We have to consider the factor of a much more dangerous enemy now, Vernonia, Tango had told her when she'd fought with him on it. Before, when you and I traveled in bands and numbers were on our side, that was enough. But now, it's the numbers that are against us now. Because there's only us. We're the only survivors. And now, it's the predators that have the home front.

She supposed he was right. Still...she hated being the one to carry it. But she was the faster of the two of them, and could easily scuttle up a tree if there was a need to. Ergo, the food would be safe and so would she. And if that didn't say something about how he felt about her, then she didn't know what did.

Suddenly, a glint of metal caught the Nuzleaf's eye in the distance, and she perked up suddenly from the first sighting of a human structure from the sand and rocks of this blasted trail. Thankfully, the ground seemed to be getting more and more vegetated as well, and she let out a whoop of relief as Mauville loomed closer, and she wrapped her arms around Tango's neck, causing the Lombre to yelp in pain as she accidentally aggravated his developing sunburn.

"Almost there, Tango! We're almost there!" She cries out, punching the air with victory as she did so, smiling back at her mate as he grins tiredly back. "Rest, relaxation, all of that just ahead! So what if it's in a stuffy human place...at least the Gallade's folk are kind!"

"Not to mention they have water..." Tango mumbles back, rubbing at his dried-out skin. "And I could use a nice soak after that walk...spirits damned, I didn't even know it was possible for a tropical place to be this hot and dry."

They approached the city walls, Vernonia now walking with a spring in her step as the northern gate towered over them, guarded by several mon on the top and bottom, alert for any signs of rotter hordes that could be coming their way. Their eyes widened when Tango and Vernonia approached, and the Nuzleaf waved excitedly to them...that is, until the shriek of a Screamer pierced the air behind the two wild mon.

Then it was chaos.

First, Tango had pushed her forward, running as fast as his tired legs would carry him as the sentries immediately sounded alarms, blowing on horns and sending electricity-blast flares into the sky to warn the others in the surrounding area of a rotter attack. Vernonia ran as fast as she could, pain shooting up her legs with every step as they struggled to close the distance between them and the Mauville settlement. A Luxray sentry ran past them, his Manifested voice box sending out a roar like a shockwave that seemed to knock most of the horde back, giving them some time as the rotters in the back tripped and stumbled over the ones in the front that had fallen over. Their own ungodly shrieks and gurgles raked the air like thousands of little claws; Vernonia didn't dare look back to see how many there were.

They had just gotten to the gate when Tango suddenly shoved her off the path, gesturing to the city wall as she cried out in alarm. "W-What are you doing?!"

"Go up!" Tango shouted frantically, motioning to the side of the wall. "Up the wall! They can't get you there!"

"Are you crazy!?"

"Do it, Ve! I trust you!" Tango pants, panic and worry clouding his eyes as the Luxray sentry suddenly shrieks from behind them, then goes silent. "GO! NOW! GET UP THERE!"

Too panicked to argue and now worried that if she didn't do what he said, she wouldn't see him again, she ran as fast as she could toward the wall next to the gate, that familiar tingling feeling in her hands and feet growing stronger before she leapt full force at the wall, praying this time that her abilities would work and not leave her stranded on her *** as it did when she often needed it.

Gecko Climb- Under extreme stress, Vernonia can scale walls and sheer cliffs, thanks to a secretion of super-adhesive sap that oozes from the palms of her hands and the soles of her feet. This ability is extremely short-lived, however, as the sap will literally stick to anything and lose its tackiness over time, giving her only a window of a minute at most to climb.

Thankfully, this time she stuck. But she knew it wouldn't be long before she didn't stick anymore, and she hurriedly scrambled as fast as she could up Mauville's facade just as a rotter swiped her backside, nearly tearing her bag from her hip as attacks fired off left and right below. She worried for Tango, worried for the sentries down below...but now was not the time to turn around and look back. If she did, she would be dead. Tango knew this...knew she couldn't afford to die now. Not with so much already riding on her.

She leapt onto the second floor of the city just as she started to lose her grip, sprawling out on the walkway as spots swam in her vision. Blood rushed in her ears as the few sentries who had remained behind rushed over to her, calling for medics as she used the last of her energy to curl in on herself, crossing her arms over her middle protectively.

She certainly hoped that Tango had made it...their child needed its father.

Story:

[SPOIL] What started out as a breakthrough in medical technology ended up becoming the end of the world as we know it.

Virion PK-RS 0-089, also known as Pokerus 89, was a strain of Pokerus that had the unique characteristic of being transmissible to humans who worked closely with Poison-type Pokemon, particularly urban species such as Grimer and Muk. Due to the abilities of the Pokerus particle (a particle that exhibited traits that closely resemble the replication and latency patterns of a retrovirus), the virion had adapted to pass from human to Pokemon due to the closeness of their living spaces. As such, this particle was a common cause for many mild, flu-like symptoms among the populaces of the world’s largest cities: Viridian, Goldenrod, Mauville, Pastoria, Castelia, and Lumiose.

Due to its effects within the human population, Pokerus 89 was isolated and experimented in an underground lab in Mauville City, Hoenn, with the goal to find a vaccine that would prevent the interspecial spread of the organism. However, during the tests, something changed. Call it a breach in protocol, or call it plain, stupid curiosity...but the actions of one scientist who knew the virion’s beneficial effects on Pokemon devised and tested a hypothesis to see if the mild annoyance that Pokerus 89 had upon humans could in fact be written out in favor of these augments: in layman’s terms, he wanted to create an organism that superpowered human abilities in the same way that it did Pokemon’s, thus creating a strain of a literal “super-hero” virus. This scientist had gotten a hold of inactive particles that were soon to be infused in an experimental vaccine mixture, introduced a gene that would both block the particle’s ill effects in human cells and allow for full human infection, and then introduced the newly mutated virus into a laboratory sample of what he documented as “willing subjects”, and waited to see what his concoction would create.

The results: he had made a gross miscalculation.

By the time the Mauville research facility had known what one of their own had done, said scientist and ninety percent of the original test group was dead, and the virus was on its way to a slow burn around the Pokemon world. One foreign gene had mutated the virion into something unseen by scientific communities before: it retained its ability to infect both humans and Pokemon, but the consequences of infection in both hosts had become something so much deadlier. In humans, it caused a systemic infection of malignant and rotting tumors, liquefied whole muscle groups and finally drove their victims mad until their death, while in Pokemon it caused the same flu-like symptoms as it had in humans, with a 50 percent chance to kill.

For five years, what was left of humanity raced to find a cure, but in the end, the ever-changing, retroviral nature of what had become known as PXH-334, or the Pokecross virus, had completely wiped out humanity and eliminated half of the Pokemon population across the known world. Cities and general society crumbled as humans died by the droves, and whichever of their Pokemon survived their own infections were soon tossed into a growing wasteland to fend for themselves, spreading Pokecross into the wilds. Eventually...there was nothing left of the six thriving regions but burning husks of what had once been, and the chilling wraiths of Pokemon long forgotten were left to pick about the scraps, fighting for survival over what little remained of the land.

That was twenty years ago.

Since then, the Pokemon world has begun to rebuild itself bit by bit, in part thanks to the discovery of one of the virion’s Pokemon side effects: Manifests. Every Pokemon who survived their infection discovered that their bodies never really got rid of the virus. Instead, it simply concentrated in certain places of their bodies, granting them augments to the powers they already possessed or in some cases gave them completely new powers altogether. The exact body part on the Pokemon in which the virus was contained and therefore the new powers Manifested in seemed completely random, though they could all be easily sorted into three basic categories: Shallow, Mesenteric, and Deep.

At first, Pokemon used these Manifests for war. Trained Pokemon actively sought and snuffed out weaker wild Pokemon to keep them from overrunning the cities, while wild Pokemon retaliated for those who had been killed and attacked the trained in droves. At the epicenter of it all was a trained Sawk that went by the name of Apchagi, who had founded a settlement of trained Pokemon in Mauville that had one goal: snuff out the weak to pave the way for the strong. As time went on, however, and trained Pokemon were beginning to even out the wild population, an unexpected third variable entered the equation: humans, or more specifically, their corpses.

Nicknamed “rotters” by the trained Pokemon of Mauville, these super powered human zombies began attacking Pokemon, wild and trained alike; again drastically reducing the numbers of both sides. While the rotters had no sense of cognition and were relatively harmless when confronted singly, the problem came from the fact that one almost never saw a lone rotter, especially in former cities like Mauville. They always traveled in discernable packs, and in this manner, their danger increased tenfold. A single pack together could scale a wall, break a window, and tear apart a Pokemon piece by piece, destroying all that Apchagi and his privileged few had taken days to set up in a matter of hours. Eventually, these packs increased to hordes, and it wasn’t long before the angry ferals of the wilds as well as the hungry, empty minds of humans long past mounted enough pressure for the Sawk’s “utopia of the elite” to finally crack and shatter with the strain.

Almost overnight, the largest city in Hoenn had gone through a complete metamorphosis. Gone was the unspoken war of trained versus wild. Gone was the notion of living off of what scraps of civilization remained in an increasingly dangerous, wild world. There was only one enemy of life on earth, and that enemy was the undead. If another world was indeed meant to rise from humanity’s ashes, then it required that all pull together and do their part, each mon helping the other in areas they lacked.

Thus was the philosophy of the new Mauville Settlement, and thus this atmosphere of camraderie began to spread throughout the region...a call to war not against each other, but against the monster that impeded their ticket to a new beginning. [/SPOIL]

Setting:

[SPOIL]Though PXH-334 has been widespread throughout the Pokemon world, the RP will focus primarily in the Hoenn Region, concentrating mostly in Mauville and the areas around it. As it was the epicenter of commercial and trade in human times, under the Mauville Settlement regime it has become both the tactical headquarters of the ongoing zombie-eradication efforts as well as a haven for Pokemon traveling from all corners of the region. All NPC letter-carriers will base themselves in Mauville, and fly to other areas of the region to collect information and postage from other Pokemon (See Side Missions and Pokemon Postal below). A list of other major settlements in the region include:

Lilycove Settlement (Based out of the abandoned Department Store, with a few fortified areas located in other major buildings of the old city)

Mt. Chimney Settlement (Based out of Fiery Path, but postage lands on the peak of the mountain. Also encompasses areas of old Lavaridge and Fallarbor)

Slateport Settlement (Based out of the Slateport Shipyard)

Moss-Topolis Network (Half-based in Mossdeep Space Center, half based in the Cave of Origin, and encompassing the wide swatch of ocean and trenches between the two)

Travel during daylight hours is often preferred, as the Pokecross zombies are light sensitive and less likely to attack during the day. Occasionally, travelers will run across small hordes of zombies during the daytime, and during this time, zombies can be avoided by staying out of their line of sight. However, at night, all Pokemon, trained and wild, will hole up far out of reach by sundown, which is when whatever is left of the human population coalesces into large hunting packs containing hundreds of individuals. It is HIGHLY stressed by members of both factions that night travel is essentially suicide unless one can dig or fly, so take caution when accepting side missions that require doing so.

Side Missions and Pokemon Post

[SPOIL]Every ten or so posts, there will be an update post put together by either one of the GMs. The main point of this post is to keep track of who is doing what and where, but the other purpose is to make known any Side Missions brought in by the Pokemon Post, a world-wide coalition of Flying-Type Pokemon who have opened up channels of communication both intra- and inter-regionally by flying letters written by Pokemon all over the world. Correspondence from other parts of the region flies in to all the major settlement bases, and any missions will be recorded and placed under the “Pokemon Post” heading in the update post in the following format:

To: (Insert Character name here [Player’s screenname in brackets]. “To whom it may concern” will indicate a Side Mission that can be taken by anyone.)
From: (Name of employer, often NPC or Elite NPC)
Subject: (Header that has something to do with the job at hand, i.e. “Escort” or “Rescue”)
Body: (Description of job)
Reward: (Can be anything from extra food rations to rare items such as Potions or Status Heals, and buffs such as +1 Inventory space in the form of a bag or belt.) [/SPOIL]

Inventory:

[SPOIL]All characters, Trained or Wild, will have a limited inventory. Bipedal Pokemon with no accessories will have a default Size 2 Inventory (can hold one thing in either hand/paw/tentacle) and all quadrupedal Pokemon with no add-ons will have a default Size 1 Inventory (hold 1 thing in their mouth). Water-bound Pokemon have a default Size 0 inventory, therefore making them unable to carry things without an accessory.

Inventory can be increased by trading items for Bags at any settlement, with the general rule being that the larger the Bag, the more “expensive” it is. Below is a general list of bag sizes, the recommended “price”, and the inventory increase it gives:

Small Bag (Pouch size)- Can be bought by trading berries or other useful common tools, +2 Inventory

Medium Bag (Satchel size)- Can be bought by trading rarer types of berries or low-tier medical supplies, +4 Inventory

Large Bag (Knapsack size)- Can be bought by trading rare medical supplies or intact human technology for study (such as Pokeballs that still work), +6 Inventory

Postal Bag - Only available for members of Pokemon Postal, +6 to +8 inventory, depending on the size of the Pokemon (contact a GM for details)

Your character may start with a bag that grants you only 1 extra inventory space (space of 3). Larger bags must be bought. 1 item = 1 used inventory slot, no exceptions. Also keep in mind that full inventories can weigh down a Pokemon and affect their ability to run or evade zombies, so use your inventory space wisely. [/SPOIL]

Faction/Orientation Information:

[SPOIL]Factions:

Trained

These Pokemon were part of a Pokemon trainer's team before PXH-334 started its course of destruction, and as such are far more powerful and have access and knowledge to use a variety of man-made devices that they may or may not find around the city. However, keep in mind that while they may know how to use certain devices such as Potions or Status Heals, they do not possess the knowledge to operate vehicles or elevators, as many Pokemon were often in their Pokeballs when humans performed these duties. They are also, barring whatever Manifests they may have, more powerful than a wild Pokemon, meaning more powerful moves and generally being physically stronger in general, due to the many vitamins and extensive training a typical Pokemon trainer does with their Pokemon.

Due to their training these Pokemon also hold the idea that they are a "civilized" group, and as such, try to recreate human customs and courtesies when meeting in groups amongst each other; in contrast, wild populations in their eyes, are uneducated, uncivilized, and there is little hope for them to become anything but. Their lacking power levels only further prove to the trained faction that they should be considered separate and superior to the wild Pokemon, and once the Pokecross zombies began to appear, their picking off of the abundant wild populace is considered a form of natural selection in the trained faction's eyes.

Wild

These Pokemon were born and raised in their wild, natural environments, whether it be in an urban setting or the wilderness. In this case, however, most wild Pokemon regardless of their natural origin (or orientation as it will be called below) have now been forced to live in the outskirts and wilds around formerly populated areas due to their being systemically driven out by the trained populace, and are forced to make do with whatever they're given to make out a living. Unlike the trained Pokemon, wild Pokemon cannot use man-made items and must depend on natural plants such as medicinal herbs and Berries...the upside to this, however, is that many of them are very good at identifying the differences between these plants, and can utilize them in much the same way trained mons can use Potions.

Wild Pokemon are much less organized than trained ones, but that simply means that their numbers at any given moment cannot be predicted. Given the high population density of the wilds post-infection, wild Pokemon are never alone, even if they prefer to be. Their attitudes are Machiavellian in nature, but if a common enemy is spotted, chances are they will all form a temporary bond and pull together (especially if it's a trained Pokemon as they are all aware of how much more powerful those Pokemon are) until said enemy is defeated; their bonds will then dissipate and the pack will go their separate ways. Wild Pokemon are also known as notorious hoarders, and any items they can get from cities (whether they actually know how to use them or not) will be hidden away in hard-to-reach areas and heavily guarded until a use for them is found.

Orientations

Urban

If a Pokemon is urban-oriented, this Pokemon's natural environment (i.e. their Pokedex-stated location) is in man-made structures and settlements, whether it be ancient or modern. Urban Pokemon are incredibly adept at making their ways through city streets, and many of them are even active rebuilders, making what repairs they can to buildings crumbling from neglect if only to make the Pokemon who now occupy them safer. They will recognize Pokemon Centers and Marts, prime places for scavenging coveted necessities, as well as know how to pick their way into houses to hunt for food. However, these Pokemon do not do well in natural environments, tend to be less aware of their surroundings, and tend to be the worst at differentiating between edible and poisonous flora, often finding more comfort in the use of man-made products despite their increasing rarity.

Terran

If a Pokemon is terran-oriented, this Pokemon's natural environment is in natural biomes, such as forests, deserts, mountains, caves, or tundra. Like urbans, terran-oriented Pokemon know the wilds like the backs of their hands, are always ready to run or fight at the first sign of threat, and are generally the most adaptable of the two orientations, provided one does not leave the wilderness. They have no troubles making food and medicines out of natural plants...but sticking a terran in any city environment is sure to confound them, as they will immediately become lost at the absence of many familiar smells and cramped over the proximity of buildings. Terrans are often singled out fairly readily by both those familiar around the city and zombies, making them easy targets when exposed should they be unable to get to a suitable shelter in time. [/SPOIL]

Manifests:

[SPOIL]Pokemon who survived the initial Pokecross infection have developed "manifests", or augmented abilities, that passively enhance their powers for a limited amount of time as well as grant them three additional powers that are exclusive to both the type of manifest that they have inherited and the type of Pokemon they are. Currently, there are three recognized categories that a Manifest can fall into, which will be briefly explained below.

Keep in mind that Manifests are still poorly understood by the Pokemon that possess them and are thus rather hard to control, making their use limited and sporadic. That being said, I am trusting you all to not abuse the powers I am otherwise giving you full creative freedom over...do NOT ruin that trust or I will not hesitate to remove you from the RP.

Shallow Manifest: A Pokemon with a shallow Manifest stores the latent PXH-334 virion in their cutaneous tissue, meaning that the sources of their Manifest powers and ability can come their skin, hooves, horns, fur, mane, paws, etc. An example of a Shallow Manifest ability would be toughened and super-protective skin, supernatural speed, a horn or set of horns (depending on how many the manifested had before their infection) that can be protruded and retracted at will, etc. Powers relating to this manifest must relate to the part of the body that is manifested, an example being able to exude a protective aura or dispel a harmful explosion from manifested skin.

Mesoteric Manifest: A Pokemon with a mesoteric Manifest stores the latent PXH-334 virion in their musculoskeletal system. Signs of this type of manifest include incredibly quick reaction times, supernatural strength, bones that remain unbroken even under ungodly amounts of pressure, and supernatural endurance, and powers that relate to it can range from attacks guaranteed to shatter natural or devised barriers or shatter the bones of any Pokemon who does not also possess a mesoteric manifest.

Deep Manifest: A Pokemon who posesses a deep Manifest stores the latent PXH-334 virion in their brains and, consequentially, their minds. These Pokemon have become clairvoyants, mind or aura readers, and empaths, with Pokemon who already possessed these abilities gaining a sharp increase in their skill in using them. Powers that relate to these manifests can range from psychic attacks on another Pokemon's mind or making another's brain literally explode from sheer mental power alone, making this one of the deadliest Manifests currently known. Unfortunately, not many Pokemon possess this Manifest as Pokecross was known to have a high mortality rate once the brain was reached; not to mention it didn't seem as though the virion cared much for neural tissue. [/SPOIL]

Lyra the Lopunny
Trained Faction/Terran Oriented
Route 118, east of Mauville
Affected RPers: Any in Mauville

Lyra's head hurt.

She'd been walking west since sunrise, avoiding confrontation by hiding or running away, and now the sun was bearing down on her with full force. She stopped and leaned against a tree for a moment, catching her breath. Normally she would travel at night, to avoid being in the sun with her heavy fur, but that Luxio had been adamant that she avoid night whenever possible. The depth of his wounds lent gravity to his words, and she took them to heart. But, as she leaned against the tree, her Silk Scarf limp in the heat, she wondered if it would be better to die in a fight than of heat exhaustion.

That's no way to think, she told herself. You are not dead yet. Mauville must be close. You're also a healer: they wouldn't refuse entry to a healer, would they? Her resolve strengthened, she pushed off the tree and continued walking. At least most of the pokemon she encountered along the way either didn't bother with her, or stopped looking a few minutes after she ran and hid. And she had yet to encounter any of these ghastly "rotters" the Luxio had described. Hopefully they couldn't climb trees.

The sound of waves crashing on a beach reached her sensitive ears, and a few minutes later she was at the stretch of sea between her and Mauville. The massive human city's walls still stood: a good sign. But she could not hear any signs of life over the ocean, nor could she see any movement on the opposite shore. Lyra took a delicate step from the grass onto the beach. The sand was hot, but not unbearable, and she hopped to where the sea began. She couldn't possibly swim across. It was too far: surely she would drown from the weight of her fur. But without a way across, she was as good as dead when night fell. Her luck was bound to run out some day, and she'd rather be inside a city anyway. Nature was nice, but she'd grown up in human dwellings.

Looking around, she spotted a neat row of rocks stretching from one end of the northern part of the route to the other. The boulders were spaced fairly far apart, but not so far apart that Lyra didn't think she could get across. She hopped onto the large gray boulder on the beach at the start of the line. After making certain that her Silk Scarf and pouch were securely fastened, then bent down on all fours and leapt to the next large rock, several meters away. Her hands scrabbled for purchase and found it, as did her feet.

One down, three to go, Lyra thought. She lifted herself slightly, pushed off the rock, and succeeded at grabbing the next one in line. This wasn't that hard; she was already at the middle of the route, and the last two rocks were fairly close together. She pushed off again, grabbed a handhold on the fourth rock–and lost her footing. This last rock had accumulated a layer of slime, and she could not find a place to grip with her back paws. Her lower half went into the water. She jerked her ears up and out of the way before they, too, became soaked, but already her grip was starting to falter as her water-soaked fur weighed her down.

The Lopunny cried out, gripping onto the rock with all her might. "HELP!" she screamed, hoping she was loud enough to carry over the waves and into the city.

((OOC: Hope that's okay for a first post. I'm assuming this is ORAS Mauville, with the fancy walls and inner courtyard.))

Anubis the Lucario & Nina the Gardevoir
Trained Faction/Terran Oriented & Trained Faction/Urban Oriented
Mauville City
Affected RPers: Lyra the Lopunny (Huntress)

"Anubis." A familiar voice rang in his ear, "Anubis, wake up." As the soft voice called out to him Anubis began to stir until opening his eyes. Upon looking around he found the source of the voice. A female Lucario sitting nearby. "Glad to see you're finally awake. It looked like you were gonna be asleep the whole day if no one woke you up." She told him.

Anubis held his head as he slowly got out of bed and stood up saying, "That would've been inconvenient. Thank you, Reala. I appreciate it." He looked around for a moment and walked to the door saying, "I guess Nina is out and about as usual?"

"Of course.", Reala replied. "You know she's not gonna sit and wait for you to wake up before going off on her own."

"She'll be fine. As long as she doesn't go outside the city without the rest of us, she can take care of herself." Anubis stated confidently. He was not wrong in that assumption, while they were traveling together Nina has proven to be able to hold her own against anything they went up against. Granted, that didn't stop Anubis from worrying about her from time to time.

"You know she worries about you when you go out there with Roland and the others without her." Reala told him as she approached him. "And so do I."

Just when Anubis was about to respond to that statement, they both her the door open as a familiar Gardevoir walked into the room and noticed Anubis. "Oh hey, you're finally awake! Took you long enough.", she remarked.

"Good morning to you too, Nina." Anubis replied.

"Ya ya ya, good morning and all that. Are we gonna go see if there's something we can do today or not?" Nina asked, sounding annoyed.

"Of course." Anubis turned to Reala and told her, "I'm off to see Roland, I'll be back, alright?"

"Just be careful out there." Reala told Anubis as she watched them leave.

Anubis and Nina started off to find Roland when suddenly they heard something. It was hard to make out, but from what they could tell it sounded like a scream for help.

"What the hell was that?!" Nina exclaimed.

"That sounded like was coming from outside the city." Anubis stated. After a brief sigh, he closed his eyes and focused until the appendages on the back of his head rose into the air. Looking into the direction the noise came from he eventually gave a more stern expression behind his closed eyes and said, "There's an aura outside the city. We should go check it out." Before suddenly heading off in that direction.

"Wait! Shouldn't we go tell someone about it or something?" Nina asked right as Anubis sped off. After giving a frustrated sigh, Nina quickly teleported in the direction Anubis went, while she was able to keep up with him, between him running while she was teleporting to his location just to keep up with him, they weren't able to talk at all. Eventually they made it to the outskirts of the city where Nina noticed someone holding onto a boulder in the water. "Anubis, look!" As she pointed the Pokemon out to him.

"I see!" Anubis replied, looking closely at the Pokemon, Anubis saw that it was a Lopunny, and upon closer inspection they appeared to be wearing an accessory of some kind, which told him the Pokemon must've belonged to a human. With the knowledge that the Pokemon was at risk of drowning, Anubis wordlessly jumped away from Nina and landed cleanly onto the boulder the Lopunny was holding onto before grabbing it's arm. "It's alright, I-" Anubis was about to say when suddenly he lost his footing and fell into the water, quickly using his free paw to grab onto the boulder he was just standing on.

"Anubis!" Nina exclaimed as she watched Anubis end up in the same predicament as the Lopunny. She had to act fast and she knew it, so she quickly reached out to Anubis and the Lopunny and began to concentrate her Psychic power onto them. After a moment she managed to levitate both of them out of the water and over safely to where she was. "What the ****, Anubis?! Are you crazy?! You could've gotten yourself killed!" She yelled out loud.

Anubis took a moment to catch his breath before saying, "But you got us out just fine, and that's what matters in the end." He looked over to the Lopunny and asked, "Are you okay? Everything's going to be alright now." He then turned to Nina and told her, "Nina, why don't you take her to Reala. I have to tell Roland about this, alright?"

"Wait, what? Hold on Anubis!" But Nina's words fell on deaf ears as Anubis was already heading off to find Roland. After giving off an annoyed sigh, Nina looked over to the Lopunny and said, "Uh...Hey! Sooo can you walk just fine by yourself? I mean, I can get us both to Reala myself, I'm just asking."

It seemed Lyra's cry for help had been answered. She managed to claw her way far enough up the boulder to see a Lucario and a Gardevoir standing on the beach, evidently summoned by her shrieking. The Gardevoir was pointing at her. After a heart-stopping moment where neither of the two pokemon did anything, the Lucario bounded right onto the boulder and grabbing her arm. "It's alright, I-" it said, and then lost its footing and fell into the water with her.

"The rock's covered in slime," Lyra whimpered, gripping the Lucario's forearm with her right paw to try and keep him from going under as well. Not that it helped much, since she was missing two fingers on that hand, but it made her feel slightly less useless. She looked at the Gardevoir standing on the shore. "I hope your friend doesn't try the same thing. She-sorry, they-would probably just end up like us." Lyra had met a male Gardevoir once, who'd taken great offense when she'd referred to him as a "she." That was a moment she didn't want to relive any time soon.

The sensation of floating snapped her out of her memories, and she noticed a purple-pink aura surrounding her and the Lucario. The Gardevoir lifted them both out of the water and deposited them on the beach. Lyra fell to her hands and knees almost instantly, the weight of her fur dragging her down. But by Palkia did it feel good to have solid ground under her again. The Gardevoir cursed out the Lucario, naming him as Anubis, for nearly killing himself trying to get to Lyra.

"But you got us out just fine, and that's what matters in the end," Anubis retorted. He looked down at where Lyra was shivering lightly, the cold sea water having soaked into her downy undercoat. "Are you okay?" he asked. "Everything's going to be alright now."

"I'll be f-fine in a minute. Thank you for helping me," Lyra said. She rubbed at her leg fur. No good: it would be soaked for hours, if not an entire day, if she didn't get access to a hair dryer or something. And that seemed very unlikely, given the circumstances. She could only hope mold wouldn't set in: the first and last time that had happened was unpleasant, to say the least. The Lucario told "Nina" to take her to "Reala," then ran off. She assumed Nina was the Gardevoir, but who was Reala? The Gardevoir shouted after him, then sighed. This must happen quite often.

"Uh...hey!" said the Gardevoir. "So can you walk just fine by yourself? I mean, I can get us both to Reala myself, I'm just asking."

"Yes, I can walk." She pushed herself to her feet. Her legs still felt heavier than normal, but she could walk fine. "I'm Lyra, by the way. You're Nina, right? And that was Anubis? It's nice to meet you. Or rather, one of you."

She smiled and combed a paw through her creamy ear fur. "I, um, was hoping to find some refuge in Mauville? This Luxio told me it was where a lot of pokemon were fighting against those awful walking corpses. I'm a healer, if that helps my case. Well, former-healer-in-training I guess. I know a lot, just not...everything."

The ash storms of northern Hoenn were rather hellish, to begin with. Ever since the outbreak of of some virus, I've noticed that each and every trainer slowly began to turn into cannibalistic monsters whose violence would rival even that of a school of Sharpedo. I've seen them walk and tread these lands restlessly, as if finding some purpose. Unfortunately, the nightmarish reality of it all was that there was no purpose for them. All of the human nurses began tearing at other people's flesh rather than repairing them, elderly folk are now gnawing at other undead children, pokemon all over the region or either scared, hostile, or they've broken down and have found no purpose in common propriety. What about me, you ask?

I'm all of those.

Ever since my sweet release from those cladheaded Magnemite bastards, the world felt a bit too real. The blood that was simulated within this "New Mauville" (what those uppity Pokemon seemed to call it) that I lived in for years was suddenly more grotesque than I had anticipated. Anger was not only an emotion that could be displayed, but felt by others, and can somehow fill a silence with breakneck tension. And then there were the old voices inside my head. Oh dear...

But the voices that beckon me. They have some good ideas.

Great, actually.

---------------------

I walked along the ashen-silver path, waving a scythe in front of me as a gust of soot came toppling down over the grey skies. The temperature had to have been around 75 degrees Fahrenheit, and as I neared Fallarbor, I felt it rise to a sweltering heat. Ugh, and the mess of dead humans and pokemon didn't help either. Every now and then, I'd step on some large lump of soot, only to expect the gurgling rise of warm red blood rise up to my knees. It was annoying, really. Stupid, damned humans. They probably did deserve to die for being so weak-willed.

The trek over the hills was rather uneventful. If you'd picture a restless snowstorm on a hot, sunny day, minus the cold, then you've got a good idea. If not, then wake up. Slow-witted stupidity like that is what caused all of these humans to resolve in waste.

Judging by the sun, it was probably hitting the late afternoon as some dusty shacks came into view. The ponds were contaminated with ash and feces, the roads were simply covered in heaps of soot, and Fallarbor...well, just the same old Fallarbor. But there was a lack of humans. Not good. There should be humans. Anywhere, just popping out of a shack just to sink his or her teeth into me. Just somewhere. But...ugh...I need blood. I need to shed some blood.

So I came up to one of the shacks, knocking on the door as the voices in my head began to escalate in some crescendo.

No, I had told them. Not now.

But it was already too late. I had just hoped that whoever was in the shack came by quickly. I just felt something...surround me. But no one was there.

"Yes, I can walk." The Lopunny said as she stood up, she looked like she was having a bit of trouble, but she was managing. "I'm Lyra, by the way. You're Nina, right? And that was Anubis? It's nice to meet you. Or rather, one of you."

"Yaaaaa, once that guy sets his mind on something and starts moving, there's no stopping him, not even to formerly introduce himself." Nina stated. "Anyway, yes. I'm Nina, that was Anubis. Nice to meet you too and all that."

"I, um, was hoping to find some refuge in Mauville? This Luxio told me it was where a lot of pokemon were fighting against those awful walking corpses. I'm a healer, if that helps my case. Well, former-healer-in-training I guess. I know a lot, just not...everything." The Lopunny explained.

"Huh? I would think if he knew about this place he'd be trying to get here himself." Nina said, puzzled. "Anyway, you're in luck! Reala's the best damn healer in town. If there's something about being one you're all clueless about, she's the one to ask."

Nina took the Lopunny all the way to where she, Anubis, and Reala stay and knocked on the door. Soon afterwards the door was opened by Reala, who quickly said "Nina? Why aren't you with Anubis? And who is this Lopunny?"

"Long story short, she nearly drowned outside of town, we saved her, Anubis told me to take her to you while he looked for Roland, the end." Nina quickly explained.

"I see. Well come inside you two." Reala replied, she then turned to Lyra and said "If you've been in the water then I say you need help drying off quickly. I'm afraid I can't help you with that, but the heat from a Fire-Type Pokemon's flame should suffice." Reala then turned to Nina and asked "Nina, would you please help this one find someone willing to help her?"

"Alright, alright." Nina responded, "Just as long as we don't have to turn to 'her'"

"Now now, Nina." Reala said sternly "I've told you before. She may be odd to the rest of us, but if you look past that then you may see some good in her."

"You might think so, but....I dunno, something is really wrong with her." Nina stated, she then stepped out the door and turned to Lyra asking, "You coming or not?"

Cuckoo! Cuckoo! the clock went, thrusting the fake pidgy in and out of its door. It was enough to wake me up, as if that was hard. It would do this every evening, just in time for the opening of my shop, The Brew.

It was a real shame most Pokemon stayed away from it. They seemed rather turned away each time I kindly asked them if they were interested in improving their spiritual well-being. No potions, medicines, elixirs, or ethers. Not a single customer. What was it that truly turned them away?

Before leaving bed, I examined my room. I had repurposed a shop from the city into my own house and emporium. I had blocked off half of it with a makeshift fence made from large slabs of plywood and sheet metal. It worked quite well, and I’m proud to say I did it all by myself. It provided the privacy I needed for any projects I worked on. My supplies were not very organized, with various stains, spills, containers, and other equipment that I frequently used scattered around the room in rather messy fashions. It worked, and the only place that needed to be organized was the shop itself, not my room.

I slipped into my purple robe, tied on my matching-color headwrap, fastened my belt around my waist, slung on my canvas pouch around my shoulder, a pair of reading glasses with a left lens that was in pristine condition, and for the finishing touch, slipped my cigarette holder between my lips. The cigarette holder held an herb blend I made and rolled myself. It gave off smoke that varied between white and grey that smelled of a mint incense. I found that it had aided in concentrating my psychic prowess, as well as keeping me awake if I needed an extra boost during long shifts.

I walked out into my shop to start my shift. It was filled to the brim with various occult goods, to the point where they seemed that they would fall off the shelves if so much as a dust mite touched one object. The contents of the shelves included various jarred goods such as slugs, body parts and so on, as well as a number of other ingredients useful for potion brewers of any experience level. Display cases showed a wide variety of herbs and salts, and bookcases in one corner were chock-full of books, be it recipes for concocting elixirs of any kind.

However, I decided to instead take a walk around the city-sized mall. I rarely got business, and even then, they never bought anything. Perhaps a stroll through the various shops would aid in making me feel better.

There seemed to be a shop for everything. Accessories, food, bikes, move tutoring, medical aid, books, and even bikes! It was as if there was no limit to the amount of things one was able to buy here two decades ago. Most of the shops still worked in their old fashions, just owned by Pokemon instead of humans. I eventually found myself passing by an open area filled with tables, most likely filled with old restaurants of the past. They continued operation to this day
however, being run by the goats that might be serving something from the berry bushes in the back. They were like any other berry bushes, but the fruits they grew here were completely different. Perhaps someday I’ll make sure to ask what they’re like.

The air started to turn cold, as if it was the middle of winter inside. I shivered, continuing to browse the stores as my fur turned a ghastly blue. My breath became visible in the air, the puff becoming bigger each time I exhaled. Everyone acted as if they were not bothered by the major issue with the air current in here. There’s just no way they could ignore it…. Could they be planning this? Just to make me uncomfortable? Bother the one with the odd coloration? Make her feel out of place in the most well-established fortress for the living? They wouldn’t do that, would they?

My paws clenched and my teeth bit down on my lips so hard I tasted blood as I walked back to my place. They… Couldn’t attack me, right? This is just a weird coincidence. Right? When wiping the long stream of blood from my mouth, I noticed something truly frightening. Crystals started to grow on the back of my hand. The flesh they sprouted from felt numb, yet they gave off a sharp pain that spread from nerve to nerve as the crystals began ripping out of my robe. The robe started to fall apart, revealing more and more of my body to the public. But no one did a thing. They just walked by. No help, no fascination, no gawking. Nothing. These crystals were cold to the touch, undoubtedly make of ice. But how? I’m a Fire-Type!

I ran throughout the city, screaming my lungs out, hoping someone would help before whatever this was finished. I started to lose control of my legs as more ice sprouted from them. It wasn’t long before I finally tripped, twisting my ankle with the sound of glass breaking and a pain greater than any other I’ve ever felt. I put my hands out to lighten my fall, only for them to shatter like glass when they hit the floor. I cried out in pain, looking at my feet to realize my ankle had literally snapped off. My heart rate soared, but started slowing despite my attempts to suck in as much air as physically possible. My body had started to freeze over. It became the same ghastly blue my fur had become earlier as more ice sprouted from my now-exposed chest. I couldn’t breathe anymore. My sight faded to black. This is it. I was going to die here, without a single Pokemon knowing it happened despite being right in front of them. But just then, it all flashed white.

I found myself in an old janitor’s closet, still bleeding and almost naked in the corner. My robe. It was torn apart. But I was fine. A black feet, silver fur, and no blue. No ice. I still had my arms and my foot, but… if that was… Whatever it was, why was my robe torn?

Lyra giggled at Nina's description of Anubis the Lucario. She stopped giggling abruptly when the Gardevoir questioned why the Luxio hadn't come to Mauville himself.

"I assume he was on his way here, but the rotters got to him and I couldn't...he didn't make it." She pressed her nose into her wrist cuff. She hadn't lost many patients, not before in the hospital and not now after the collapse of human civilization, so every death still felt like a barb in her heart. Compouding her pain was the fact that she did not know anything about the cosmetic side of healing, so those she did save were often left with terrible scars.

"Anyway, you're in luck!" Nina went on, snapping Lyra out of her morbid train of thought. "Reala's the best damn healer in town. If there's something about being one you're all clueless about, she's the one to ask."

"That's good to know, thank you." So they already have a healer, she thought. The Gardevoir led her into the city. Lyra struggled a bit to keep up. Her damp fur was weighing her legs down, so she was forced to walk instead of hop, which threw her off. She scrubbed a paw through her fur again, with no effect other than dislodging a few drops of water. The Gardevoir stopped in front of one of the old human apartments and knocked, and a different Lucarion than the one that had helped her answered.

"Nina?" the Lucario said. "Why aren't you with Anubis? And who is this Lopunny?"

"Long story short, she nearly drowned outside of town, we saved her, Anubis told me to take her to you while he looked for Roland, the end."

"Um...yep!" Lyra added. "That's about it!"

"I see. Well come inside you two." The Lucario moved to allow them entrance, and Lyra hopped in. It was still quite a nice apartment, even in this time. They even had a bit of electricity, judging from the lights glowing faintly on the ceiling. Perhaps her idea of a hair dryer wasn't as far-fetched as she thought. "If you've been in the water then I say you need help drying off quickly. I'm afraid I can't help you with that, but the heat from a Fire-Type Pokemon's flame should suffice. Nina, would you please help this one find someone willing to help her?"

"Alright, alright. Just as long as we don't have to turn to 'her'." Her? Lyra wondered. Why are they referring to someone like that?

"Now now, Nina. I've told you before. She may be odd to the rest of us, but if you look past that then you may see some good in her."

"You might think so, but....I dunno, something is really wrong with her. You coming or not?"

"Ah, that's very kind of you," Lyra said, running her paw through her ear fur, "but...my fur is rather flammable, and I don't have any Rawst berries on me at the moment. I don't suppose you have a blow dryer or something?" She hastily added, "It's fine if you don't, I'll just be super duper careful.

"Also, I didn't get your name." She waved vaguely at the Lucario who was not Anubis. "And who is 'her'?"

Reala looked as if she remembered something for a brief second after hearing Lyra's response, "Oh, as a matter of fact we do have one! Forgive me Lyra, I often have one of the local Fire-Types produce a flame to dry off wet fur when accidents such as yours take place, rare though they may be. Their flames produce much more heat than a simple blow dryer so it drys faster you see. But if you have a preference." She then turned to Nina and asked, "Nina, could you get the blow dryer please?"

"Alright." Nina said in a disgruntled tone before heading into another room, when she came back she was holding a blow dryer, which she handed to Reala before plugging it into a nearby outlet on the wall.

"Thank you, Nina." Reala said as she accepted the blow dryer from Nina.

"Also, I didn't get your name." Lyra said to Reala. "And who is 'her'?"

"Here we go...." Nina said, rolling her eyes.

"Ah, I'm sorry for not introducing myself sooner. My name is Reala, and I'm a healer. Some call me the best one here, but I rather not rate myself over others. I simply do what I can to help." Reala then paused for a moment to think about Lyra's other question, "Well...Who Nina referred to as 'her' would have to be Eris. She's a Delphox that owns a rather peculiar shop here in Mauville. Actually, she's a rather unusual Pokemon herself. I've had her as a patient several times as a matter of fact. I never quite understood how she manages to get hurt as often as she does."

"She probably does it to herself during those psychotic episodes she so often has." Nina said out loud.

Ignoring Nina's last comment, Reala kneeled before Lyra and got the blow dryer ready before saying, "At any rate, I'm sure you want to dry off as soon as possible, don't you..." Reala trailed off for a moment before saying, "Oh, I'm afraid I didn't get your name either, Dear."

Roland the Gallade
Trained Faction/Urban Oriented
Mauville City Settlement: Central Courtyard
Affected RPers: N/A

It had always astounded Roland how sunny and cheerful the days of the apocalypse could be.

Standing here in the center of Mauville, with the bustle of Pokemon going about their daily activities in the open air of the former supercomplex, it was quite easy to forget that there was still a war going on outside the walls. There were still Pokemon to save, places to rebuild, connections to make. Yet he had to admit, the city as it was now was a sign of progress, and it was all happening within just the span of a few years since Apchagi the Sawk’s downfall and the formation of a cohesive Pokemon state. A few years to rebuild what had taken almost two decades to destroy. Now that was something worth living for.

A shadow passed over his head, and the Gallade looked up at the sleek shadow of his chief lookout: Kite the Noivern. One of the few Trained who had been secretly opposed to the old leader’s “survival of the fittest” system, the batlike dragon had had no problems switching sides once Roland and Rory had taken charge, and Roland has never regretted keeping him up in the watchtower since. He had an eagle eye, that one, and his loud voice could carry for miles, giving warning to not just those in the city, but those a good distance away from the settlement if there was an incoming horde. Other settlement folk fondly referred to him as the “Gargoyle”, due to his status as a reliable protector and by the way he perched on his post during his shift. Roland, in good humor as he was, decided to make it Kite’s callsign, and so now when he saw him circling, he called up in as loud a voice as he could muster, hoping Kite would pick it up in those radar-dish ears of his.

“Hey! Gargoyle! What’s our status up there?”

There was a pause, and then the Noivern’s flight pattern faltered a bit as the dragon oriented himself for a descent. Roland to ok a step back to give him wide berth, though he knew there was no need. Kite was a skilled flyer. There was a strong rush of air as the dragon flapped his wings a bit for stability, then he lands nimbly just a few feet from his settlement leader before giving Roland a quick salute and speaking.

“Sir, it’s approximately one PM in the afternoon and all is well. I was simply circling around the sentry posts to remind the guards to rotate their shifts. No trouble has been reported.”

The Gallade nods, giving Kite a relieved smile before he continues. “Well, I didn’t mean to pry you away from your job task, Kite. I do apologize. I do hope all continues to be well, and if you have no further news, then I will dismiss you back to your post.”

“No trouble has been reported, but I probably should let you know that a few of our own did come back with someone from out of Route 118.” Kite continued, leaning forward on his claws as Roland’s smile faded and turned to concern. “Don’t worry...she didn’t look dead. Just wet. And there weren’t any rotters chasing them, sir. I think it was probably just some loose Trained mon who tried to swim in those strong currents out in that inlet.”

“Did you see which of ours brought them in?”

“Yes, sir.” Kite replied. “It was that Nina kid and Anubis. I didn’t see what else happened after that, but you know that Nina is friends with a healer, so she might have taken the loose one to the healer.”

Roland nodded, trying to remember which apartment Reala, Nina, and Anubis lived in. The second floor “luxury suites” had housed quite a few thousand humans back in the day, and even now, the apartments were some of the best places to make an actual home out of for those who didn’t want to live in the same place they sold their goods in on the first floor. The catch was, it was almost impossible to find someone up there in that clutter, and while the apartments themselves had some power thanks to the Electric types in the New Mauville settlement, the hallway itself was dark ninety percent of the time. So, unless he had keen night vision like Lucario did (which he obviously didn’t) or knew the auras of the people inside (something he wish he could do, but when he had to keep track of thousands of other Pokemon, auras sort of blended together and faded away, leaving more room for him to remember names and species instead), trying to find them without help would just be a lot of him feeling and fumbling around. He’d have to get some help if he wanted to go up and see this newcomer.

“Well, thank you for the information, Kite.” Roland finally replied, patting the Noivern on the shoulder as he spread his wings out to prepare for takeoff. “Will that be all the news you have for me?”

“Yes sir, I have no other news to tell. I will return to my post and keep an eye on things. I will return at the next rotation to give you an update on our progress.” Kite says, his tail swishing in warning as Roland and a few other townsfolk startled and gave the Noivern plenty of room. No one ever knew how hard his Manifested wings would flap; there was still a dip in the ground from the crater they had made the first time he discovered the Pokecross had gone latent there. This time wasn’t so bad, though the shockwave from this one did knock over an Igglybuff who hadn’t gotten out of the way in time, making it cry and having its Wigglytuff mother quickly run to comfort it. Roland looks over and gives the mother a look as if asking for permission to come and help, though the look in her eyes quickly gave him his answer and he let her be. Former wild, probably, who still didn’t trust him even though he’d ousted the danger Apchagi had posed to the feral populace. That was just fine with him. Roland knew he couldn’t make everyone like him.

Well, he could, actually, being a Psychic type, but he chose not to. Good leadership is earned, not bribed.

“Now...where did Anubis say he was going to hole up with Nina…?”

He pondered this to himself as he turned toward the eastern gate of the city, heading out for the strip of stores that surrounded the central courtyard, hoping that he could either catch Anubis himself or someone who could help him get to him. He certainly wanted to make sure this strange new Pokemon was okay, as well as personally welcome her to this safe haven that he’d made for Pokemonkind.

"You do!?" Lyra said. The female Lucario asked Nina to go further into the apartment and fetch the blow dryer. Lyra clasped her paws together, grinning. It had been a while since she'd been able to properly groom her fur. She was not nearly as vain as some Lopunnys - not even close to the level of conceit of the contest-bred ones - but still. After the Gardevoir had returned with the blow dryer, the Lucario introduced herself as Reala.

"I'm a healer," she said. "Some call me the best one here, but I rather not rate myself over others. I simply do what I can to help."

Lyra nodded. "I guess at this point that's all we can do," she agreed.

The Lucario continued, addressing Lyra's other question: "Who Nina referred to as 'her' would have to be Eris. She's a Delphox that owns a rather peculiar shop here in Mauville." A Delphox? Lyra thought. A real Delphox!? She'd seen a few Fennekin pass through the hospital just before everything had gone bad, and they were adorable (if dangerous, since they couldn't control their fire that well), but never a Delphox.

"Actually, she's a rather unusual Pokemon herself," Reala said, fiddling with the hair dryer. "I've had her as a patient several times as a matter of fact. I never quite understood how she manages to get hurt as often as she does."

"She probably does it to herself during those psychotic episodes she so often has," the Gardevoir said, a hint of contempt worming its way into her words. Lyra wrinkled her nose in concern. She was an almost-completely trained medic, but her owner and Omelette had always handled the mental side of injury. She knew how to stop bleeding and set broken bones, but when it came to the mind...

"Oh, I'm afraid I didn't get your name either, Dear," Reala said. Lyra turned her attention back towards her with a smile.

"My name is Lyra," she said. "I'm also a healer. Um, healer-in-training. Nice to-" A noise from outside made her ears twitch, and she snapped her head to the side, brow furrowing in concentration. It was faint, but unmistakable: someone or something was screaming. It sounded like they were in serious pain, too. Mixed with the dominant screams were shouts and yells.

"Did you hear that?" Lyra asked. Without pausing for an answer, she ran straight across the apartment and onto a balcony overlooking a courtyard. Down below a few pokemon were milling about: none of them looked in distress. So where had that scream come from? Lyra vaulted the balcony railing in one fluid motion, intent on finding the source of those cries.

Mega Kick: The cream-colored fur around Lyra's feet and shins solidifies when subjected to sufficient velocity, rather like a non-Newtonian fluid. This means her kicks, already backed with tremendous leg power, are that much stronger. She's not quite sure how much power is needed to activate this, but she's got it down to a range.

The pavement cracked under the force of her landing. Lyra winced, daintily hopping away from the damaged floor, and looked around. Still no sign of whatever had screamed - except a distressed-looking Bayleef thundering out of the gate through which Lyra had entered the city. She half-jumped, half-jogged over to it, reaching out a paw to try and stop its stampeding.

"Are you okay?" she asked.

"Fine," it panted. "But that crazy Delphox nearly ran me over!"

"Which way was she going?"

"Uh...I think east?" Lyra ran past him, ignoring his cry of, "Wait, she's insane, she'll burn you alive!" and towards the east gate, nearly bowling over a Gallade on her way.

"Sorry!" she called over her shoulder. Once she was back inside the city - how curious, that it had been built like a ring, but she would have to think about it later - all she had to do was follow the trail of stunned pokemon to a tucked-away closet, bearing signs of having recently been forced open and slammed shut. Lyra put a hand over her chest for a moment to catch her breath. Then she knocked softly on the door.

"Hello?" she called, pressing an ear to the metal door. "Anyone in there?"

Nina the Gardevoir
Trained/Urban
Mauville City
Affected RPers: Lyra the Lopunny (Huntress)

"My name is Lyra," The Lopunny said. "I'm also a healer. Um, healer-in-training. Nice to-" She stopped talking and looked as though she had heard something. Nina had faintly heard this noise as well, which as far as she could tell were screams. However the twitch on the Lopunny's ears told her that Lyra was hearing it much more clearly than she was.

"Did you hear that?" Lyra asked. However before either Nina or Reala could give an answer she headed off towards the balcony and jumped off of it.

"H-Hey! Wait up!" Nina called out as she and Reala made their way to the balcony. They looked down from it to see Lyra talking to a bayleef, who went on to tell her that apparently a 'crazy Delphox' had nearly run him over.

"Oh greeeeeeat!" Nina sighed, holding a hand to her head in frustration.

Reala watches as Lyra speeds off to the East despite the Bayleef calling out, "Wait, she's insane, she'll burn you alive!" then turns to Nina telling her, "We better catch her before she gets herself into trouble. I'd like to make sure no one has gotten hurt as well."

"Alright..." Nina said in an annoyed tone before concentrating for a moment with both Reala and herself disappearing from the balcony soon after.

Anubis the Lucario
Trained/Terran
Mauville City
Affected RPers: Lyra the Lopunny (Huntress), Roland the Gallade (Ginger)

After leaving Nina to go search for Roland. It wasn't hard to pick up on where he was, as Anubis could pick out his aura amidst the many Pokemon living in the city. Now all he had to do was get to him and hope he wasn't too busy to talk to, as is sometimes the case. However, he had the fortune of having worked closely with Roland in the past, and he knows Anubis well enough to know that anything he has to report to him is important. Anubis also knows that Roland tends to welcome newcomers into the city personally, so there's that.

Soon after his search began however, Anubis noticed a familiar flying figure come down from the sky. He recognized it as Kite the Noivern, though almost everyone called him Gargoyle. Seeing him coming down made Anubis smile a bit, there was only one reason Kite would leave his post now of all times. it means he saw what happened and is reporting to Roland. This saves him the trouble of explaining, but he still had to find Roland. He'll be searching the apartments for Nina, Reala, and Lyra for a long time without Anubis there to help him find the one they're living in.

Guided by his Aura Tracking, Anubis made his way to Roland. As he was on the move he remembered how Roland became the leader here, having defeated the previous leader Apchagi. Anubis never complained about Roland taking over. In fact, if Anubis believed he was capable of overthrowing Apchagi he would've done it himself long ago as he strongly disliked Apchagi's survival of the fittest ideals, but just sparring with the Sawk told him that if he had fought him the way Roland did, he likely would've lost. In the end, after Apchagi's downfall Anubis was one of the first to welcome Roland as their new leader, and not a moment has gone by since then where Anubis has regretted doing so.

As he closed in on Roland, Anubis heard screaming, prompting him to look around wondering where it was coming from, that was until he noticed Roland nearby. "Roland!" He called out as he approached the Gallade. As he did so however he noticed a familiar figure of a Lopunny run by, almost running right into him. Anubis gave a surprised gasp as he quickly went to Roland's side asking "Roland, are you alright?", before looking in the direction the Lopunny headed and started saying, "That was-"

He was interrupted however by the familiar sound of Teleport coming from behind him, prompting him to turn around and see Nina and Reala nearby. "Reala, Nina! What happened?" He asked them.

Reala approached Anubis and Roland telling them, "Anubis, Roland! We all heard screaming from outside, after that Lyra jumped off the balcony to investigate what happened."

"Someone told her that some 'crazy Delphox' is running amok." Nina said frustratingly. "I swear Eris has her episodes at the worst times!"

Fallarbor Town ----> Lavaridge Town
Affected RPers: N/A

The door of the little Fallaborian shack fell down from its frame, crashing stupidly into the stone floor in front of me. Seeing as how there wasn't much use of maintaining stealth, I veered through the darkness, my scythes clearing the floating dust conjured by the fallen door. I allowed my eyes to adjust to the darkness before proceeding any further and observed the area around me.

An unremarkable piece, this was. Nothing more than a make-do human shelter with a dusty table sitting to one side, some fallen chairs, the stench of sewer water (which is surprisingly similar to Grimer feces), piles of ash from where a little cleft in the roof emerged, and...

I take a whiff of the dry air. The nasty smell of liquid iron mixed with sweat and other trashy odors filled the air. But why? Northern Hoenn was already inhospitable to begin with, according to a passerby Seviper who claimed to just make his way from Meteor Falls that time. So why does this place smell faintly...alive?

Just as the thought hit me, a shuffle within a pile of inordinate, grimy bed sheets at one side of the room caught my attention. I poised myself for whatever would come, approaching whatever was messing around in the human trash. With one little emergence from an open cover, there it was.

A sick head of a human child (as I recall the description of an actual human child's face according to some of the high-end trained pokemon) came bursting out of the sheets with empty sockets and a split tongue, revealing a disgusting nest of maggots that could have developed within its nasal cavity, judging by the sheer amounts of disgruntled maggots moving from one end of its nose right through the sloppy gash of the zombie's tongue. From the corner of my eye, I saw the nasty thing's hand rise and fall right back on me just as quickly, making nothing less than a small dent in my armor. The silly child alternated between strikes with its arms, bones popping wildly as it threw punches at abnormal angles. At least the specimen was premature, so hacking right through its jugular should finish the job.

Baring this in mind, I deftly slashed at the little child's neck, a slow and moist pause mid-slash before the head flew off into the side of the room. Falling lifelessly into the floor, the soon-to-be shadow of a corpse fidgeted before ceasing to "breathe".

Worthless degenerate terminated.

"U-um..." a small, shrill little voice chirped from behind me. My first instinct was to cut whatever it was down to pieces, which had happened. I executed a short reversal slash that seem to split the table behind me halfway through its center. From that, a flying creature emerged from the dust, whizzing away frantically in all directions.

"Oh dear, oh dear, please help me! This is so bad! Please!" it kept uttering.

"You there," I spoke. My simple utterance was enough to make the thing shut up. Alert to sounds? Check.

The thing turned around, more noticeably a Vibrava, and consulted me restlessly. "You look like you could help me, with those super sharp amazing knife hands of yours! Listen, I wondered a little too far off from the settlement around Mt. Chimney and those rotters have been ambushing me for miles!"

Settlement around Mt. Chimney? Oh, that's right. I've heard from some sources in the west that there would be a large settlement around here. But one thing's amiss here: Where are the civilian pokemon?

"That's a grand tale," I decided with such a reply "but where are the rest of the pokemon? You did say that there was a settlement here."

"Oh, oh!" the Vibrava fluttered around anxiously. "There is! They're just in hiding, is all. Ya see, whenever a horde of rotters comes storming in, all of the families and normal people hide around the trees in Route 113. Only when they either pass or Mt. Chimney's warriors kill them can they reveal themselves."

"I see. So the outsiders of Mt. Chimney would normally do this." I observed.

"I...I guess so!" the Vibrava stuttered.

"My name is Viviette, by the way" the Vibrava greeted. "Nice to meet you! And thanks for rescuing me!"

I didn't reply. Greetings were a waste of time. There would be a good chance that this senseless little 'mon could step directly into the face of danger and die in one fell swoop.

All traces and possibilities of further conversation were eliminated as we made our way through the inhospitable ash piles of Route 113, meeting settlers of the Mt. Chimney settlement along the way as they slowly crept out from their hiding spots. Some waved, others fastened their pace when they saw us. Viviette tried starting up a conversation some time after we had traversed a bend in the route, going southward towards the Fiery Path. There, some hefty Haxorus and Gurdurr were gathering timber, presumably for the settlement. Those that saw us on that section of the Mt. Chimney community were more adamant in their execution of greeting, all the while shooting us suspicious glares. Viviette didn't seem to mind, however. I'd give her a point for being bravely stupid.

Walking through the Fiery Path was no walk in the park. The filthy stench of blood, sweat, body oils, and burnt skin filled the air. Strangely enough, there were no signs of rotters. Just more muscular pokemon with bad attitudes, of course. I guess that these were the so-called "warrior" pokemon that Viviette mentioned back in Fallarbor. The crowd of these types of pokemon were noticeably growing larger in size, their population growing rather prominent as I--I mean, we-- went further down Fiery Path. Thanks to the random holes made by Diglett and Dugtrio, I crawled through the entirety of the cave until I made it back to the surface. I observed my surroundings.

A tented community surrounding a large column of human-esque homes. Pokemon everywhere, talking, chattering, negotiating, and commanding. Goodness, it was an annoying sight.

"Well," Viviette chimed in, "Welcome to Lavaridge town!"

Route 118 --> Mauville
Absolutely drenched from the waist down (4/???)
Affected RPers: Eris the Delphox (Meeker)
((OOC Note: This post is the product of me and Meeker collaborating over PM, hence the bunnying. @Meeker, if there's anything you want me to edit here, let me know.))

Lyra pressed her ear more firmly against the door. She couldn't hear anything except very faint breathing. The Delphox must've been exhausted, if the other pokemon she'd spoken to were correct and it had been sprinting down the hall. And if this was the Delphox Reala spoke of, she was likely unstable. Lyra would have to be very careful.

She tried again: "I'm Lyra," she said, as gently as she could manage. "I want to help, but I can't unless you talk to me. Are you hurt?"

"I-I don't even know..." a voice inside the closet said, sobbing.

Lyra curled her good left paw into a fist, then loosened it again. She shifted so she was no longer crouching by the door, instead leaning with her back against it, head turned to the side and legs curled up to her chest. Most of the pokemon had emptied out of this part of the city, and the few that were left seemed too shocked to notice her.

“I guess you had a bad day, huh,” she said. “The pokemon you passed in the hallways said you looked really upset. But that’s okay. Everyone’s got bad days.” She toyed with the fur on her wrist. Omelet would have been so much better at this; he had much more experience than her, and always knew what to say.

The Lopunny stopped herself from spiralling dangerously into self-pity and refocused. “What do you mean, you don’t know if you’re hurt?” she asked. “I saw little drops of blood on my way here. Are you still bleeding?”

She heard the Delphox sigh, then say, “I think so...yeah.”

“Well, then, don’t you think you should come out?” Lyra replied. “So I...I mean, so Reala can take a look at you. I just got here, I’m sure they wouldn’t let me look at someone until I’ve been...uh, what’s the word? Assessed?” She had no idea how things worked around here. The Luxio (he had a name, but it was escaping her at the moment) had been brief in his description of the Mauville settlement.

“Look, just...please come out? It’s not good to stay in a dark closet all alone for a long time. And if there’s something stopping you, can you tell me what it is? Maybe I can help. Or I can find someone who can help. Come to think of it, I’m surprised no one’s followed me.” She giggled. “I kind of jumped off the balcony and damaged the concrete a little bit by accident. Oopsies”

"I'm not coming out!" the Delphox yelled. "My robe is torn to bits! I'm effectively naked, okay? If you care so much come in! It's not locked..."

Lyra winced. That was certainly an explanation. Although, she'd never heard of a fur-covered pokemon considering themselves "naked" without clothes. But, then again, there was a first time for everything. She twirled a bit of her leg fur around her fingers and sighed. She really wanted to point out that a.) the Delphox's fur probably covered up all the important bits and b.) it wasn't like a lot of pokemon cared nowadays, what with the apocalypse going on. But she didn't.

Instead, she said, "If you tore up your robe, I’m pretty sure Reala or Nina would probably know where to find a blanket, at least, if not a replacement...” She craned her head around, looking for any sign of a Lucario or a Gardevoir. “Where are they?”

Lyra felt the door shift behind her and automatically scooted forward. She twisted her neck over her shoulder. The Delphox had opened the door a small fraction of the way, and the Lopunny could see one reddish eye staring at her from silver fur. "If you could do that," the Delphox said, her voice a bit shaky, "That would be very nice..."

Lyra grinned. "No problem," she said. "Stay right here. I'll be back." She jumped up, nearly losing her balance because of her still-wet fur, and began walking back the way she'd came. If Nina and Reala weren't going to follow her, then she would just have to find them herself.

Lone Wolf
Brooke the Cofagrigus
Wild/Urban
Mauville City Settlement: Near the eastern gate.
RPers Affected: N/A

The ghost watched the wall.

Brooke had been working for the better part of three days and nights. It was what she did best; as a ghost Pokemon, eating and sleeping were no longer necessary for her. Of course, she still ate, although she had found out thanks to the screaming of a trained Mawile that those odd little golden orbs that the humans had left lying around were actually valuable in terms of...something. To her, they were just food. Delicious, crunchy metallic food. But those trained were so strange to her. What value could those orbs possibly have to one who wasn't a Cofagrigus, especially a human?

The ghost watched the wall.

She didn't usually hear the whispers behind her back, and even when she did, she didn't understand what they meant. Maybe they thought her too scary to talk to? It didn't matter to her. She never really wanted to talk to anyone anyway. It was a waste of time to her when she could be working. With her drab gray coffin that had been viciously mutilated by her Manifest and dented by the rotters, she blended into the scenery quite fine. Most didn't even see her at night unless she moved.

Brooke stared at the sky. She wasn't working now, as she was trying to remember whatever had come to her mind. Her memories came in fragments. Names? Forgotten seconds after she heard them. Time? It meant nothing to a ghost like her. Places? She was already home, so why would she need to remember another place? But her past...now that was something dearly important to her.

Occasionally, she would remember something when she saw an item. At a house north of the desert, she had found white powder. It called to mind something both longing and terrifying. Something...human. She knew that she was supposed to sniff it, and she did...

The memory began to fade. She clung to it as hard as she could, but it vanished like smoke between her fingers. The Cofagrigus silently wept. It wasn't fair! Even if it was a terrible memory, all she wanted was to remember it, just once. Just once, and she'd never ask again...

"Hey, if it isn't the mute."

She turned around to see a large Sudowoodo glancing at her with indifferent black eyes. She knew that he was a wild, but nothing else. His name might've started with an "s." What was it? Seymour? Simon? Scyon?

"Hey, Gray One, I'm talking to you. Can you speak?"

She felt the words come out before she knew it. "Yes...um...can speak." She blushed in embarrassment, but the Sudowoodo smiled.

"I knew you had it in you, sweetie."

"Name not Sweetie. My name...uh...Brooke! Your name...er...Semen?"

He frowned. "Semyon. You will do well to remember that. Don't ever call me what you just called me again. You understand?"

"Yes...um...won't do it...um...again...uh...Simon." The Cofagrigus looked down.

He sighed. "Well, I guess it'll have to do for now. Now, come with me. We have a lot to discuss."

"But...have to, er, wok. No! Worth...work! Yes, work!"

Semyon smiled coldly. "I wasn't asking for your permission. Come with me."

Brooke felt her mind begin to fade, as she nodded and extended her arm. "Yes...I...um...come with you."

"Good girl," Semyon said as if speaking to a child. He took her arm with his branch, and led the Cofagrigus over to one of the abandoned hotels.

Luno the Growlithe

Route 111, crossroads with Route 112
Affected RPers: N/A

Luno scanned the area around him, looking for any rotters or other undesirable things. Nothing seemed to be around in the small valley he stopped in nor above him on the cliffs. No, no one's here. I'm safe for now. Satisfied with his short search, and exhausted from his trip down the volcano, he moved out of the valley and laid down in the grass near the crossroads, taking a break from his walking.

He then looked around again, this time looking for anything of note, not just threats, but still he could find nothing. No food, no Pokémon he recognized, and no items of any sort. He let out a loud sigh of disappointment. So yet another trip for no purpose. Great. Not like I have anything else to do. Where to head next, though?

Sand floated through from the desert to the north, blown about by a large gust of wind. Luno barely even thought about it as it hit into his hide, dirtying his fur and making him blink as it moved past his face. He considered moving briefly, but decided against it as he had found a spot in the sun with soft enough grass, even if the sand was irritating. He had dealt with worse spots to rest before, and he felt like he would again soon.

The breeze rushed ahead and rustled through the few trees that were nearby, shaking them and making more noise than anything else around him. The silence was strange after having just been in one of the settlements, but it was refreshing to a certain degree.

While he laid there, a few Pokémon passed by him, none seeming interested in him, and he returned their silence. He hadn’t spoken to anyone since he left Mt. Chimney, but he didn’t let it bother him.

The sun began to move towards the western half of the sky. I should probably get moving... Luno thought to himself, trying and failing to get himself moving again. Maybe a few more minutes of rest, though. It’s been a while since I last stopped. So he laid there, waiting for a small while more.

But I need to get going. Soon.
