This is the actual RP thread. Sign ups are here. Sign ups do not close even after the RP begins.

POSTING INFORMATION

This RP will be using post headers, which serve to help let other RPers know who is interacting with whom and at what time, as well as keep track of character effects that last more than one post. I believe in one rule about post headers, and that rule is K.I.S.S (Keep It Simple, Stupid*)

* no offense intended

Therefore, this is all I expect of a proper heading to an RP post:

Character Name and Species
Faction and Orientation
Location
(Optional line for any ill or beneficial effects your character may be suffering, and how long this affect has lasted for)
RPers Affected (Both character name and RPer name)

Thus, here is what it would look like in the RP:

Thibault the Aromatisse
Trained Faction/Urban Oriented
Ruins of the Mauville City Gym
(Optional Ill/Beneficial Effect: Post 1/3)
Affected Characters: Esme the Aromatisse (GingerDixie)

USING MANIFEST ABILITIES

As is stated in the premise below, Manifest abilities cannot be controlled with utmost precision. However, they can be used, and when the time comes that you wish to use an ability in the RP, I ask that you please quote it from your sign-up sheet and include it in your post below, like so:

They were vermin, the lot of them. Nothing but beggars and thieves who did nothing but take and give nothing back in return.

Thibault continued this mantra as he continued to fire Moonblast after Moonblast at the wild Pokemon horde who had launched the raid against the Gym, his mate standing bravely by his side and aiding his efforts with her own powers. They'd been at it since about 5 o'clock this morning, when the Loudred guard who went by the name of Decibel had first raised the alarm, warning the small pocket of trained Pokemon that trouble was approaching. At first, he'd thought it was rotters. And then, he was hit with an Aqua Jet. And all hell broke loose from there.

Whoever was left standing was doing a good job of keeping the ferals back, but just as Thibault started to get complacent, a scruffy-looking Raichu darted beneath the bolts and balls of energy flying towards his comrades and having the gall to head straight for Esme. His disposition was calm, collected even, but just as he raised a filthy paw to place it on his mate's face a fiery red flare of anger rose sharply in Thibault's chest. Without thinking of it, his claws began to tingle, and the griffon takes several long, slow steps towards the offending ruffian just as a white glow began to emit from his fingertips.

Mystic Claw: This is an enhanced swiping attack, activated in extreme times of stress such as fear, anxiety, or anger. Thibault's claws are enveloped in a white glow that lasts only until contact is made, and his claws harden and hone automatically to the tempering of a meat hook, automatically slicing easily through soft tissue and gouging toughened skin or armor with ease.

NPC Effect - This attack is always deadly to an NPC, and will cause the foe to bleed out either very slowly or very quickly, depending on where the swipe lands.

PC Effect - This attack is powerful enough to injure, but not kill, a player character, and those with a shallow Manifest of skin are especially more likely to recover quickly. However, while the wound will not kill it may scar, and depending on the area struck the character will or will not be incapped, yet still aware of their surroundings to react.

The Raichu turned just in time for Thibault to sink his claws into the electric mouse's neck, his beak bared as he tore the feral's throat out with an almost supernatural strength. As the Raichu gurgled out his surprise Thibault yanked upwards on his trachea while simultaneously kicking him away from Esme, tearing the cartilage and leaving the male with a fistful of blood and viscera, his own red eyes as wide and glassy as the dying rodent before him. Behind him, his mate let out a startled cry, and it seemed as though Pokemon on both sides had stopped attacking in shock at the gruesome scene before them.

And so it stayed for only a few seconds...but to Thibault, those few seconds seemed like an eternity. Then some female on the wild side screamed and the leader of the raid ordered a retreat, leaving Thibault, Esme, and the remainder of the Gym settlement in stunned silence before the Aromatisse simply dropped the dripping mass in his hand onto the floor, where it landed with wet, anticlimactic "smack".

They were vermin and thieves. Beggars who did nothing but take and gave nothing back in return.

But then again...with this sort of power...what did that make Thibault?

Story:

[SPOIL]What started out as a breakthrough in medical technology ended up becoming the end of the world as we know it.
Virion PK-RS 0-089, also known as Pokerus 89, was a strain of Pokerus that had the unique characteristic of being transmissible to humans who worked closely with Poison-type Pokemon, particularly urban species such as Grimer and Muk. It was thought that due to the abilities of the Pokerus particle (a particle that exhibited traits that closely resemble the replication and latency patterns of a retrovirus), the virion had adapted to pass from human to Pokemon due to the closeness of their living spaces, and as such, this particle was a common cause for many mild, flu-like symptoms among the populaces of the world’s largest cities: Viridian, Goldenrod, Mauville, Pastoria, Castelia, and Lumiose.

Due to its virulence among the human population, Pokerus 89 was isolated and experimented in a lab in Mauville City, Hoenn, with the goal to find a vaccine that would prevent the interspecial spread of the organism and thus eliminate the odds of contracting it among trainers who specialized in Poison-types. However, during the tests, something changed. Call it a breach in protocol, or call it plain, stupid curiosity...but the actions of one scientist who knew the virion’s beneficial effects on Pokemon devised and tested a hypothesis to see if the mild annoyance that Pokerus 89 had upon humans could in fact be written out in favor of more beneficial effects: in layman’s terms, he wanted to create an organism that attached and augmented human abilities in the same way that it did Pokemon’s, thus creating a strain of a literal “super-hero” virus. This scientist had gotten a hold of inactive particles that were soon to be infused in an experimental vaccine mixture, introduced a gene that would both block the particle’s ill effects in human cells and allow for full human infection, and then introduced the newly mutated viral vectors into a laboratory sample of what he documented as “willing subjects”, and waited to see what his concotion would create.

The results: he had made a gross miscalculation.

By the time the Mauville research facility had known what one of their own had done, said scientist and ninety percent of the original test group was dead, and the virus was on its way to a slow burn around the Pokemon world. One foreign gene had mutated the virion into something unseen by scientific communities before: it retained its ability to infect both humans and Pokemon, but the consequences of infection in both hosts had become something so much deadlier. In humans, it caused a systemic infection of malignant and rotting tumors, liquefied whole muscle groups and finally drove their victims mad until their death, while in Pokemon it caused the same flu-like symptoms as it had in humans...only for it to worsen several days later and kill half the Pokemon it infected.

For five years what was left of humanity raced to find a cure, but in the end, the ever-changing, retroviral nature of what had become known as PXH-334, or the Pokecross virus, had completely wiped out humanity and eliminated half of the Pokemon population across the known world. Cities and general society crumbled as humans died by the droves, and whichever of their Pokemon survived their own infections were soon tossed into a growing wasteland to fend for themselves, spreading Pokecross into the wilds. Eventually...there was nothing left of the six thriving regions but burning husks of what had once been, and the chilling wraiths of Pokemon long forgotten were left to pick about the scraps, fighthing for survival over what little remained of the land.

But that was far from the end.

Among the Pokemon that remained, chances to pull together and make what they could of the devastated human world never came to fruition as Pokemon realized that their walks of life before the infection had prepared them in different ways. Trained Pokemon, without the guidance of their human partners yet still far more powerful than their wild counterparts, easily overwhelmed untrained wild populations and became the bane of their existence, easily taking in the best resources and safest sanctuaries from their rivals and the elements and making up the majority of the survivor populations located in city ruins regardless of where they would naturally reside. However, while trained Pokemon had power and high ground, wild Pokemon had numbers, and with the majority of them being confined to woodlands and other wild areas regardless of their natural habitats, close quarters also led to rampant breeding, especially among species that already reproduced quickly. Eventually, a standstill was reached and wars fought over the remains of human civilization ceased, while tensions among the survivors continued to run high.

After the human populace was destroyed the remaining Pokemon soon bore witness to two other unexplained side-effects of the virion: true to its Pokerus origins, PXH-334 did indeed have its beneficial effects on its hosts: in Pokemon, the survivors found themselves with augmented abilities that tied in closely to the virion's point of infection, which became referred to as "manifests". Survivors gained abilities such as outward resilience to substances that would otherwise burn, poison, or maim them, sharp increases in any of their 5 (or 6 in the case of some types) senses, or increased mental or cognitive abilities that granted them powers unheard of, taking their normal capabilities into account. All Pokemon survivors possess these Manifests, and once they were discovered, they changed the way that Pokemon fought forever. Knockout battles became bloodbaths, and the powder keg was close to igniting again...that is, until it was discovered what PXH-334 did to humans.

As if on cue, hordes of superpowered zombies far more dangerous than your typical undead began to plague the budding settlements of Pokemon who remained, creating a new enemy far more powerful than even trained Pokemon could not surmount. It seemed as though the scientist's failed experiment from long ago had indeed been a latent success...but now, these heavily modified, super-human bodies had become nearly unstoppable killing machines. They felt no pain, they stopped at nothing, and they are increasing in number, spreading throughout the Pokemon settlements that remain...starting with Mauville City, the ground zero of the Pokemon world. [/SPOIL]

Setting:

[SPOIL]Though PXH-334 has been widespread throughout the Pokemon world, this RP will focus on the region of Hoenn, particularly Mauville City and the area around it, where the war between Pokemon is the most severe and what is considered the epicenter of the post-infection world. Of course, any Pokemon taking up residence in the remains of the city is most likely to be trained, and a Pokemon who is oriented for urban environments will be the most skillfull in foraging and navigating the city streets where they live. Keep in mind, however, that the population density of a city is low, with about 1 Pokemon per city block as opposed to the wilderness's 5 in a land area of comparable size. Trained Pokemon may also live together in small packs due to many still being most comfortable in a "team" setting, but this is not a hard, fast rule as there are also many of the formerly trained that prefer to go at it alone, believing themselves powerful enough to take on both the hordes of wild Pokemon who risk the cities for resources that are being made scarce from overpopulation and the hordes of zombies that are beginning to crop up from the rubble of the human settlements.
[/SPOIL]

Faction/Orientation Information:

[SPOIL]Factions:

Trained

These Pokemon were part of a Pokemon trainer's team before PXH-334 started its course of destruction, and as such are far more powerful and have access and knowledge to use a variety of man-made devices that they may or may not find around the city. However, keep in mind that while they may know how to use certain devices such as Potions or Status Heals, they do not possess the knowledge to operate vehicles or elevators, as many Pokemon were often in their Pokeballs when humans performed these duties. They are also, barring whatever Manifests they may have, more powerful than a wild Pokemon, meaning more powerful moves and generally being physically stronger in general, due to the many vitamins and extensive training a typical Pokemon trainer does with their Pokemon.

Due to their training these Pokemon also hold the idea that they are a "civilized" group, and as such, try to recreate human customs and courtesies when meeting in groups amongst each other; in contrast, wild populations in their eyes, are uneducated, uncivilized, and there is little hope for them to become anything but. Their lacking power levels only further prove to the trained faction that they should be considered separate and superior to the wild Pokemon, and once the Pokecross zombies began to appear, their picking off of the abundant wild populace is considered a form of natural selection in the trained faction's eyes.

Wild

These Pokemon were born and raised in their wild, natural environments, whether it be in an urban setting or the wilderness. In this case, however, most wild Pokemon regardless of their natural origin (or orientation as it will be called below) have now been forced to live in the outskirts and wilds around formerly populated areas due to their being systemically driven out by the trained populace, and are forced to make do with whatever they're given to make out a living. Unlike the trained Pokemon, wild Pokemon cannot use man-made items and must depend on natural plants such as medicinal herbs and Berries...the upside to this, however, is that many of them are very good at identifying the differences between these plants, and can utilize them in much the same way trained mons can use Potions.

Wild Pokemon are much less organized than trained ones, but that simply means that their numbers at any given moment cannot be predicted. Given the high population density of the wilds post-infection, wild Pokemon are never alone, even if they prefer to be. Their attitudes are Machiavellian in nature, but if a common enemy is spotted, chances are they will all form a temporary bond and pull together (especially if it's a trained Pokemon as they are all aware of how much more powerful those Pokemon are) until said enemy is defeated; their bonds will then dissipate and the pack will go their separate ways. Wild Pokemon are also known as notorious hoarders, and any items they can get from cities (whether they actually know how to use them or not) will be hidden away in hard-to-reach areas and heavily guarded until a use for them is found.

Orientations

Urban

If a Pokemon is urban-oriented, this Pokemon's natural environment (i.e. their Pokedex-stated location) is in man-made structures and settlements, whether it be ancient or modern. Urban Pokemon are incredibly adept at making their ways through city streets, and many of them are even active rebuilders, making what repairs they can to buildings crumbling from neglect if only to make the Pokemon who now occupy them safer. They will recognize Pokemon Centers and Marts, prime places for scavenging coveted necessities, as well as know how to pick their way into houses to hunt for food. However, these Pokemon do not do well in natural environments, tend to be less aware of their surroundings, and tend to be the worst at differentiating between edible and poisonous flora, often finding more comfort in the use of man-made products despite their increasing rarity.

Terran

If a Pokemon is terran-oriented, this Pokemon's natural environment is in natural biomes, such as forests, deserts, mountains, caves, or tundra. Like urbans, terran-oriented Pokemon know the wilds like the backs of their hands, are always ready to run or fight at the first sign of threat, and are generally the most adaptable of the two orientations, provided one does not leave the wilderness. They have no troubles making food and medicines out of natural plants...but sticking a terran in any city environment is sure to confound them, as they will immediately become lost at the absence of many familiar smells and cramped over the proximity of buildings. Terrans are often singled out fairly readily by both those familiar around the city and zombies, making them easy targets when exposed should they be unable to get to a suitable shelter in time. [/SPOIL]

Manifests:

[SPOIL]Pokemon who survived the initial Pokecross infection have developed "manifests", or augmented abilities, that passively enhance their powers for a limited amount of time as well as grant them three additional powers that are exclusive to both the type of manifest that they have inherited and the type of Pokemon they are. Currently, there are three recognized categories that a Manifest can fall into, which will be briefly explained below.

Keep in mind that Manifests are still poorly understood by the Pokemon that possess them and are thus rather hard to control, making their use limited and sporadic. That being said, I am trusting you all to not abuse the powers I am otherwise giving you full creative freedom over...do NOT ruin that trust or I will not hesitate to remove you from the RP.

Shallow Manifest: A Pokemon with a shallow Manifest stores the latent PXH-334 virion in their cutaneous tissue, meaning that the sources of their Manifest powers and ability can come their skin, hooves, horns, fur, mane, paws, etc. An example of a Shallow Manifest ability would be toughened and super-protective skin, supernatural speed, a horn or set of horns (depending on how many the manifested had before their infection) that can be protruded and retracted at will, etc. Powers relating to this manifest must relate to the part of the body that is manifested, an example being able to exude a protective aura or dispel a harmful explosion from manifested skin.

Mesoteric Manifest: A Pokemon with a mesoteric Manifest stores the latent PXH-334 virion in their musculoskeletal system. Signs of this type of manifest include incredibly quick reaction times, supernatural strength, bones that remain unbroken even under ungodly amounts of pressure, and supernatural endurance, and powers that relate to it can range from attacks guaranteed to shatter natural or devised barriers or shatter the bones of any Pokemon who does not also possess a mesoteric manifest.

Deep Manifest: A Pokemon who posesses a deep Manifest stores the latent PXH-334 virion in their brains and, consequentially, their minds. These Pokemon have become clairvoyants, mind or aura readers, and empaths, with Pokemon who already possessed these abilities gaining a sharp increase in their skill in using them. Powers that relate to these manifests can range from psychic attacks on another Pokemon's mind or making another's brain literally explode from sheer mental power alone, making this one of the deadliest Manifests currently known. Unfortunately, not many Pokemon possess this Manifest as Pokecross was known to have a high mortality rate once the brain was reached; not to mention it didn't seem as though the virion cared much for neural tissue. Affected RPer(s): IDK

The door slammed open as Charlie and Rodney rushed through, Anthony sending a few more Dragon Pulses out before following in after them. Charlie slammed the door, and motioned for Rodney to barricade it. Rodney simply positioned himself in front of the door, his weight easily being more than enough to prevent the door from being opened easily.

"What in Arceus' name was that?" Charlie hissed, keeping her voice low, wary that whatever it was that had attacked them might hear.

"Well, they certainly looked human." Anto replied. "But they acted in a very primal manner, as if they were driven by little more than hunger. It'd be-"

"Anto, perhaps we should avoid speculation for now. We're safe and its best that we take inventory of what we have, and what is at our disposal in this house." Tony thought to Anto, having already started to take in their surroundings. The three (four?) had entered the house via the back door, and the kitchen was nearby.

"K, bro, we made several powerful shots of Dragon Pulse at those human-things before we got in, so I'm doubting we're "safe". Secondly, there could be more of them in here that we haven't encountered yet. Third, please don't interrupt me when I'm speaking. I get that this telepathy **** is convenient, but you still have to observe conversational mannerisms...I'd think you'd know that Mr. Charisma." Anto replied in irritation.

"You...you guys okay?" Charlie asked, slightly confused as to the sudden silence from the twins.

"Yeah, its nothing. Where was I? Ah right, human-things. Yeah, it'd be likely that they're the result of whatever killed our trainer, possibly it required the human to have been dead for a period of time before it could do this. I dunno, some sort of advanced science crap that the humans, or some other species of Pokémon would be better versed in. Speculation is what it is..." Anto said, doing his best to shrug (kind of difficult for him though).

"Anyways, we should make a better barricade for the door so that Rod can help us ensure that the house is not occupied by anyone or anything else. Afterwards we need to take inventory, and see if there's anything here we can use." Tony stated, pulling his head towards the kitchen to encourage Anto to move.

"H-hey. I'm in charge here, I'll say what we do next." Charlie said with a huff, clearly displeased with Tony's take-charge attitude. Tony turned his head back to Charlie and replied dryly.

"Unless you have a better idea, this is what we should be doing."

"Tony, unless you're trying to provoke her, I think it'd be best to watch your tone with her...man, you really are off your game right now, aren't you?" Anto said mentally, somewhat baffled by his brother's seeming carelessness. Charlie had replied with another huff, she knew it was the best idea, but she hated that Tony had told her what to do. Begrudgingly, she helped move several chairs and a table to barricade the door, motioning for Rodney to move away from it.

"I hope this holds..." She mumbled as they gathered in the kitchen. "Alright, Rodney, search the main floor for any signs of life or otherwise, Anthony, you have the basement, I'll take the second floor. Rodney, if you find anything, just...stomp, we should hear it. Anthony, use your telepathy if you do. I guess I'll just shout...because I have no better method..." The others nodded and headed to search their respective floors. Charlie headed up the stairs, thankful that none of the humans' buildings had fallen into disrepair yet. A few minutes later Charlie returned to the main floor, having found no threats on the second floor, and brought several useful looking items with her. Rodney had returned to the kitchen, and was chewing on a frying pan he had found in a cupboard.

"Charlie, you might want to come down here..." Charlie heard in her head, and realized that it must have been one of the twins. "However, leave Rodney to his pan, he's been needing a good metal-based meal in a bit..." Charlie headed down the stairs to the basement, and found Anthony standing over a pair of human corpses. Neither of them showed any signs of movement, and Tony turned to face her.

"They're dead. We don't know how long, but chances are, they'll become what we encountered outside. We wanted you to...remove their heads with Dragon Claw. We understand that it's an unpleasant thing, but we can't risk more rising to attack us, nor can we risk the others outside hearing our Dragon Pulse." Tony said solemnly, an expression of apology clearly showing. Charlie nodded, and her claws became engulfed in draconic energy. With a pair of quick swipes, the heads were severed, releasing the stench of death as the rolled across the floor.

Kist "Ki" the Eevee
Wild/Urban
Woods outside Mauville City
Affected R.Pers: None

Kist darted through the trees, her weighted ear bouncing up and down uncomfortably and making it impossible to hear. She tripped over a loose log, twisting a paw painfully. The egg bounced against her neck, and like every other time she had tripped, she was afraid that it might fall out and crack.

Why was she even out here? The thing behind her... well, she didn't think it would want to sit down and talk out its problems over a cup of tea and crepes. She flexed her paw to get the last of the pain out. She looked behind her, worried. She saw a flash of silver followed by a splatter of red stuff. Blood. What the crap would that thing be killing out there? She pushed herself up. The area around her was unfamiliar. The thing screeched. Kist plunged deeper into the forest. How could it be a pokemon? No pokemon from the city in their right mind would go into these woods. She doubted she was in her right mind, herself. She looked desperately around, trying to find a branch low enough to climb onto without hurting the egg.

There was a pine branch close by. It would be pulling it, but she needed to take the chance. Her claws latched onto the branch, and she flipped herself onto the branch and began climbing higher into the tree. She looked down to see a Skarmory, its feathers thick with blood. Kist winced at the poor animal's wounds, but realized that she had doomed herself by climbing the tree.

The Skarmory spotted her, and immediately flew up to catch her. She closed her eyes, knowing that it was amazing that she had lasted so long after the "end". She waited for the parting blow to come. Suddenly, the tree shook violently. Kist's claws instinctively dug into the bark, anchoring her. She didn't dare open her eyes until the shaking stopped. After it did, She was looking down through torn branches at the twitching body of the Skarmory that had caused her so much grief. Tentatively, Kist worked her way down the ruined branches to the limp silver body. Its eyes were still open and wide with shock. With two swipes of her paw, she closed its eyes, and left, her mind now set on getting back into the ruins of Mauville City.

Warrior of Heaven
Kaxo the Lopunny
Wild/Terran
Mauville City outskirts, Abandoned Apartment Building
Affected RPers: N/A

The weird thing about humans was they always wanted things straight. Straight roads, flat walls, level floors, all that. Never understood why that was so direly important.

I was rummaging around some vacant apartment building, just digging around to see if I could find something amusing that the humans left behind. Clothes, I knew what those were for. Humans wore them because they didn't have any fur, except on their heads. Which... was weird. So, they wore these... things, which didn't blend in at all with their surroundings. Well, I guess if you didn't have any natural predators, it was okay to wear something ridiculous that stood out.

The basic stuff like chairs, beds, stairs, doors, it was easy to understand what those were for. But really, I think a chair for sitting down was pointless when you could just sit on the floor and that was fine enough. Beds were okay, but overkill. I really didn't need a special "sleepy place" just to snooze. But then there was all this other... junk that I just didn't understand. I found this one stick (of course it had to be straight again) that had all these black marks and lines on it. But it did nothing! Exactly what was the point of this thing for survival? And then there was this circular foamy disc or something, I didn't even know what it was called. Was this one of those "toys" that I had heard about? I didn't even know, making the call between tools and toys was actually tough because they all seemed ridiculous. Really, I swore, almost all of these things made no sense, and judging by how useless doors seemed, I imagined these other weird things I found laying about were even more useless.

The kitchen was the place I knew where they usually kept food. This place looked like it had been ransacked and cleaned out, which was good. I knew those Trained, urban Pokémon, which I called Punks, relied on that food because they couldn't tell what was food and what was a deathtrap as soon as they stepped out of the city. Once their junk was gone, they'd be gone.

And there was something else that was interesting.

  • Human food was already in scarce supply.
  • What was left was already spoiling.
  • No new human food was being created.

And that added up to a lot of starving, soon-to-be-dead Punks that I could foresee having to eat each other to survive. Yeah, all that hard training and work really paid off, didn't it!? In the meantime, more weird stuff was there. I had heard that this was where humans prepared food because they lost their ability to eat stuff outright like anything that didn't live in an awkward, boxy house. So, you had to guess what containers were meant for storing food and which ones were meant for cooking food. There was even one that was supposedly meant to keep food cold. So, some foods warm, some foods cold. What... the... hell. Why? No need to hassle with all that crap if you just lived in the wild and knew where to find it.

This was why these "civilized" Punks were pretty much doomed, because they were too used to eating this "impeccably clean" junk and were totally clueless anywhere outside of town. My food replenished itself. Their food... heh, heh, almost all gone.

Oh yeah, and the zombies. Those moaning, ugly, used-to-be-human things that used to be civilized, but were kind of like wild creatures without much in the ways of smarts and survival skills. I usually didn't bother fighting with them when they came puking, shambling, and moaning about. Heck, why not just leave them for the Punks to deal with? As if trying to struggle to find the only food they knew how to eat wasn't bad enough, one of these ugly bastards could be lurking around the corner, just waiting to bite some poor Punk Mankey's head off as an after-dinner snack.

However, it was my job to ensure these Punks didn't try to move into any more of our areas because they were suddenly realizing it was dumb to rely on humans to feed them. Hopefully today, I could find a few more Punks to bother and mess with. All that running, fighting, and anger they tried to unleash on me would sure burn up a lot of energy.

Lone Wolf
Austin the Seviper
Trained Faction, Terran Orientation
Mauville Game Corner
Affected RPers: None.

The Game Corner had not changed much from the time that humans owned it to the present day. Machines still whirred and blinked, plush dolls of Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip still decked the wooden shelves above the counter, and the windows, although cracked, were still somehow in one piece. The only thing that shattered the misconception that things had stayed the same were the numerous walking carcasses that shambled around the place, looking for whatever walking carcasses would want to look for...and the curled figure behind the counter.

Austin was absolutely frightened. There were too many of the walking carcasses to fight; there had to be at least a dozen of them, and he was all by his lonesome. The Seviper was curled up into a ball behind the counter, using the plush dolls as a cover for his long body. He had no idea if they were going to be of any use, though; the walking carcasses had stayed in this place for a reason, and he figured that that reason was because they somehow knew that he was still inside.

Austin stifled a sob of fear. It wasn’t fair! He just wanted a place to stay for the night. Ever since he had left the hellhole of Lavaridge, he had been all alone, chased out of every place by wild Pokemon. When he came to Mauville, he was starving. He was even willing to eat the vitamins that he absolutely hated, just to stay alive - and he eventually did. He thought he had found a safe place in the Game Corner...but he was wrong.

The Seviper heard one of the walking carcasses let out a loud moan, and he instinctively froze. Tears began to prick at the corners of his eyes, and he shut them tightly, praying that the walking carcasses wouldn’t notice him.

I don’t wanna die, I don’t wanna die, I don’t wanna die…

Another moan, this time closer. Austin shut his mouth, barely daring to breathe through his nostrils. He tried to keep himself from shivering, but terror crawled down his spine, pricking at every bone from the back of his head to the tip of his bladed tail. His flight instinct had never been stronger, not even when he was...when he was back at that hellhole in Lavaridge.

The Seviper began to shake like a leaf. Then he saw one of the Torchic dolls around his head being lifted up. He stared right into the decaying face of what was once a female human. Its eyes were naught but empty sockets. Its stringy hair did nothing to hide its skull, its ratty clothes hung from its rotting flesh, and the stench was simply unbearable. Then it ripped the Torchic doll in two and let out a screech, revealing its blackened teeth...and Austin somehow knew that all of them knew exactly where he was.

His instincts immediately kicked into gear, and his bladed tail struck the dead female four times, causing it to fall over with a moan. He slithered out of his cover as quickly as he could and broke for the door. The walking carcasses screeched at him, but the Seviper only moved faster, driven solely by terror. Two of them came to block his path, and he veered away, throwing a desperate night slash at both of them. Naturally, there was no effect, but Austin didn’t care.

His shadowy black eyes then spotted a cracked window. He coiled up and sprang at the window, crashing through it and landing on the ground outside on his back. He quickly writhed around until he was on his belly again and slithered away, ignoring the blood running down his back and sides and the tears running down his face.

I just wanna get away from here, please, please please, just let me get away…

Austin’s heart beat against his ribcage like a frantic bird Pokemon, his lungs burned like fire, and his muscles screamed in agony, but he kept fleeing for his life, fleeing away from this horrible place.

And then, when he couldn’t flee any further, when he grew too weak to do anything more than lie on his side...the Seviper broke down and cried like a baby.

Mauville City - The streets

There was something about this silence that covered the city as an eerie fog, yet it made everything seem so much better. Rhea liked it. It was odd, she thought, as she had always loved the Company of others, and was always the one to break these lovely silences like the one she experienced now. Though the world had literally devolved into 'Hell on earth', one cuoldn't simply not take notice of how much better everything seemed. Sure it was lonely, and it eventually drove some Pokemon mad, but aren't we all a little mad sometimes? The air was fresh, and a gentle breeze flew through the city, carrying away the stench of rotting dead and smoke from fires that mysteriously appeared in scenarios like these. But eh, as lovely as the silence was, there was no saying when some dead guy would pop out of nowhere and bite Your head off, or some Pokemon ambushed you. Despite the loneliness, there were danger everywhere, and Rhea knew she had to be careful, though she had never had any trouble With others before. The other Pokemon, she could hear their thoughts from a certain distance, so she always had the moment of suprise on her side, in a manner. It was worse With the dead. They had no thoughts, apparently, and therefore, they were the biggest threat to Rhea.

Speaking of the dead. As Rhea hovered Down the streets, looking around like she always used to do, she encountered what seemed like a burning car wreck. the flames bathed the walls of the surrounding buildings in eerie Dance-like shadows, and Rhea started humming a sad tune as she observed the fire. Just a simple melody, soothing and calm. She hovered a bit further away from the wreck when she saw that a silhouette of a small child came into view. Still humming, Rhea decided it would be safe hovering a few feet above ground, out of Reach of the sad sight of the child. It was a girl, With pretty Orange curly hair, With a Crimson red bow in it. She wore a dark blue dress, reaching Down to her knees. She had lost a shoe somewhere, and she walked With a limp, slightly dragging the bare foot after her as she carried on foreward. Her skin was pale, and she had an open wound in her neck, which had bled Down, covering most of her dress. Her face was expressionless, and her lips had rot away after a long time of decaying. She was such a sad sight to behold, and Rhea couldn't help but feel empathy. This little girl was just wandering around without purpose, much like Rhea herself.

We're not so different, you and I, Rhea thought, implanting her mind unto the girl, who in Return stopped up and looked around, making a weak hissing sound.

Mabye we can be friends? Rhea thought, though she suspected that the girl did not understand her Speech. the girl did, however, reply ith an agressive snarl, making her jaw drop out of its usual Place, making her face a horrid image of despair, looking around to see where the noises in her head came from.

Or maybe not.. Rhea thought, letting out a lonely sigh as she resumed to her humming, hovering away from the now highly aggressive girl.

Wisp trudged through a sludge-like substance. Decay emanated from mud below him. He was passing through a primitive cemetery. There were no organized graves. Wild pokemon disgusted him, leaving their dead in a swamp. What sense of respect did they have? They obviously had no common sense, decay would bring zombies, and zombies were hard to kill.

Without warning a grey figure darted by, then another and another. Wisp was completely surrounded by mightyena pack. Wisp sighed, he did not especially like fighting, and he wanted to be at Mauville as soon as possible. To avoid fighting he decided to try to reason with the wilds. Talking with them seemed like a better alternative to killing them, anyway.

"I'm trying to make my way to Mauville, would you brutes let me pass?" Wisp said in his most non-condescending voice. "It would make it so that I wouldn't have to resort to violence,"

The largest mightyena scoffed at him. "You think that you can defeat us? You are just one Vulpix. What power do you have over twelve of my pack?"

"So, there are thirteen of you. What kind of enemy reveals his numbers?" Wisp quickly discarded the idea of a friendly engagement. It seemed that he had made some enemies already. Not optimal if he wanted to gather allies.

"I reveal the strength of my pack to show you that you cannot pass." The mightyena was getting more and more irritated with the little vulpix. Not only was it directly disobeying his orders, but it expected to pass through his packs hunting grounds. The pokemon around here his packs territory, so it was odd that any pokemon

"How like a wild pokemon. Thinking they are superior because they have the number advantage." Wisp stated, forgetting that he shouldn't be condescending. The mightyena had had enough. "KILL IT!" The order rang out and echoed in the marsh.

"Now I know that you wilds aren't very intelligent, but--" Wisp couldn't finish his sarcastic remark before he was tackled by a smaller mightyena. Wisp now decided to actually fight instead of continue to mock the pack. He let lose Will-o-Wisp to chase down the first attacker, but was tackled by another. Mightyena piled on top of him trying to get at his flesh.

Okay, I'm done. Wisp thought and blasted them off with Inferno. The leader of the pack stepped forth to challenge Wisp.

"Look, I fought off your underlings, leave me alone."

The mightyena charged, fangs bared, and Wisp shot a Flamethrower in his mouth.

"You'll live, but you won't be able to talk. Try to lead your pack now." Wisp left. Continuing onward to Mauville City.

He had known today wasn't going to be a good day. Still, he had nothing else to do, so why not go back into the city? What could possibly go wrong?

A horde of zombies maybe. That generally took the shine off a day.

The door swung almost off its hinges as Kieran dashed through it, his messenger bag barely hanging on by its strap, and he quickly shut it behind him. Quickly scanning the room for something he could use to barricade the door, he found a chair and wedged it under the handle, locking the door in place. Satisfied he was safe, Kieran let out a small cheer before he turned his mind to more important matters.

He quickly started scanning over the room, trying to find any interesting looking items. It was a boring kind of room. As much as he liked humans, he had to admit that their homes could be a little dull. As he searched, his mind wandered, until it came to rest on the thought of the zombies that walked the streets. He remember seeing some movie about zombies, when some of the older kids he played with had decided to sneak into the movies to see a adult movie, and brought him along.

He hadn't been the only one having nightmares that night, he was sure.

But, the zombies appeared to have made the move to real life, and brought the nightmares with them. As the memories played on in his mind, Kieran's rings slowly dimmed in color, before suddenly brightening as a find blew the thoughts completely out of his mind. Opening the kitchen cabinets, Kieran found a bag full of berries that to his surprise, was completely unopened.

Maybe today wouldn't be such a bad day after all.

With a massive squelch, the zombie's head was crushed by Zhia's blow, the Zangoose's expression filled with rage as she glanced about. It was the last one within the area, and Zhia's posture slackened slightly. Ever since she started venturing from the home of her tribe she had ran into numerous of these things, as well as many foolish Pokémon who tried to attack her for her supplies, or otherwise. And she is ****ING tired of it.

"A berry for every rotter that gets in my way..." Zhia grumbled as she wiped her claws off. She looked about, the looming buildings of the human civilization were still a whiles ahead of her, with the mountainous terrain coming to an end soon. "Well, at least I can get back to the green, all of this sand and rock is making me feel all gritty and...dry..."

Zhia sighed as she pulled out a Pecha berry, she loved the things, they took the edge off, as much as she liked that. Before she could eat the tiny berry she saw the glimmer of steel in the distance. Scowling, she flicked the berry up into the air and caught it with her mouth, and then set off towards the glimmer.

It took her about an hour before she finally found it; a dead Skarmory lodged into a rather large tree. It was certainly out of her reach, provided she didn't try to climb the tree, but Zhia could determine a few things from where she stood. First, it had to have been pursuing something that had climbed up the tree, that much was obvious based on it's angle. Second, it hadn't caught whatever it was it was pursuing. Third, whatever it was had some level of compassion, as its eyes were shut, and a Skarmory is never stupid enough to close it's eyes when in pursuit. Zhia sniffed a bit, whatever it was the Skarmory had been pursuing was gone, and it was impossible for Zhia to determine what it may have been, the scent of blood on the Skarmory's metal wings was strong enough to mask its scent.

A quick climb later, and Zhia was now on the closest branch to the Skarmory. With a quick forceful strike, she dislodged the bird, who fell to the ground in a clump. Zhia took a quick glance around, seeing if there were any signs of the Skarmory's prey. Zhia scowled, small claw marks were on the main trunk, as well as where she was perched. She wasn't familiar with the pattern, but they were small. Clearly whatever it was had more ingenuity than the bird, which was likely what had saved it. With a dull thump, Zhia landed on the ground again, and plucked several feathers from the bird. Impromptu knives were more accurate for cutting berries from branches as well as cutting off matted fur. Her claws were...too bulky and better for causing damage than precision cutting. She slid the blade-like feathers into her belt, and with one last glance, set off. She was certainly curious as to what had outsmarted the Skarmory, though perhaps less so than as to why a Skarmory had strayed so far from the Ashlands. Regardless, she figured her answers still lay in that city ahead, and she knew she was going to find them, or die trying.

As Anubis followed the road to Mauville City after his stop in Slateport City, he had gone there in hopes of there being a safe haven from all the hell that had been wrought upon the world. Unfortunately by the time he arrived, everyone there had been slaughter, save for one, who was very lucky Anubis had arrived when he did.

"Man, I'm starving." Nina, a Kirlia who has been following Anubis ever since he found her. "Do we have anything to eat?"

"I'm afraid not." Anubis replied, he then looked up a tree and saw some apples hanging from the branches, "At least not yet anyway." He said as he closed his eyes and focused for a moment as he checked for a traceable aura hiding in the tree, when he did not he opened his eye and jumped onto one of the trees branches and pulled off a few apples before dropping back down and handing one to Nina.

Nina took the apple and said, "Thanks. Wouldn't be my first pick, but anything's good right now." Before taking a bite out of it.

Anubis took a bite out of his own apple and told Nina, "I find and eat apples like this while on the road all the time, you'll get used to it."

"I'm gonna have to now, huh?" Nina said as she quickly ate through the apple. Shortly after she was done she felt like starting a conversation and asked "So...Where are we going?"

"We're heading for Mauville City, if we're lucky, we'll find a possible safe haven, or at least learn if there's one out there." Anubis replied.

"I don't know if we'll be able to find any place that's safe to stay in with all those things out there. On the road seems to be where it's at nowadays." Nina suggested.

"I've been on the road for the past five years, and most of the wild ones out there aren't very hospitable towards trained Pokemon, and cities aren't much better now with those creatures on the loose.", Anubis explained.

Nina rolled her eyes with annoyance as she remarked, "So we've got walking dead humans inside, and crazy Pokemon outside. We're not getting a break anytime soon, are we?"

Anubis sighed with frustration as he and Nina continued on until they finally reached Mauville City.

Kist finally broke through the trees, away from the foreboding woods that were so dangerous. Nothing had been following her out, but still....

The cracked and decrepit stones that had once been a glimmering street were now musty and dark. There was a scuffle and the slight vibration that came from a powerful attack somewhere to the suburban area. Probably one pokemon or another getting it in with a zombie. A rock tumbled somewhere to the the right of her. One ear pricked, and the other shuddered to try and join it. My right...Ki thought. No.... Her ears flattened against her head and she ran in the direction of the most preserved building in the area. The bike shop. Herbike shop.

"No." she muttered to herself."They can't have gotten in." Before she got ten feet within the bike shop, she knew they had. The smell of rotting flesh was unmistakable. Why had they come? She was never sloppy enough to betray the scent of meat in her den. Well, there was that one...****!.

A few days before, Kist had made a kill to big for her to eat in one sitting. She had stashed it in her den, and had intended to finish it off today. It shouldn't have started to rot. Kist circled around the bike shop, thinking. She couldn't just charge in. From the smell, there were fifteen, maybe twenty of them, just around her burrow. Her nose twitched. The smell was overpowering now. She turned her head this way and that, trying to see if a zombie was behind her. She suddenly realized what was sending out the smell. In the wall, just small enough that it would be a tight fit for her, Ki spotted an exhaust vent. She clawed at it, trying to pry it free, but to no avail. It was probably rusted shut. She leaned in closer, inspecting the circular bumps. The ones with Xes in them... The shape was familiar. Ki pulled her toolbox from her mane. She opened it with a nudge of her nose, and selected one of the steel tools with the colorful plastic handle. This one should fit.... She stuck it in, and holding it firmly in her mouth and yanked violently to the right. It only seemed tighter. She twisted the other way, and the tiny screw fell out. She dropped the tool and pulled out her "lever" and pushed the rest of the vent out.

Inside was dank and musty. She had left the toolbox in some bushes, it wouldn't fit up the vent. Every step she took seemed louder and louder. Wait... louder. She pushed her ears flat against her head, and tucking her claws under a split in the vent, used hyper voice.

Even with her ears flat, the noise was deafening. She was flung back, and her grip was much too weak. Her back hit a tree, and her vision went black.

Hopes and Dreams
Apchagi the Sawk
Trained Faction/Urban Oriented
Roof of the Mauville City Game Corner
Affected RPers: N/A

It was about dawn when the first wave of rotters shambled into the city.

Having ordered the sentinels lying in ambush positions to stand fast and only attack if attacked, Apchagi watched from the roof of what used to be the Mauville City Game Corner as packs of undead moved like molasses under his feet, his shoulders tensed and his eyes hard as the stench of decay and the cries of ruined throats reached his ears and the ears of those around him. Beside the Sawk, two other Pokemon kept their eyes peeled for changes in the commotion below: Sombra, a Hypno and Apchagi's second-in-command, and Kite, a Noivern whose job it was to maintain the defensive positions of the Rightful Successors. They were both just as wound up and antsy as their leader; the silence between the three of them being more than enough of an indication of the fact as it was only punctuated by the scraping of Kite's claws on the tar paper roofing as he changed his stance to get a better look at the ground below. The last thing they needed was one of those things climbing up the facade, because if one of those nasty buggers started heading up, the whole lot of them would too.

"Tierce said they came in from the south, heading up from Slateport," Kite murmured quietly to Apchagi, his claws balling into fists as one of the zombies peeled away from the main drove, only to smack confusedly into the facade of the building next to them. It seemed that rotter didn't have the brains to scale the wall and find them up here. Good. "They're definitely hungry, but this isn't hunting packs. So, provided there's as minimal noise as possible...we should be able to plan a counterattack and drive them off with little difficulty."

Apchagi nodded, rolling his shoulders a bit as he spoke. "So, what's your plan then?"

"We cut them off to the north, and drive them back from whence they came," Kite replied, making sure to keep his voice low as a muffled moan sounded from somewhere underneath their feet...the brainless monsters must have wormed their way inside the Game Corner itself. Good thing Apchagi had gotten out when he could. "Thibault and Haddix will barricade the east and west ends, with Haddix making sure to warn the Daycare in the event of failed defenses, and Thibault's backup is to drive any of the breakaway rotters into the river if they get past him on the east side. Then, Tierce is going to set up her brigade and cut any of the zombies left away..." The dragon-bat smirked, showing his fangs beneath the bony ridge of his snout. "...if you know what I mean."

As if there was anything amazing about an Aegislash doing what it was meant to do...hell, slicing up things was all the species was good for. So of course Apchagi could count on Tierce to cut the damn corpses down to size, if she couldn't, she wasn't much of a useful sword (or a useful Successor) in the first place. And then what would she be to him? Nothing more than a useless, haunted piece of scrap metal. And that wouldn't be doing the humans that came before them any justice.

However, the Sawk held his tongue on the matter and only nodded his approval to Kite, turning his back from the edge of the roof as Sombra twirled his pendant around his finger, a wordless exchange passing between oni and elf as Kite spread his wings in preparation to take to the air, ready to give the signal to start herding the zombies towards certain re-death. Something stirred in the building below, a few screamers indicating the walking corpses had found something interesting in the Game Corner's interior. That was no matter...all that Apchagi had seen in there was the slot machines and a bunch of plush toys anyway. Perhaps the mindless rotters had gotten distracted by something shiny, Apchagi thought to himself, watching as Kite sprang up into the still morning air, flapping his wings once before heading to the north with a whip of his spade-tipped tail. The rustlings and moanings of the zombies increased with the distraction, but Apchagi knew they wouldn't try to pursue him. Hard to kill as they were, the rotters hadn't grown any wings yet, and without those, Pokemon like Kite were safe as long as they remained aloft.

However, the Sawk's thought process was interuppted just as the cries of the rotters from inside the Game Corner grew shrill, and as the fighting-type turned back and ran to the edge of the roof, one of the windows below exploded outward, thrusting into the street a large, dark, writhing form. It struggled for a few minutes before booking it across the way...but by that time, the swarm had grown agitated...and as the crowd began to break into individual packs, all hell broke loose.

"Arceus damnit!" Apchagi cried as he ran back towards Sombra, waving his hands frantically at Kite, who had now turned to circle back following the sudden commotion below. "Go! Don’t stop! Start the plan now!” he half-shouted, half-snarled to the confused dragon in the air. “Now’s not the time to do it sequentially; they’re hunting now and we need to get them moving!”

As Kite took off, Agility aiding his speed, Apchagi and Sombra quickly headed for the fire escape that lead up to the roof and scurried quickly down the ladder, Apchagi jumping off from the fourth to last rung and hardening his muscles with a Bulk-Up as a pack of zombies turned soulless eyes towards their prey.

Having only recently formed, the particular hunting pack waiting for the two Pokemon at the bottom had no definite pattern that the Successor’s strategist Thibault had informed him about...but there was one rotter at the front of the horde that still had the majority of its vocal cords still left untouched and could therefore screetch the loudest...they had been delegated the code name of “screamer” and were usually an integral part of each hunting pack, because once they started making noise, the entire group would know exactly what direction the food was coming from. This screamer was a male...a rather scrawny looking one, from Apchagi’s discerning (possibly a child at some point), but that didn’t matter much as the second it opened its diseased maw, Apchagi grabbed Sombra’s arm hard and ran the other way, the sickening sound of rotting skin striking the pavement in a staccato behind them.

“We'll regroup with Tierce and fight them off as they come!” Sombra called above the sounds of the grunting, wailing zombies as Trained Pokemon began to intermingle with the horde, launching off attacks at a lightning pace as zombies jumped for the throats of the living. A few cries rang out as some of the weaker stock fell prey, but Apchagi kept pressing forward, batting enemies out of the way on his own with a few well-placed punches and kicks as they headed for the south of the city. "If things go the way Kite said they would, he'll press them right into our trap. And then once they're taken care of, we'll call everyone back to the Game Corner!"

"And hopefully find out what damn idiot stirred up the rotters!" Apchagi finished, coiling up and springing high over a particularly tall zombie, bringing his hands together and yelling out as brought a strong hammer arm down upon the skull of the offender. Rancid brain matter spewed into the air in a fine mist as the rotter's skull cleaved in two, green and black gunk sticking to Apchagi's gi as he kept running, Sombra still closing in behind.

Affected RPers: N/A

As Flynn ran along the path to Mauville city, his mind wandered back to Slateport city, specifically, his final conversation with Marius and Cosette.

In retrospect, it hadn't been surprising. Marius was clearly missing Littleroot town, where he had met their trainer Jean, and Cosette would have followed him anywhere. When the two had told him of their plan to abandon what they had in Slateport and go to Littleroot, he had been absolutely shocked. Marius had even asked him to come with them. However, no matter how grateful he felt to the Sceptile for taking him under his wing, he couldn't go.

"I have to go back to Mauville," he had said. "If my family is still alive, that's where they'll be."

"Alright," Marius had replied. "But, if you don't find anyone, we'll take you anytime."

Afterwards, the two had headed towards Littleroot, while Flynn had headed north, towards Route 110 and Mauville. While the monotony of the road was nice, it did lean itself to introspection, which he could do without.

Are any of them even left? he thought. I think they would've, but the disease wiped out half our team. What if none of them even are there? Can I handle it?

Quickly recognizing his thoughts heading nowhere fast, Flynn stopped and gave himself a quick swat to the head, saying "Alright Flynn, came down, worry does nothing. If they're there, then we'll find them. If not, then we'll meet up with Marius again." He considered for a moment, and then said, "And now you're talking to yourself. Wonderful." He broke back into a run, and soon approached the outskirts of Mauville City.

As he saw the city, his ears picked up something bad. He could faintly hear the gut dropping sound of a horde being alerted, and quickly started to make a full on sprint towards the city.

The sooner he got to cover, the better.

As soon as they reached Mauville City, Anubis and Nina knew that it wasn't safe to be here. Off in the distance they could see the rotters all off the city, and they looked quite familiar as well.

Nina gasped at the site of the creatures and said, "Those were the same ones that killed all my friends the other day!"

"I remember evading them once I had gotten to Slateport. So this is where they went." Anubis stated as he looked around, hoping to find a safe vantage point he could reach. He picked out several buildings to his right and told Nina, "Let's get to higher ground and see what we can find." As he picked her up and headed towards the building and jumped onto one of them. As he tread through the rooftops, he made sure not to make too much noise in hopes of avoiding unwanted attention from those creatures roaming the streets.

"Hey. You think there might be others living around here?" Nina asked.

"Not sure. Can always check." Anubis replied, he then closed his eyes and focused like he did before as he sensed out whatever aura he could around the city, he sensed several auras throughout the city, but several places in particular stood out to him. There were multiple auras concentrated within the North, West, and East exits of the city, with one concentration somewhere within the city itself. All this made Anubis curious as he opened his eyes and said, "There's live Pokemon concentrated at certain parts of the city. It's weird though, some of them are at the exit points."

"Huh. Sounds like something the group I was in did, something about keeping an eye out for wilds." Nina stated.

"I've met a couple of groups that did that too, it can't just be a coincidence." Anubis stated, he looked in the direction the nearest aura he sensed was and said, "Maybe we should go meet them and see what's going on."

"If those things will let us." Nina remarked, pointing out the rotters roaming the streets.

Anubis, with Nina riding on his back, headed in the direction he sensed the auras in, when he reached it, he saw a building that significantly stood out from the rest, as he looked at the building he noticed several Pokemon on the rooftops that seemed to be observing the rotters below. Just as he started wondering how he'd go about getting to them without alerting the horde, he heard the sound of glass breaking, followed by the group on the rooftop starting to leave their position as the rotters started heading in their direction.

"Those guys are in trouble!" Nina exclaimed, clutching Anubis' back tightly.

"I see that, they need help!" Anubis stated as he noticed several rotters nearby heading in there direction. Anubis then jumped off the roof preparing an Aura Sphere in between his paws, which he then fired in their direction, taking out at least three of the rotters in one shot. Once he landed on the ground, he noticed a couple of them heading towards him, which he fought back with several strong punches and kicks.

As more of the rotters headed towards them Nina caught one of them in a Psychic hold and threw him into several more of them as she called out, "We're just gonna attract more of them if we stay here!"

"I know. It looked like that group was heading south. Hold on tight, Nina!" Anubis told her as he backed away from the group of rotters until he turned around and got away from them using Extremespeed, hoping he would be able to catch up with the group he saw.

As Miren traveled down Route 111, her mind drifted to the weather, specifically just how unbearably hot it was that day. Admittedly, it was just a normal day, but to Miren and her abnormally thick fur, the heat was stifling.Sure, the fur was nice to have up on her mountain, but down here, she would murder for a nice cold breeze. Still, she pressed on, not once wavering from the path.

Still, Miren couldn't help but wonder. She had no real specific reason to come here. Sure, it was the biggest place around, or at least it looked it from atop her mountain, but she could have obtained information about these dead things from any random Pokemon around. So why did she feel the need to come to that city?

Whatever that feeling was, she hoped it passed quickly. She didn't want to spend more time in this wretched city with its wretched heat for a second longer than necessary. She would learn from these city dwellers, and then she'd return to her rightful throne as queen of her mountain, and the most powerful Pokemon of the peaks.

An sinister chuckle escaped her as she trotted on towards the city. Now that was a plan she could get behind.

One would think the best advantage to living in these cities was how many obstacles were lying in the streets to deter zombie progress during a chase.

As the virus had struck swiftly and humans hadn't had much time to keep their heads on their shoulders, whole cities had fallen and remained much in the same state as they had been at the apex of the widespread panic. Humans were dying so quickly that they perished behind the wheels of cars, and as a result, many of the streets of Mauville were cluttered with rusting, powerless hunks of metal...some of them still at least partway filled with fuel, but at the very least drained of electrical energy from Mauville's native wild Electric Urbans before they were driven back to the wilds and the abandoned power plant of New Mauville. The resulting barricades should have at least kept the rotters from advancing so quickly...but as it turned out, all it meant to Apchagi was more work as he bounded and rolled over car hoods and toppled debris, heading for the southbound route toward Slateport with Sombra in tow.

As they passed the shrill calls of more screamers sounded around them, and the sound of footsteps increased and spread out as the now better-defined hunting packs flanked around those that were fleeing...not even the cars could impede them, as many of them simply leaped over the wrecks as if there was nothing there. Apchagi had had a close call himself as he caught his foot on the hood of a burnt-out pickup...just in time for a heavyset zombie to land next to him and reach for his throat. However, before the creature that had once been a man had gotten a hold on the oni, a strong, psychic blast of energy knocked the rotter back and sprayed Apchagi with more blackened, decomposing fluids. Apchagi jumped to his feet as Sombra nodded once, a smile forming beneath his ample nose.

"You're welcome, sir," Sombra replied, offering a paw as the Sawk jumped back onto his feet, continuing off the roof of the pickup and making a break for the clearing in the cars, where a short barricade made up of glass and rubble shrouded the forms of a moderately-sized defensive line of Pokemon, headed in the forefront by an Aegislash in Attack Stance. Upon seeing the two of them approach, the ghost crossed her scarves at the wrist in a salute, and Apchagi and Sombra returned it as they continued their dash for the barricade. "That would have been a nasty end, wouldn't it, Apchagi?"

"I could have gotten him," was the male's only reply, causing Sombra's grin to widen as they both leaped over the barrier simultaneously, taking cover just as the frustrated cries of zombies and the splattering sound of rotted innards began to fill the air. "Get over to the left flank, they look like they could use some cover!" Apchagi called, waving his hand at Sombra as an Energy Ball grazed his backside...a small singe that signified that Kite had, once again, proven his competence as a battle commander. As planned, the horde had followed them straight to the South Boulevard ambush, and all around them volleys of Pokemon attacks worked more than well enough to keep the mass of rotters away. It's like pressing them directly into the waiting blades of a meat grinder, Apchagi thought to himself as he took an attacking stance, pumped up and ready to strike at any rotter who made it past the long-range attacks and the barricade. And since their brains are too rotted to have any sense of self-preservation, they just keep on coming. It's too easy...too fuckin' easy. They might as well just impale themselves on their own protruding bone splinters.

"Sir!"

The metallic, feminine cry sounded from somewhere to his left, and Apchagi turned just in time to see Tierce, the Aegislash commander of the city's south side, gesturing wildly to a pair of figures making a mad dash for the barricade. At first, it seemed as if Tierce was trying to warn him about them as if they were rogue wild 'mons...but as they came closer, the Sawk could see that they wore human artifacts; a testament to a possible past with humans and therefore potential as Successors.

And they were right out there with a huge horde of zombies, waiting to be lunchmeat.

"Who the hell are they?!" Apchagi cried, grabbing at a zombie who had reached over the barricade, ripping its arm off as if it were attached with children's craft glue and separating the rotter's head from its body with its own limb as he stood to get a better look. "I see they're not some wild beggars, but they're also not part of our society. Did they just walk in on this clusterfuck?"

"It appears so, sir!" Tierce cried back, knocking back a rotter with her shield before driving her blade through its chest. The decomposed corpse let out a garbled death scream as it fell back over the rubble, slicing itself up further upon the glass shards it tumbled over. Like raw Tauros chuck beef, Apchagi thought to himself as the two strangers approached. He could see now that they were a Lucario and a Kirlia...good fighters, especially if they were trained. Apchagi never liked to admit any others as his superior, but there were Lucarios he had sparred with on his journeys that he at least considered worthy opponents. He would be damned if he saw this one lost to the rotters, and the Kirlia would be such a terrible loss too. Dainty as they were, Apchagi also knew it was foolish to toy with a Fairy.

And so he called out, waving his hands in the air to get the pair's attention.

"Hey, you two!" Apchagi called, waving the Lucario and the Kirlia forward before he had to stop to kick a hole in a small rotter's chest. "Over the barricade, and quickly! We'll hold them off for as long as you need to get back here!"

The one thing Attica had never liked about this route was the sand.

Having been referred to colloquially as "Sandstorm Pass" by a number of Hoennese Trainers Attica had heard gossiping in Dewford's town hall before being cleared to ship to shore, she had to admit that the nickname was definitely not a joke. This small, secluded valley nestled deep within the mountain range in the center of Hoenn caused the wind to whip up a near constant dust storm; sort of like what would happen if you blew hard enough against the inside of a bowl full of sand. Visibility was a major issue in this part...but honestly, that wasn't the worst of it. The worst part was how said windswept sediment managed to get everywhere, even in places one would think you couldn't get things caught in it. It was in her fur, her beard, her claws for Arceus' sake...and her shell. The Chesnaught swore she'd dumped at least half the desert out of the heavy wooden shell of her back by this point, but the gritty feel of more of that Alpha-forsaken sand was still chafing against the plating beneath...and it was driving. Her. Crazy.

"Please tell me we're almost there so I can roll in the river for a good couple of days," Attica mumbled to her traveling partner as they continued down the path that was supposed to lead to Mauville City. For a land now supposedly inhabited by nothing more than feral Pokemon and the rotting, reanimated corpses of humans, Weavus and Attica's journey from Lavaridge had been rather quiet...for the most part. A few Machop had decided to cause the two trouble a while back but Attica and Weavus had defeated them effortlessly, sending the Superpower Pokemon packing as if they were nothing more than new-hatched Cleffa. "I think the only way to get this damn grit out is to flush it, and I can't do that without a single water source in sight...man. Where's a Pokemon who knows some sort of water move when you need one?

She leaned forward on her knuckles, raising a foot up to scratch at her side much as a dog would, causing Weavus to stop in his tracks and glance back at her, perhaps making sure she was keeping up. "Third time I've had to do this...you'd think that'd mean I have a problem. But nope...it's just the desert. And the fact that it wants to make my body its permanent home, but that's besides the point."

Arceus damn this entire town. When he'd left it had been paradise, humans everywhere, always willing to give a treat if you tilted your head at just the right angle. Now, there were still humans, but it seemed as though they wanted a return on their investments.

Flynn's though processed stopped dead as he quickly dodged another swipe and retaliated with a couple Pin Missiles without losing stride. It seemed like there was no end to these things. Ever entrance he tried to take was blocked off by more zombies, and while this one seemed heavily populated compared to the others, Flynn recognized it.

South Boulevard one of the biggest streets in town., Flynn thought to himself. If I can just keep going, I should be able to find some abandoned buildings to take shelter in. Quickly dodging another swipe, he grumbled to himself, somewhere preferably with less zombies to ruin his day.

Taking a quick look ahead to plan his course, he saw something that shocked him. Some Lucario and a Kirlia had just jumped directly into the fray, and were fighting quite expertly. What are those idiots doing?! Flynn practically screamed in his mind. Didn't those two realize they were just sacrificing themselves to the zombies? However, just as fast as he saw them enter, he saw the Lucario grab the Kirlia, and start blazing a trail up the boulevard, heading towards what looked like a barricade, with some Sawk waving them over. Unfortunately for Flynn, he was still too far away to hear what he said.

Hoping the invitation extended to him as well, he quickly made some distance between himself and the horde, and focused deep within himself, pulling out energy for one more Agility to get him to the barricade, and mentally recited some mantra Jean had taught him when he was teaching Flynn the move.

Speed. I am speed. With that last thought in his mind, Flynn took off like a rocket, blasting away the zombies beginning to crowd him, and making a beeline directly for the barricade.

As Anubis sped down south towards where those other Pokemon were headed, he swiftly passed through all sorts of obstructions he hadn't noticed from the rooftops. Cars littered the streets Anubis was running through, some parked neatly next to the sidewalks, others left in a crashed derelict indicating that a human had been driving them around the time the infection hit. However, Anubis didn't take the time to stop and observe all the damage as he ran along the ruined streets of Mauville until he noticed what looked like a barricade and a group of other Pokemon in the distance. But it wasn't long afterwards that a group of zombies had suddenly gotten in front of Anubis, forcing him into a screeching halt. "Dammit!" Anubis exclaimed as he stopped in front of the undead horde.

"Agh, aren't there enough of these things already?" Nina asked in a frustrated tone. Still holding onto Anubis from behind she had taken it upon herself to grab one of the creatures in a Psychic hold calling out "Get out of our way, you dead ****ers!" and tossed him aside knocking all the other ones in front of them over like dominos.

Anubis was just about to start again when he heard a moan coming from behind. This prompted him to instinctively turn around and swiftly elbow an approaching zombie in the stomach before bringing his paw up, impaling the spike on the back of it into the zombies face. It wasn't until he kicked the zombie away that he noticed the horde was slowly surrounding them. "This looks bad." He stated as he got into a fighting stance.

"There's no way in hell I'm becoming lunch for these freaks!" Nina remarked in disgust.

It was at that moment that a barrage of Pokemon attacks came from seemingly out of nowhere and quickly cleared out most of the horde surrounding them. Just before the duo could take in what was going on, they heard a voice call out "Hey, you two!" prompting Anubis to turn in the direction he heard it from where he saw a Sawk waving his arms out briefly before having to stop and strike down an approaching zombie, "Over the barricade, and quickly! We'll hold them off for as long as you need to get back here!"

"You heard him!" Nina exclaimed, "There's our way out!"

"Ya, hold on tight, Nina." Anubis suggested as he sped towards the barricade via Extremespeed with Nina on his back before clearing it in a single jump and landing safety on the other side. He took the chance to breath a sigh of relief before turning to the Sawk and telling him "I owe you and your comrades thanks. That was starting to look dicey."

"Can we save the thanks for later?" Nina said as she used her Psychic powers to throw back another zombie into the group behind it.

Anubis took a stance near the barricade close to the Sawk and told him "I hope you don't mind a little help here." Before charging up an Aura Sphere and firing it into the horde of approaching zombies, taking out at least three of them while knocking down several others nearby.

Who the heck would ever want to live here!?

This place was just an amusing disaster zone. Straight ahead, more zombies. By the street, near a car, behind a dumpster... this was just a riot. How the crap was anyone ever going to find human food with all this ruckus about? As if it wasn't bad enough the food was scarce, you had this maggot-heads to deal with. And heck, fighting them alone would work up an appetite.

Glad this wasn't the place where I got my food from.

Going through Mauville City by the rooftops was the ideal way to travel. The streets were cesspool of zombies. I even saw one Punk Azumarill attempt to search for food in a dumpster, only to get too distracted and become a fresh zombie lunch. Although I couldn't help but wonder... why didn't the zombies just eat each other? But still, the rooftops were a safe bet and I found it relatively easy to go from one to the other. Maybe I was just getting better at this jumping thing.

So, someone could ask what the heck was I doing here? Simple. Finding bait. Not only would finding their food or healing supplies give me something to use to bait traps, but it was good for taunting those hungry and weakened Punks into doing something stupid, like trying to take our territory because they had become too used to trainer life and forgot how to hunt and forage for food on their own. Oh, and the other perk? Whatever I found and took was that much less for them.

The Punks always searched for food and healing supplies in the obvious places. Drug stores, grocery plots, the obvious locations. Those places were way cleaned out by now. The only thing they'd find there were zombies just waiting for something stupid enough to walk into there to be eaten.

Private homes and plots on the outskirts of the city were probably the only places left that had anything. Locked apartments were also a better bet, and I found it relatively easy to kick locked doors open. I had found one apartment that was locked down, and after breaking my way in, things seemed to be in order. That was usually a good sign.

Zombies hadn't been through here, since the furniture wasn't thrashed all over the freaking place and I didn't find blood and half-eaten corpses around. As for food and medical supplies, there were some, probably more than I could carry. Well, didn't want those Punks stumbling across these things. Whatever couldn't be carried, I simply busted. Little by little, their supplies were running out, and if they thought they could go prancing around on my turf like they owned the place, yeah, they had another thing coming.

After that, I decided to head back home with my haul. I saw zombies on the way out, but I just ran right past them and continued going on the rooftops where I could. Let those Punks deal with 'em.

Eris opened the door to her shack, her safe haven from the outside world. On the outside, it looked like a large wooden shack that had been reinforced to take on the new world. The windows were boarded with at least two pieces of sheet metal each and held in place by wooden planks that were traditionally used to close off windows. She was still working on it, however; hoping to find barbed wire to her home and the area around it with.

Inside, the one-room structure was packed to the brim with various trinkets. Some having to do with her skill in magic, others having to do with her mechanical side. Books lined the bookshelves, mechanical pieces lay scattered across her workbench and in the drawers. Various containers of ingredients, body parts in jars, bones, and bottles of potions lay near old occult writings at her magic workshop. Her bed, composed of only a bare mattress and metal bed frame, sat in the far right corner. A nightstand lay next to it with empty drink cans and tin foil wrap that had little remains of the food she had prepared in her cooking station, located in the far left corner of the shack.

The vixen walked in, closing the door behind her and shaking the ash off her shoulders. Ash storms had become even more common lately. She didn’t know why, but she thought it may have something to do with whatever killed the humans off disrupting the volcano’s output of ash. That was another mystery, how could it give off ash if it hadn’t erupted since before she was born? She shrugged off the questions that came to her head and walked over to her mechanical workbench, located on the right side of the room. Upon it lay the components to something she had been looking forward to making for a very long time.

Once these are finished, those zombies won’t stand a chance, she laughed. As if they did in the first place.
