Am I weird for playing pokemon?

I am 17 years old and going on 18 in june and I have been playing pokemon since I was almost 9...


I love pokemon, and I find it incredibly fun and my friend just made a comment and saying I'm weird and well I do think I am weird...but I never thought of me being weird and childish for playing pokemon...what is your oppinion on this? x'[

Look around at all the people in this forum. With this many people who also play Pokemon, I don't see how it can be considered weird.

And if you don't see anything wrong with you playing it, you shouldn't stop.

It actually depends on your obsession. Are you extremely, uncontrollably obsessed with Pokemon? If you focus on nothing else but Pokemon, you are obsessed. But I see nothing wrong with you playing Pokemon once in a while without being truly obsessed with it.

Of course not!The same way swearing and drinking dosen't make you mature,playing pokemon dosen't make you childish or weird.Especially as it's the second biggest video game franchise of all time.

@ThousandVoices- As long as you're around Serebii, no one's gonna call you weird for playing Pokemon. If you enjoy doing something, then you shouldn't really care what people say. Unless you enjoy committing homicide. Then you should probably start listening.

I'm going on 18 aswell and i play it, all my family (apart from my mother who is very supportive) say i am 'sad' and to grow up. It really bothers me as even my family get on my case about it, i still love and play it though but i hate the teasing.

Maybe your friend need to actualize his definition of what being weird is.
Don't stop I am a 15 year old girl and even though Mario (my best friend) says it's weird, hes got his esmerald team at level a hundred and loves playing with me in the weekends

People who think you're weird for playing pokemon are just judging you by what they know. They think of pokemon as pikachu vs jigglypuff all the time, and special rare super strong mew pokes. If they actually tried playing them for a while and tried to understand more, they might even become fans. Some people are too ignorant to consider all the facts before judging, and it is a major problem in the world today. Everyone does it, some more than others, but that doesn't mean they're bad people, they just think of themselves as almost perfect. Not bashing anyone, it's just the facts. So ThousandVoices, keep playing if you like it, just don't let it interfere with important things in life like school and relationships. That's my advice.

im 16-and-a-half, and i know people at my school who are older than me who play. a lot of people play, they'd just never admit it.
"weird" is a conceptual thing, like "normal". it depends on what you are compairing yourself too.
you shouldnt worry about it. :)

With stuff like Iv's, Ev's, Natures and competivie battling(wifi, Netbattle) Pokemon has turned from rather childish to strategic(sp?). There's nothing weird about playing such a game. I'm turning 18 this year btw.

wow I showed my grandpa who is 82 and he started playing i think thats kinda funny and his team rocks.
