Nah, it just means Pokémon Horizons will be relatively contained in Paldea and school being emphasized, just like Alola was relatively self-contained with school being emphasized. Honestly, the Horizons cast being in school is what the SM's premise should have been, rather than inserting Ash (and raising a lot of questions).
Besides, Tomiyasu did oversee Kukui and Burnet's romance and wedding, so he can actually make Amourshipping a reality if presented with a much older Ash Ketchum.

The professors started bonding at SM048 during the sleepover, then Kukui saved Burnet from a group of Jangmo-o and Hakamo-o at SM052 while spending the rest of the day together until Ash and friends returned from the Ultra Space, and then later got marrried at SM055, shared more family moments and had a child.
Might not be the most brilliant writing, but saying it had literally zero build-up or development is not true.

You realize how lazy and ridiculous that sounds right? Lmao even May x Drew had more going on for them and they're not even dating yet. Might not be the most brilliant? Might not even be the most basic because it fails to answer the 3 fundamental postulates of Romance : how, why and for what reason did they fall for each other.
I knew this fandom loved to defend literal garbage tier writing but holy **** this is a new low.

Sir, the Ash anime was an anime made for promoting the mainline videogames and to sell merchandise for kids, not to have a complex history or explanations about what is going on with the story.
Regardless of that, Tomiyasu did adapt Kukui and Burnet's romance from the SM games, so he could perfectly do an Amourshipping episode if the writers decided to bring the topic back, something that I doubt will happen, but never say never.

Honestly, it's a good thing that Pokémon has completely ignored Ash's one year anniversary of absence and instead become completely dedicated to Liko's 1st anniversary as the new protagonist. The biggest obstacle for Amourshipping has always been Ash being seen as this eternal 10 year old child with his Pikachu serving as the advertising mascot for Pokémon merchandise and games.
As long as the stigma of Ash being a walking ad remains, he will never grow up or advance in romance. If people want Amourshipping to go further beyond what was already done, keep Ash out of Pokémon Horizons for another 3 years or so. Let the new generation of kids only know of Liko, Roy and Dot as the Pokémon protagonists. So when Ash does finally return, the writers and directors are free to do anything they want with him and not oblige to old traditions of marketing.
