Amourshipping Thread V3

Who raised a controversy for the actual scene? Which parents?

The only one who raised a stink about it were the ones who were butthurt about it or feeling insecure through projection. IIRC, it was one of the top rated anime moments in Japan by vote (I forgot the exact details, it was brought up a lot of pages back) and Amour as a whole reigns supreme in Japan.

Yeah exactly , Serebii is not the representation of the whole fandom, Amour is hated here sure, but it's still a massive minority.

Japan love Amourshipping , I remember when Serena came back back in April 2022 the whole fandom on social medias was hyped , some people that aren't even part of the fandom tweeted about it, even in the west.

For references, look how much attention (and support) it got at the time :

(over 100k likes)

(This QRT and the original tweet)

The only time I saw the anime get that much attention in 2022 for an actual episode airing was for Ash vs Leon part 4, there were a lot of casual fans that don't usually watch the anime tweeting about Serena return on April 8th, this day was very amazing.

I'd say if Amour ends up canon the only controversy you'll see is in the West and it will only be minor, Japanese fandom will love it for sure.

And if you want to see a Japanese tweet about the kiss anniversary last year, I can find you one :

(Still a bit sad that Serena overshadowed Lisia's first appearance in the anime... I guess it was worth it)

Peanuts aren't just a nut.
I know shipping in certain fandoms can get toxic, but would people actually be upset if Ash didn't end up with a specific person? This is first and foremost a kids show about anthropomorphized monsters beating the crap out of each other, not a romance...
Yes, there would be plenty of upset people even if the majority of fans weren't teenaged and older (which they are).

There would be controversy because this show is aimed for five year olds and kissing on a show for toddlers is controversial, even if it was an implied kiss.

I always thought that amour is very unpopular on Twitter but i'm dead wrong

...And there is way more, I just didn't want to flood this entire thread with Twitter links lmao. Like I said, Anti-Amourshippers on Twitter and Serebii are a minority , Amour is extremely popular and beloved for the most part, it's just that like every popular things, it brings haters, that's how life work.

My post was mostly targeted to @cricketlaxwolvesbandy to show them that Amour is indeed hated here but it's not controversial at all in the majority of the fandom, haters seem loud because you only see them complaining and hating but the day Serena came back on April 2022 all I saw was hype , love and happiness on social medias about the Ash & Serena reunion.

yeah it seems like there is a divide between the western and eastern fandom when it comes to shipping the dominant ones in the west are most likely satogou and pokeshipping and the dominant ones in the east are amour and pearl.

I don't see how Amour is not dominant in the west too ? Amour has a 4k people community on Reddit and this thread is the most active shipping thread here.

I'm not saying Pokeshipping or (what's the name?) Ash x Goh is not popular just that I highly doubt it's more popular than Amour in the west.

Edit : I also checked, Amour and Pokeshipping are the only shipping that have an official page on Bulbapedia, Ash x Goh don't have one.

Found this too :

didn't most of the ships had one in bulbapedia what happened?

I think I’ll just stay in the Amour thread from now on, it’s safe here.
Also Pokemon has done unpopular things in the past (Kalos League loss) and they never rectified that for Greninja which makes me mad, so who’s to say they can’t not ignore Amourshipping?
Honestly there should be a thread just for XY stans. Ash got retribution for the Kalos League loss (Alola and PWC wins) but Greninja didn’t, its form got retconned and it just got used as a pawn for Lucario. Like show me Ash Greninja defeating some powerful Pokémon as it was advertised to.

That's actually what I'm doing since April 2022 and I'm fine here , I barely post on others threads. The Amour thread while obviously being about Ash and Serena is also a safe place for all XY(&Z) fans on Serebii (but RIP to those people that love XY(&Z) but dislike Amourshipping I guess).

Btw , I don't want to get your hopes up because this one twitter guy already posted misinformations in the past , BUT if this is true (might need Dephender to confirm this?) it can at least confirm that Serena will appear , now , will they decide to acknowledge Amour if she is set to appear ? That's another story...

What exactly do people who enjoy good romance think of the pairing? Not based on personal like or dislike nor on the anime having an official ship, but for those who like well written romance books or shows, do they find it a good romance? Or is it poorly written? Didn't watch too much of XY so I won't personally try to give an opinion.

Whether it’s Serena, Misty, Dawn, Goh, Latias, or nobody at all, I don’t think it’s anything to lose sleep over.
This. So much this.

As far as the anime is concerned I’m here for the Pokémon first. In fan-fiction? Ship him with whoever you want. Give him a harem if you want heck make him gay if that’s your thing. I don’t care. It’s not like anyone is forcing a gun to my head to read something I’m not interested in.

I did force myself to read a bunch of betrayal fics for research purposes once. I wanted to write a parody or satire of them. …I think that’s why I’m so cynical towards the fandom.

Anyways, I don’t know how much sway Rica has with the anime staff but her interviews regarding Ash’s lack of interest in romance do not inspire much hope at a resolution.

And I’d rather they do nothing than do a piss poor rush job in one episode. I want to see this romance develop naturally and not be forced. Save it for a movie or a manga.

VA opinions probably mean little. I mean Rica says Ash has no interest in romance while Gary’s Japanese VA says that Ash is most likely to get married first in an interview last year (i think it was for a marriage q and a)

I don’t think those who enjoy good romance like the ship, as evidenced by @Satoshi & Touko
Who’s coming back in the Squirtle Squad episode then? Tracey?
Honestly they could troll us like they did for JN105 (favorite thing for the writers ever is to troll and upset Amourshippers) for Serena to appear at the end of the series and then ignore or sink Amourshipping.
I just don’t see Amour becoming canon happening, but I’m happy to be wrong.

If Amour does become canon the salt from some users will be worth it.

No it won’t. I’ve seen where this goes. It’s never pretty.

If Pokeshipping becomes canon are you going to toss salt everywhere?

Frankly, I hope nothing becomes canon. At least not right now. There is no way they can do any ship justice in 6 episodes when they’re trying to give every one focus before the end.

nothing will become canon, they won't age Ash (until Rika retires) so nothing will really happen, the worst that can happen is that they either retcon Serena's crush or that she moves on but probably it will be a one-sided love until the very end, which I guess (?) is better than being platonic like the rest of the ships.

so no, in the chance that Serena appears in these last 11 episodes which is really high I don't think they won't even adress the crush, the best you can get will be a teasing or a blush but anything than that it's just cope.

Honestly if they show the ribbon in any way I would say it's a big win.
