Not everyone, when it comes to main characters only lear, flint and serena acknowledge red as the strongest

Ash's JN design here is so much better than that red design.

The turtleneck may look awkward but it is still better than the jn youngster joey outfit

The Journeys Ash design never vibed with me. He's literally wearing his pajamas from XY with a jacket over it (okay I know the shorts are slightly different). I think pants and gloves fit Ash better.

I liked Red's Masters Ex design. The jacket is unique but spiffy. Ash could have looked good on it:

I think Ash with shorts and no gloves could have worked with a more bolder look, like if he really did rock the yellow:

To be honest, I used to have SS Red and Serena alongside MC's Torchic as my go-to fire type team. Nowdays, I use them only for stuff like the current egg event.

I don't think anyone actually expected EX to use a different model, it's just something that some people wanted to see.

I did hate the shorts too but honestly with time the design has completely grown on me, I main Ash in Masters so gotten used to him by now and actually love his model now lol, I just wish he had the red shoes and was referred to as a World Champion. Would love for a Part 3 Ash event someday

Technically, wouldn't all of Ash's companions be considered his "childhood friends", assuming he keeps in touch with them until adulthood?

Unless you are talking about the camp scene, in which case, is Ash helping Serena out for the 10 or so minutes to get her back to camp really equivalent to being labeled as "childhood friends"?

They're not childhood friends. Anybody who says that probably doesn't know what the trope entails. It's a forgotten first meeting, works like a red string of fate.
