An Alola! in Kanto! Brock & Misty! (985)

CMButch

Kanto is love. Kanto is life.
First of all; Bewear is amazing and funny, didn't expect that at all.But if Bewear becomes TR's Pokemon, it'd be dumbed down ,since TR can't win :(
Second, is Squirtle back? We have seen him with SS in Oak's lab, Pidgeot is probably flying around Pallet.
Third, do Misty and Brock own all these Pokemon they showed or they were only for the lecture?
Also they were bringing suitcases, that means they will stay longer in Kanto?

Another thing that bothered me, do they really have to make fun of a Raichu by making it look bad every time one appears? its like their way of saying "we won't evolve Pikachu, see Raichu sucks!", we know you won't evolve him stop with this crap.

So Tracy is dead :) I liked the episode but wish we saw more of Ash's pokemon plus more human interactions

There weren't any flashbacks. I guess we'll see them next week to flesh out Ash's relationship with Brock and Misty.

From the pictures on Serebii, they did show Butterfree and Larivitar at least.

I was 100% surprised Squirtle Squad was at Oak's lab

Also, how did Jigglypuff randomly end up in TR Mecha Meowth?

Lol last time bewear came to escort TR in abike, this episode it came in his own plane or whatever that thing is, what's next a freaking space shuttle or something like that.

I'm now pretty much convinced that Squirtle now resides at Oak's Lab with its squad. And man, if that was really Ash's Pidgeot then the episode was truly remarkable! Almost every fan until now had pretty much given up hope that Pidgeot would be ever seen again!

Yeah, the episode felt very cramped, hopping from nostalgia reference to nostalgia reference without leaving any space for actual interactions or breathing room. A straightforward old-fashioned Team Rocket encounter with a robot, a Jigglypuff song, a girl Brock likes only to get dragged away by Misty. Most of it wasn't new, it was just an episode filled with nostalgia references but lacking a coherent overall purpose or plot direction.

Wasn't simply experiencing Kanto pokemon and comparing forms the plot? They did plenty of that. The nostalgia was mostly things happening while they were doing that.

Captain Pikachu is EPIC
The problem of the episode was just being too much short. Probably we didn't have more interactions because of time constraints. The writers couldn't fit everything in 20 minutes

But the rest was amazing, I really felt the nostalgia when the Jigglypuff made everyone sleep

for people confused about mew, i think rotom mentioned that he has all the kanto pokemon in his data but is still missing one. basically the same thing origins did.

So we got Tauros (all 30 of them!), Squirtle, Pidgeot (maybe), Muk, Corphish, Totodile and of course Bulbasaur! I'm happy with what we got but I was expecting more... like a solid 10 to 15 more Ash Pokémon cameos at least. Overall the episode was fine (7 without nostalgia goggles and a 9 with nostalgia goggles).

Well, it wasn't as good as it could have been but didn't go as bad as I feared. It was fun seeing Ash's classmates just marveling at all the Kanto Pokemon, not to mention it was really nice to see Misty, Brock, even Ash's mom and Professor Oak again (not used to seeing them mid-saga anymore, aside from her visit to Alola). Since they don't bother to have Ash spend any time at Pallet Town anymore in between sagas (both BW and XYZ ended with Ash arriving at Pallet Town, then the next episode already had him setting out on his next journey, I think?), it was nice to see Oak's Pokemon preserve again.

Wish they hadn't brought the Jigglypuff gag back from the dead. It was stupid 20 years ago, its still stupid now. At least Ash, Misty and Brock recognized it as a bad thing, and for the others its temper tantrum is novel the first time. And at least Brock introduced himself as a Pokemon doctor before he tried to flirt (I think Pokemon breeder was mentioned too?).

Huh, Misty sure remodeled the Cerulean Gym. Nostalgia aside, it was an ok episode. The nostalgia is fun, but was reminded of the good and bad parts from the first season (boring TR robot, but wow, there is no escape from Bewear, is there?). Didn't expect the Squirtle Squad to have moved to Oak's, and was that Pidgeot?! After all this time?! It was fun to see the Tauros and Muk again (Ash blast-off gag aside).

I loved this episode so much, I had a smile on my face for its whole duration.
The Bewear scene was just damn funny and all the interactions were super cute, it was just lovely from start to finish!

How can we spend an entire episode at Oak's Ranch and still only see like 3 of Ash's old Pokemon, at least show al his Kanto mons, jeeze

So the only non Kanto cameos we got were Totodile and Corphish..

That's disappointing. But that's probably my fault for expecting too much.

My main point was that none of them had a time to breathe. I think Muk was on screen for like 10 seconds for instance. Geodude even less. The episode hopped so fast from scene to scene it didn't give the audience time to actually take in what was happening.

I'll give credit, they tried to cram in as much character and nostalgia as they could in one episode, so much stuff I didn't expect to emerge. Even from the Alola side of things, I liked their interactions, even if they were mostly gags, Ash being the savvy one for once was amusing, especially when Jigglypuff appeared. Also liked they used the opportunity to give Marowak a role.

I admit the 'Pokemon get lost' plot seemed pretty pointless. The TR battle was also so incredibly short lived I had trouble seeing the point in it, it might have been worth more if it was a proper battle to show the Kanto twerps' teamwork again or we got some of their funny chemistry from the first series for more nostalgia points (though it seems poor Lycanroc can't catch a break since it evolved). Bewear almost made up for it though. I guess they TECHNICALLY blasted off. XD Oh and so did Ash and Pikachu this episode. :p

Was it mentioned why exactly the TRio were in Kanto by the way?

Other neat little tidbits like Bulbasaur being the straight man in Oak's lab and being creeped out by Mimikyu, Litten once again at the mercy of Delia, Togedemaru seeming to have full on Electric Mouse affinity, Marowak picking very dangerous fights.

I also liked Brock and Misty and some of the Kanto 'mon had some of their old personality displayed here and weren't just blank nostalgia props.

More Kalos music used again, not a bad thing, but I was kind of hoping in a Kanto nostalgia special we'd get KANTO music. Even TR's 'retro' motto was technically their early Kalos one.

One thing though...did those comparison Pokemon belong to Brock and Misty, or were they just demonstration specimen or something?

Life doesn’t end, …it changes.
Delia had such a glorious re appearance, hers is one for the taking! :D:D

There were so many jokes, I couldn't keep laughing at them and so many references not just from the past but many Pokémon to keep up with. I did get my wish (sort of) that I would see Oshawott again lol. I'm kind of glad that they didn't show all of Ash's Pokémon... there was so much to begin with. We got to see peace maker, unofficial leader Bulbasaur at it so he was great in his brief moments. I loved seeing Misty joining Lana in the water and all the brief moments each had with the girls.

Also, passionate!Kiawe is back at it again!! Him riding Rapidash was one of his best scenes to date, what an adrenaline junkie lol. The episode felt so short. I wish it was an hour. Speaking of which, I loved seeing everyone laughing at what the Jigglypuff drew on their faces, Pikachu getting frustrated at the Marowaks, and Kiawe's Alola Marowak messing up everything. Onix appeared in all the regions (I think) and they've always had a moment where they ran away from it. Great episode, super happy to see the older characters appearing and meeting the newer characters to pass the torch.

I think after all this time pidgeot is still waiting for ash to fullfill his promise. So that really was squirtle squad there.

But the Pidgeot was shown right after the Squirtle Squad, flying with its pre-evolution. It's highly likely that it was intented to be Ash's Pidgeot, or at least a reference to it.

We did get Brock's Crobat, Larvitar & Togepi via flashbacks, and several non-Kanto background pokémon that appeared in Prof. Oak's lab like Corsola & Bellossom
