I sent a email to NoA about the removal of the slot machines even though the anti-gambling laws aren't in America. Here is the response I got.

Nintendo of America said:
Hello,

I appreciate your taking the time to share your comments with us regarding the removal of the slot machines in the Game Corner of the Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver games. The reason for the development changes between one region and another aren’t made known to us but rest assured that your email will be forwarded on to the appropriate department for further review.

Sincerely,

I wonder if that was their way of making it seem that they didn't know the answer. Though if I do get another email, I will post it here for the answer to be seen. ;026;

I hate to say this but...

... I'll be honest. I didn't even notice there were Slot Machines in the game after Generation I. They won't be missed here.

No, for taking the slot machines out. But whatever on that. I didn't use it that much, but having the option is always good too. It was probably better this time around and I would have checked them out.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if they're in Celadon? I'm only up to Ecruteak, so I've no clue.

Pretty sure it's Voltorb Flip! throughout the game; why take them out of one casino and put them into another?

Hopefully they'll make a return in fifth-gen, not that they're a huge loss; it's just bizarre that they'd do something like that in every region outside of Japan, imo.

I don't think really think its all that bizarre. I'm sure concerned parents (with nothing better to do) probably complained, suggesting the game encouraged gambling. From what I hear similar gaming machines exist in Japan no problem and is actually an established part of the subculture; however, outside it's a different story, particularly in the US where it doesn't take much to get Nintendo in a PR disaster.

Though the fact that they have existed in all generations until now makes me wonder why it took them so long.

Still, it wasn't even that very useful anyway. I always just exchanged coined to save myself the time.

Ahh well. The only time i've ever used the slot machines was my first ever run through of Blue to get Porygon lol. Never used the slot machines since.

I always just bought the coins so meh...

Honestly, I'm more annoyed they took out the ability to buy the coins outright.

I'd rather just buy my Thunderbolt TM rather than play a mediocre Minesweeper/Picross knock-off.

As far as I know, ERSB has clamped down on gambling in the games. While the games could have kept the slots, they would have had a higher rating which would have caused kids to not be able to get the game

As the Voltorb Flip doesn't have you use or lose coins, it is exempt from these rules

Here's an idea. What if they increased the value of the coins from 1000 per 50 to 2000 or so? That way, it's easier to get the coins, but you'd be penalized for taking the easy way out. Of course, Voltorb Flip would be kept in, but the point I'm trying to make here is that kids will be encouraged to learn patience either way. On the one hand, it takes a shitload of cash to get the coins needed for Pokemon and items you want. On the other hand, players who prefer not to shell out the cash can just learn the ins and outs of Voltorb Flip until they get it right. Either way, you're learning to be patient.

I don't know why so many people have complained about this, I've always found the slots irritating and just ended up buying the coins. This saves me a lot of pokedollars and gives me a fun little game that's kind of addicting once you get the hang of it. They had to take out the ability to buy coins because it wouldn't make any sense, you're not spending them so you wouldn't have any need to buy them.

No wonder the games came out earlier in Europe, not because they had advantages in technologies, but because they are lazy bumps and made other people try to think like them so what if Europe doesn't like gambling, what does that have to do with us? why do we have to suffer the loss of our beloved slots because of the Europeans? believe I got nothing against them, just that one law!! except Amsterdam they're cool.

I didn't mind the slot machines myself. I found a way to win on them... but for the most part I ended up just buying coins.

As for the new game, I'm not really much of a fan of Minesweeper myself. Heck I suck at it :p.

I never played the slot machines except in Gen 4 and that was only because of the Clefairy easy-win mode. I like the new game but wish you could still buy coins.
