An Idea for Brock

One of the biggest complaints I read about Brock is that he's a stale character that has no purpose. Before he joined the team he was a rock type trainer...But he seems to have given that up over the years and taken to all of the different types. There for awhile he said that he wanted to be a Pokemon Breeder but it seems like that interest has waned over the years as well.

Despite this, I think that Brock still has a 'quest', too. Ash wants to win the badges and Hikari wants to win the ribbons and Brock wants to win the heart of a girl. What if instead of treating Brock's constant lovesickness like a joke, they took it serious? What if he started to feel deep feelings for a female rival of his (Or Ash's or even Hikari's, I suppose) I decided he wanted to start training Pokemon to impress this girl? I could see him going back to his Breeding roots and trying to get his Pokemon to reach their full potetinal -- like training a Geodude so it's arms have maximum strength, and Etc.

Any thoughts on this? Also, how would YOU save the character of Brock? It seems like we're stuck with him for another season so what would you like to see done to save Brock's character?

A main girl for Takeshi, along with maybe a male rival?

I'd like it to happen, but it won't.

Yeah, ok!
If Brock ever had a real girl that shared affection for him and that was actually recurring, that would be Brock's ticket off the show.

While most of us would actually see that as a GOOD thing, the writers instead think that dragging Brock's lifeless shell through season after season is a better choice.

To be totally honest, I've given up on Brock altogether. I barely even pay attention to him anymore unless he has an episode to himself. (And Brock focused episodes happen like once a year). Greggle is totally awesome, but I'm not getting my hopes up to see it used too much.

If Greggle does take the role of getting Takeshi off of girls, we'll at least be able to see it every episode.

I agree with Franky; a rival would be interesting, to say the least. It's almost baffling why they haven't given the poor man a rival yet, seeing as the writers are willing to shell out rivals for anyone else. Closest rival Brock ever had was the girl who owned the Vulpix. Even Max had Maxx in Maxxed Out.

It could very well be his ticket off the show -- but it wouldn't mean that he'd have to leave right away. Brock might not see his true love interest for like four-six episodes at a time, and he'd have to like...fight to get her interest. It could last at least a season, maybe more if they wanted to throw in a male rival for her affection as a plot twist...Or some other weird plot twists.

EDIT: Sorry! I'm new to quotes.

That's actually a good idea. I feel bad that i've never had the same thought before. But i don't know how it ranks as a quest, but if it were done nicely it might be interesting.

But that's alot of ifs and buts. I guess it's kinda unlikley but you really never know. Actually the more i type the less convinced i get....:(

Hey! Listen!
How bout Brock becomes a travelling gym leader? This way it can set up league rivals for Ash BEFORE the league.

Funnnngaaaaa
Well, Greggle could possibly poison Brock and kill him......

But, what would a rival do?

"I'm gonna breed better then you!"
"I'm gonna get laid first!"
"I'm gonna read the guide book better!"
"I'm gonna state obvious facts in order for the younger kids at home to actually understand what the hell is going on!"

Fight over the girl they both love through various things? Pretty much like every other rival, but with leagues and festiboles?

Ash fan girl! Cute!
A rival for Brock might not be a bad idea but right now there's already two on the show one for Ash and one for Hikari I don't know if they have enough room for a Brock rival. But if they did it could be like this...Brock likes this one girl so, another guy Brocks age likes the same girl and hits on every girl like Brock. Brock thinks the guy is going to take advantage of the girl so he sees her off, now its true he's going to try and stop this guy from flirting with every girl in the show. Than shippers will take this as an oppertunity to call it jealousy and make them an item huzzah!!

Hmm...That is an interesting qustion, of how he'd compete with his rivals. I like the idea of him giving out information for the kids at home...But giving out 'better information' than his rival.

Rival: "That's a Diglet! They're very small but when they work together they can dig great tunnels."

Brock: "True. but perhaps even more interesting is that sometimes when groups of Diglet work together they evolve into one Pokemon -- Dugtrio!"

Rival: "Well, technically any Diglet can become a Dugtrio by itself."

Brock: " True. But you have to admit, the group evolution is a rare thing in the Pokemon world."

Ash: "Umm...I think we get the point."

why on earth rotten Brock needs a rival for?...
He doesn t fight for medals...no contests, the breeding crap was obviously a dream and the only thing he does is being a horny pokemon encyclopedia...
Bonsly and Greggle are doom to rot in their pokeballs, it´s just fate...
he probably still has marshtomp...he just haven t used it lol

Suzie had the greatest potential for Brock's rival and could of been the easist choice for the writers to work with, but they fucked that up by bringing in that damn Zane guy.

They also lost the chance by bringing him back after whole Ivy fiasso.
