Into the Badlands! Fight, Goomy!!

Heading back towards Lumiose City, Ash and co encounter an injured Spoink. They learn that the Spoink lived nearby but its family have been attacked by a Grumpig who took over the place. Ash decides to help out the Spoink to stop the Grumpig, but they end up falling into a Team Rocket trap. However, Dedenne and Goomy manage to escape, only to find Grumpig waiting for them. Will they be able to stop it?

The episode starts with Spoink bouncing in an pasis, in the Lumiose Badlands.

Two men are having some food by the oasis's lake. One has a Bibarel and one has a Pansage.

A Grumpig arrives in the oasis and starts attacking all of the Spoink.

Grumpig stands still and starts laughing after it finishes attacking the Spoink.

Some people show up from behind the Grumpig.

An injured Spoink bounces away from the oasis.

Ash and co. are having a rest in the Lumiose Badlands.

Goomy is outside of its Pokeball and is sitting on a rock.

Ash decides that Goomy should have a battle, so that Goomy can get stronger.

The Spoink from earlier is watching Ash and co. from behind a cactus, nearby.

Ash uses his Pikachu to battle Goomy.

Goomy uses Rain Dance against Pikachu.

The Spoink starts to crawl towards Ash.

Spoink becomes unconscious.

Spoink then wakes up in a sleeping bad, that someone from the group put Spoink in.

Serena uses her Pokedex on the Spoink.

Spoink tells Ash and co. what causes its injury, so the Spoink takes Ash and co. to the oasis.

Ash and co. stealthily watch Grumpig terrorising the Spoink in the oasis.

Goomy has a flashback to when the Bug Type Pokemon attacked its home.

Ash and co. then confront the Grumpig.

Grumpig uses an attack on all of the Spoink, except for the Spoink that is with Ash and co.

Grumpig's attack makes those Spoink go after Ash and co.

Ash and co. run away until they enter a cave that is in the oasis.

After they enter the cave, a door falls behind them, near the entrance of the cave.

They are now trapped and then Grumpig and Team Rocket show up outside the cave.

Dare Da? Grumpig.

As Ash and co. are trapped in the cave, Team Rocket talk to them.

Team Rocket explain how they tricked them into entering their trap.

The Grumpig uses an attack on the Grumpig and some of them fall over.

Ash asks Pikachu to go out of the cage, since he is so small.

Chespin comes out of his Pokeball and then follows Pikachu.

Pikachu and Chespin purposefully walk into a small cage on the ground that belongs to Team Rocket.

Jessie closes the cage.

Team Rocket are also stealing food from the oasis as well.

Ash asks Goomy to go outside of the cage and then Goomy escapes the cage.

Dedenne also goes outside the cage with Goomy, but Grumpig blocks their bath.

Ash brings Frogadier out and Frogadier uses Water Pulse to try and brake the cage door.

Dedenne fights the Grumpig and then Goomy starts to after having another flashback.

Goomy uses Bide as Grumpig keeps attacking.

The cage door still won't open, so Ash slams against it and he eventually breaks the door down.

He breaks it just in time to stop Grumpig from attack Goomy again.

Ash gets hit by Grumpig's attack.

Goomy sees how determined Ash is and then Goomy starts to evolve.

Goomy has now evolved into Sliggoo.

Sliggoo uses Dragon Breath on Grumpig and Grumpig flies and lands near Team Rocket.

I think Team Rocket criticise Grumpig because Grumpig did a bad job.

Grumpig looks shocked.

Ash and co. then go to where Team Rocket are.

Jessie brings out her Pumpkaboo and James brings out his Inkay.

Pumpkaboo fires Dark Pulse and Inkay fires Psybeam at Ash and co.

Ash then uses his newly evolved Sliggoo to counter with Dragon Breath.

Sliggoo's attack stops Pumpkaboo and Inkay's attacks.

Ash then gets Pikachu to use Thunderbolt on Team Rocket.

Team Rocket then blast off.

Grumpig is lying on the ground crying.

Then the Spoink who was with Ash and co. goes up to the Grumpig and gives Grumpig an apple.

Everything is now okay in the oasis.

Ash and co. head away from the oasis.

Man the animators decided to be like F' it and change the opening (IMO) earlier by spoiling the evolutions that are coming up in this episode as well as subsequent episodes. xD

Surprisingly the ending didn't get updated, but I think it *could* be updated in the coming episodes.

Also Dragon Breath eh? I thought it was Dragon Pulse, but thanks for the confirmation!

Anyhow, to the episode:

- TR came in relatively early into the episode.
- Man Sliggoo was amazingly fast after it evolved, and the Dragon Breath simply screams "serves you right for beating me like a ragdoll earlier". Wrecked face like a bauss
- Clemont's Chespin actually did something useful this time by being able to pick the lock of the small cage he and Pikachu were in.
- Poor Dedenne - tried to help out the best it could, but eventually got KOed. I find it cute that both Dedenne and Goomy went together to try to retrieve the key; their dynamic and relationship came a long way since XY056.
- Ash taking an Iron Tail (?) attack from Grumpig to protect Goomy from taking any more damage. Awww yeee, that's your Ash right there.
- Sliggoo was bigger than I expected to be

This was a standard filler episode, but Goomy's brave attempt to try to help the crew out - and its subsequent evolution - made this episode a decent one to watch. 8/10, on to the next episode!

And for the preview...

Yeah Luxio's confirmed to evolve to Luxray in the next episode.

I hate that goddamn pig so goddamn much. I understood why it was forgiven as it was only manipulated by Team Rocket bloody hell it does not erase the dickery it did.

Anyway, it is a strangely paced episode for me. Didn't really need that small introduction in the beginning with the two wanderers but whatever. I like how the pokemon are all doing their part in helping each other, with Chespin and Pikachu, and Dedenne and Goomy, and of course Frogadier breaking rocks. Loved how Sliggoo uses Dragonbreaht on that damned pig and REKT him but bloody hell it was not enough to sate my hate, and when Team Rocket BTFO it after revealing its plan to the pig, well, it made me feel a little better.

Thus ends the first of three back to back evolution episodes. Luxray here we come!

Also, can anybody confirm to me if Team Rocket referenced Serena's haircut?

My favorite part of this episode is the scene Musashi noticed Serena's hair and asked whether she was heartbroken. Cued the "None of your business!" reply from Serena.

It was an okay episode. Out of all the things they did, Team Rocket did some of the worst things in this episode. And then Grumpig got redemption just like that? Seeing Goomy put up a fight and then evolve was worth. Also a nice plus with Dedenne battling again.

I loved the updated opening!

Well, both. They were pretty evil in this episode. They practically kept hurting the Spoink until Ash gave his Pikachu.

I gotta say, as much as I dislike the repetitiveness of the usage of Volt, it does kinda work everytime. Like after the initial “NOT AGAIN” as it starts it just gets good again as it goes on, it really fits those cool moments imo.

Keep in mind that this opening will most likely be updated again:

- When Sliggoo becomes Goodra.
- When Ash and Clemont have their gym battle.

They'll have to insert new scenes into the opening.

The ending was already updated last week, Serena has short hair in the final shot where she's sleeping. I assume they'll just keep the rest the same since they're dream sequences.

This one was just alright for me. I haven't been keeping up with the spoilers section, so I definitely wasn't expecting the Goomy evolution. If it wasn't for that, it would just be a boring filler episode.

Take a shot every time a spoink should have died from it's heart stoping, I dare ya.

This was an alright epiosde, sliggoo looks kinda awkward in the anime IMO, but then again, I thought the same about Senpai's frogadier. TR were really evil in this episode, and the fact they needed grumpig to do all the dirtywork really just showcases how extremely weak they are compared to Ash and co.

8/10.

Not sure I would call Goomy's evolution a "decent pace" since it normally takes a long time for a Dragon type, let alone one from one of the pseudo legendary lines, to level up and eventually evolve. Plus, this is the 2nd or 3rd time we've actually seen it battle, if you count the two times it fought against Team Rocket. If they wanted to flesh out Goomy's evolutions more, I'd say the writers could've more than evolved it into Sliggoo before the Laverre gym & then wait to have it evolve into Goodra until just before Ash faces the Snowbelle gym
