An Oasis of Hope! (864)

When did they suddenly get to a desert?

Nitpicking aside I really liked this episode, what I especially loved was that they remembered that Ash actually has more than one Pokemon and they gave many characters and Pokemon unique roles suited to each of them. Goomy's the center of the episode, but Clemont got to use his brains, Frogadier shows off his power, Dedenne gets to battle and even Chespin gets to do something useful all the while doing his usual comedy routine.

I am aware of that
I was poking fun at how awkward the area transitions in the game are as well
I cant wait for when they reach Dendemille Town and everything magically turns into an arctic wasteland

MALDREAD
Mal's Weekly Review -

Pros:

* Goomy wanting to train at the start
* Assholish dictator Grumpig was villainous - although it ends up being another misunderstood type
* Goomy's 'Nam Bug Attack flashback comparing to Grumpig ruining the previously idyllic oasis
* TR noticing the haircut
* Trickster Chespin
* Well dang...Dedenne actually lost to Grumpig
* Ash tanking an Iron Tail
* Goomy living up to that bulky/defensive role
* Sliggoo learns a new move

Neutral:

* TR this episode - still clowns but at least they tricked a Grumpig
* Shounen cool Ash single-handedly breaking down cells and tanking Pokemon attacks

Cons:

* Guess the PTSD stuff will be explored later...maybe? Otherwise, so much for the weak and scarred dragonling...
* Saw a bunch of reused stock animation (maybe that was just me)
* Predictable episode
* FFS Volt...

Thoughts:

* So why are there pigs in a desert?
* Love how episode 60 had like 6 pages by this same time last week while this one hasn't even completed the second one

6.5/10

I'm trying to imagine A Clockwork Orange, where they brainwash Malcolm McDowell with a Grumpig, ACO could use a little comedy in it. Man between the Malamars and this Grumpig, who needs AZ's laser??? Just get 'yerself a couple psychic pokemon with s**the attitudes and the world can be your cloyster. At least we had Espurr in 014, so not all psychic types in XY are total scumbags.

the highlight of thsi battle totally is eureka comanding dedene :D
over all 6/10

I think Sliggoo being blind will probably be addressed sometime within the next four episodes before it evolves into Goodra. There wasn't enough time in this episode to delve into that issue anyways.

I dunno. Not only does it not seem blind, it seems to be able to dodge attacks by millimeters. It's quite speedy, which was surprising. Pikachu would have already dodged that blast by Grumpig and moved out of the way. Sliggoo just moves right up almost when it's about to hit, not giving a crap about anything. Plus, sticking to walls is kinda unfair.

It was an enjoyable episode, I liked seeing Bonnie using Dedenne in the style of a proper battle. The Grumpig was pretty strong too, Team Rocket should've tried to capture it.
Ash should try fighting in his pokemons place more often.

The first time since AG that I've watched an episode of Pokemon with my brother.

As good fortune would have it, it's an episode about one of the cutest Pokemon ever: Spoink. It was a fun episode because I like Spoink, but there was nothing really great about it. It was average even with the Gooby's evolution and stuff.

LOL, Team Rocket successfully captured Pikachu! But due to being too greedy they lose Pikachu. I think this is a huge improvement over them losing "just because" like in other episodes.

I am glad that Grumpig got forgiven but it feels like a scene or two was missing. It should have had to do community service or something first because who is to say Grumpig will not go back to misbehaving right as soon as Ash and company turn their backs? Team Rocket did sort of nudge it into doing wrong but it is not like they captured Grumpig, it could have still refused to pick on the Spoinks. Maybe they settled among themselves since we cannot understand pokemon language but it seemed like that conflict was not fully resolved.

What the heck did the dub do to Sliggoo? I thought Goomy's voice was bad compared to the original VA but this, . . . . this is just . . . .my Gosh they ruined Sliggoo's voice entirely!! At this point, I'm now kind of frightened of what Goodra's voice is going to sound like ._.

Hello, unchanged title card with old Serena.

TRio was waaaaay OOC here. I mean, they caged Pikachu and...left him there? What the hell? Are they suffering from desert heat?

Chespin to the rescue! *picks lock for a long while and only unlocks it...right after everyone is freed from the cage*

Pikachu: You could've unlocked it earlier...
Chespin: Screen time is screen time!

I guess Dedenne will never get shown as a strong Pokemon, unlike how Pachirisu and Emolga looked strong before it appeared.

Clemont: Ash, we can escape if we break those rocks!
Ash: Frogadier, break those rocks!
Clemont: Good job, Ash! I'll let you take over while my Luxio gets some rest.
Serena: My Pancham doesn't want to break his glasses!

Way to overpower a simple move like Dragon Breath. Then again, there were only two minutes left for the end of the day...and then it gets a massive loss in power after being used a second time.

Forgiving Grumpig that easy seemed fishy. I like to think the Spoink community made it their ***** behind their backs.

If Spoink's Dex entry was going to be played here, all those Spoink should be dead after they stopped moving. But again, anime logic (and not all Dex entries are taken literally).

Interesting episode, but Team Rocket lost a good opprotunity and derped again.

Sliggoo... I was expecting a different tone of voice. More high pitched and smooth, but that's me. Goomy's voice was fun, but I was almost ready for it to evolve. Hopefully Goodra sounds better.

It was a good episode. I liked Grumpig, he'd have made a good TR Pokemon but no they wanted to ditch him. Don't know how they expected that ballon to carry ALL those berries and the cage with Pikachu and Chespin along with themselves.

Goomy's evolution was awesome, but the VA wasn't that good.

i think Team Rocket was more focused on having food than getting Pikachu which in a way makes sense giving that they are in a desert and would starve :p, this was an ok episode it is awesome seeing a Grumpig and for Goomy evolving already????? wow that was fast

This was a very good episode. Better than the last bunch I've seen the past few weeks.
