And THQ Bites The Dust In The Next Few Weeks

AuraChannelerChris

Easygoing Luxray.
THQ only has a few weeks before its eventual closure.

All of its employees are going to lose their jobs. Luckily, a portion of their company was sold at an auction, but still... They focused many of their efforts on poor products like uDraw, for example. They wasted a LOT of money there, but there are other reasons like shifting their focus from licensed games to their violent games.

...So, does anybody here have fond memories playing their games?

not bad
I remember SPongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom and the Movie Game were both excellent pieces in my childhood mind. Aside from that, not much comes to mind.

Relic (Company of Heroes, Dawn of War) was bought by SEGA.

A lot of other companies have been offering them jobs over Twitter, so I think the employees will be fine.

About THQ itself, I've seen their familiar logo on a lot of childhood games, so this is really too bad.

I can't say I was a fan of most THQ games. I know THQ distributed the Sonic Advance series in North America, but that's just about all the games I have related to them. They did make a decent SpongeBob game that I have on my GBA, though.

I do think this is a bad sign for the video game industry as a whole, though. Mid-sized companies are screwed with just a few slip-ups. It's tough when video game budgets are so high nowadays.

I hope the employees find other work well.

Didn't they make an Atv game for Gamecube? I loved that game, still have it, its sad to see them shutting down.

R.I.P.

It needs a fence.
Man, they published the US version of one favorite games: S.T.AL.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. They didn't make it, they just released it in the US, since the makers are Ukrainian.

Though Metro 2033 looked interesting.

How could I forget that they published the American version of that too (great game by the way). Wait, does that mean... No Metro: Last Light... I'm crushed by this sad bit of news. I'll go sit in the corner and rethink my life...

No, that's not what it means.

Almost all of THQ's assets were purchased. Relic Entertainment (creators of Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War and Company of Heroes) were bought by SEGA, Koch Media (parent company of Deep Silver, the team responsible for Dead Island) bought Volition and Metro, Ubisoft bought THQ Montreal (working on South Park and the Stick of Truth), and Crytek bought Homefront.

The only group that wasn't bought up was Vigil Games - creators of Darksiders.

Gone But Not Forgotten
The only game I have from them is Spongebob: BFBB, one of the few good licensed games.
