And We're Looking at the Same Moon! (1231)

I know its plot, but after all these years we still get the "lets run from the wild pokemon" thing, when they can just clear then like trash mobs with their Pokemon, I guess they don't want to hurt them, but they hurt themselves in the process all the time.

I also don't get with other reserves not having shown up yet, why they were used instead of Spearrow and Ratatta, Staraptor/Unfezant and Lycanroc/Quilava could have filled those roles.
Ikr. Like it's a nitpick I admit, but the running from wild mons thing was kinda annoying. Ash is more than capable of handling them. They definitely didn't need this random fearow to save them

And yeah why the heck weren't his bird mons used???

So guys tbh, I will miss Ash and Pikachu.

When I saw the flashbacks, especially from OG, well I felt like my childhood flashed in front of my eyes. LT Surge episode, iconic Spearow scene, Pikachu fake departure ep.. etc.

The OST was again superb.

I wished that Pokemon never changed and we continued the OG formula. Lets be honest, After Orange Islands Pokemon felt different. These series reminds me constantly how great Pokemon was.

The OST was again atrocious.

I wished that Pokemon changed and we got a new protagonist after OG. Lets be honest, After Orange Islands Pokemon felt same-y. These series reminds me constantly how bottom tier Pokemon was.

PsychoLogical

Black and White, Yin and Yang, Light and Dark.
So uh…it was basically callback galore here.

Obligatory Latias cameo as usual, only that she actually did something. With no one giving a guess that she was around, guess she’s still going to continue stalking :v

this is a Nessa x Sonia stan account ✨
This was a kind of nothing episode but makes me think that Ash never catching a Caterpie (after Kanto) will be a missed opportunity. They're so good at writing filler COTD Caterpies.

santiagus

I watched Pokemon anime for 20 freaking years
So the moon flashbacks where from

-The first episode DUH
-The Surge episode
-Pikachu Goodbye
-Episode 1 of AG
- The Raichu vs Pikachu episode from Sinnoh
-The first Colress episode from BW episode N (Odd choice...)
-The Christmas episode from XY
-The island episode of SM (The 20th annyversary special)
-The final Leon vs Ash episode

It got samey after OG? Try during. It was your basic cycle of meeting a new character or Pokémon, blasting off Team Rocket, and battling gyms (most of which Ash didn't even win legitimately). You may want to take off your rose-tinted glasses.

Despite how people feel, at least seasons like XY, Sun and Moon, and Journeys tried to change up the formula.

(You just said something so weird.)
"And We're Looking at the Same Flashbacks!"

Misty : B-Brock, are you seeing the moon showing...
Brock: Shh, it's gonna show us in the flashbacks for sure.

Being a Snivy fan is pain in this anime, I swear. These episodes aren't enough to give everyone enough limelight.

Looks like the flashback moon was running for too long that Meowth didn't have much time to backstab Pikachu and had to end things on a good note (you all just know he could've backstabbed him if he had more time in the episode).

It's almost like we're seeing how he is a Pokemon Master already as you draw parallels between him now to the start of his journey. But no this is pointless filler supposedly.
Oh, sure, leave out the part where he tried to catch a Pidgey without weakening it first. It'd make him look bad next to Goh.

I get that the whole point of this episode was to show how much Ash has changed in regards to Spearow and Rattata, but let’s be real, I’m pretty sure this isn’t the first time Ash has encountered those specific Pokémon with nostalgia as the intention.

I can see why people are writing this episode off like filler because it’s basically the writers saying “Hey did you guys know that Ash and Pikachu are really really close???! Let’s show some relationship-defining scenes from all of the generations for the umpteenth time because you guys like callbacks!!” And then they throw in a sappy song to fool people into thinking it’s a great episode.

As much as I don’t like Rattata or Spearow, I feel sorry for them in the anime because they seem to only exist to tickle the nostalgia muscle.

I found this episode to be needlessly stretched and sappy that could have been better if we got some more substance; one of the rare moments where Tell don’t Show would actually work. I was of the impression that Pikachu would be with Team Rocket as a whole so we could have at least gotten Jessie and James’ thoughts on Ash and Pikachu, seeing how they’ve been chasing them for so long and watched all of their struggles and triumphs. That’s a perspective I honestly don’t think we’ve gotten. But alas, it’s another Meowth and Pikachu adventure where Pikachu is focused and Meowth is the comic relief.

The only saving grace here was that we got to see some Unovan Pokémon which was a huge relief because it was definitely feeling like another Kanto shill fest. And hey, Latias actually did something.
