Is there any anime that has no craziness, wackiness, or clechies( however you spell it) at all? An anime that's as normal & average as All Grown Up, King of the Hill, & the Boondocks? What about Case Closed & Lupin III?

Lupin maybe but in Detective Conan (Case Closed) the guy turns into a kid and that's not normal.

Ruroni Kenshin has a fair amount of Real-life history as the basis if thats what you mean

The Amazing
Why would you want that... I have enough normal in real life, I don't need it in an Anime ;-;

Monster, Homoculus, Eden, Yokohama Kadashi Kikou, MPD Psycho, Maison Ikkoku, Happy!, Addicted to Curry, GTO(though they have some slight wackyiness, its most school life based), etc.

Check them out as they have more real life base atmosphere.

Berserk has real life atmosphere but its a dark fantasy, so that not what you want.

I'd say Case Closed is pretty close, if you take out that Jimmy turns into little Conan. All the ones that That Scary Clefairy posted work out too =3

BlueFlameCharizard

The Original Shiny Pokemon
Let's see:

Great Teach Onizuka (GTO for short) (althought it is a little wacky at times like someone above said)
Princess Nine
Hikaru No Go! (for everything except for Sai)
Initial D
Prince of Tennis
Grave of the Fire Flies (Very very sad anime, just to warn you)

Truth is, there is a crap load of reality/ serious themed animes out there that not just pure fanservice, wackyiness, cliche, and etc. Just research out there and you'll find some great ones.

It just that most people here only posted the "stereotyped" anime series and almost have no clue of realistic based series.

Lesse here:

Boys Be (One of my favorites....so sad.)
Hajime no Ippo (also called Knockout)- I guess it's based on reality, but sometimes the punches these guys deliver is almost super-human :O
You're Under Arrest
Love Hina

Hmm.....I'll try thinking of more later...

Love Hina is just overrided with Fanservice with no plot what-so-ever It just another harem series. It has no reality atmosphere and theme to it.

I beg to differ Scary Clefairy. It does have a plot if you get rid of some of the zaniness. If you read the manga you'll have much more of a plot. Moreover it would be more based on real life if all the crazy stuff in the series wasn't all make believe.

The two anime that I know of that are definitely based on reality are Piano and Boys Over Flowers. Trust me, there are a few anime that are definitely based on reality. If you think about it, not all anime are meant to be completely make-believe.

What about Patlabor & IGPX? I think those count. Just think of them as advanced technology of the future.

And I've seen Grave of the Fireflies twice. I didn't even know Japan burns the body into ashes after it becomes a lifeless corspe(however you spell that.)

I have read the manga before, and to be honest, the plot isn't any more unique or even realistic like as to something like Maison Ikkoku and such. The no realistic atmosphere when reading Love Hina(maybe not to you).

Try comparing a realistic like manga like Monster to Love Hina and you'll see what I mean.

Also it the zaniness, and overrided fanserivice that turned off many people yet popular to the ignorance. Love Hina hardl have a plot unlike some of the series I listed like Monster, Kuroshiya 1, MPD Pyscho, Levithian, etc.

That still doesn't rinse Love Hina of the campy baggage the original poster wanted out from his list of recommendations. Naru punching Keitaro into orbit? Koalla Suu's impossible machines? Motoko's cliche samurai attacks?

The original poster definitely would not want to watch Love Hina in light of his outlined tastes.

Going back to the original topic, I'd like to suggest the Area 88 anime that ADV films is gradually putting out on DVD. Area 88 is basically an anime about a bunch of pilot mercenaries fighting in the fictional nation of Aslan. It's chock full of breathtaking and wonderfully choreographed dog fights.

I own only two volumes of it but so far, I can say that it's pretty damn good, including the dub.
