Anime Cliches

Cliche - an over-used term or concept by which a storyline is advanced.

With this, if you can think of any cliches used in Anime, go ahead and post them here. Remember, cliches don't have to be true for ALL Animes. I'll get us started.

Oversleeping (Ash Rule)

A case where the hero of the show will begin the first episode by oversleeping and have to be woken up by his or her mother and reminded that he or she is late for an important appointment.

Oversleeping Can Be Good (Sailor Moon's First Day Conundrum)

If a main character ever oversleeps in the first episode, one of two things will happen. Either the character will arrive at their destination late, in which case they'll get reprimanded and come into their power during the reprimand, OR they'll come into their power on the way to their destination. All other events will take place as normal.

The War Political Dependence (First Relation Between War and Politics)

If there is a war of ANY kind, there will always be politics involved in the Anime, if only to confuse the viewer.

Logan's Run Mk. 2 (The Naruto Rule)

Anime characters, especially main heroes, are usually young. The average age seems to be between 12 and 16, though it can often get below 10. As a rule, the younger a main hero is, the more power that hero will end up coming into. As a corollary, any person over 18 will either be a hardened Samurai warrior, or consider themselves washed up and be more than happy to make room for the 'new generation'.

Cuddler's Law (First Law of Adorability)

The cuter a creature is, the more important it is to the story. If said creature ever sings in the show, it is extremely important to the story. Thusly, it will become the target of just about every faction's plans.

Cute Looks Kill (Second Law of Adorability)

Small and cute will ALWAYS win out over big and ugly. This is especially true if the small, cute creature doesn't seem to have any powers, whatsoever.

Eye See You

As a rule, the eyes of the average female Anime character must take up no less than a third of her face.

Rule of Missiles

There is never just one missile. There will always be a swarm of missiles. As a corrolary, the more missiles there are aimed at the hero, the less likely he or she is to be hit. However, if only one missile or missile weapon is fired at the hero, that weapon will be 100 percent accurate, and often cause a serious, or fatal injury.

That should do it for now. What can you come up with? You don't have to name them if you don't want to. I just want to see how many of these we can come up with.

The Law of Headgear-Every anime hero/ine usually has at least one piece of headgear, which may or may not include caps, bandannas, and hats

The Law of Hair:
Just about all anime characters have abnormal (sometimes spikey) hair. Sometimes in unnatural colors, such as blue, green, purple, or white.

And if they don't, it's always at the end of the series.

From what I've heard, that is.

The main character tends to have spiky hair, I've noticed.

Law of Non-physics
All action anime MUST break the laws of physics atleast once.

Law of Hero Hyperactivity/Activeness (The Jaden Rule):
All main characters (or heros) will be hyperactive or extremelly active. Mostlly, they are adventurous, curious, and they yell annoying cheesy lines.

The Law of Cool Characters:
Every anime will have at least one loner, cool character who acts badass. They are usually followed around by a annoying character, mostlly a spunky girl who is in love with the cool character. Usually, they carry swords.

The Law of Fighting

The enemy is never above, to the left or to the right of you, they always come from below, no matter how you're fighting or with what. >_>;;; It's weird that anime characters have yet to discover this.

Law of Inverse Physics

Let's face it. Physics do not apply. People get thrown or blasted hundreds of miles away on a regular basis. Despite this, they seem to easily get back to where the action is either in a few moments, or by no later than the next episode.

Relation Between Death and Life

Nobody is exempt from death. Nobody is exempt from revival either. If a character absolutely necessary to the story gets killed, there'll always be a way to bring them back. If not, they either already served their purpose, or weren't that important after all.

Rule of Disguised Villains (Team Rocket's First Escape Clause)

No matter how obvious the disguise, the main heroes will never realize those two peddlers are their arch enemies.

The Hero's Selective Paralysis (Edward Rule)

Villains do terrible things. Really terrible things. Regardless of how terrible these things are or how infuriating they are, any hero near a villain performing them will stand there like a moron and do nothing, often until it is too late. Sometimes changing the channel is best, because I've seen how mad people can get.

The Overly Drawn Out Plot (DBZ's Conundrum)

Any task with relevence to the storyline, regardless of how trivial it is, will take up no less than 3 episodes.

Evil's Hates Five (Queen Beryl's Curse)

Any major villain, regardless of how powerful they are, regardless of their ability to wipe out an entire magical kingdom, can easily be defeated by five teenage girls.

On Behalf Of The Overly Used Dramatic Speech

Many heroes have speeches they have to spout off in the beggining of any fight. Regardless of the length of the speech, the enemy will always stand there like a moron, waiting for said hero to finish talking.

It Was Here All Along

No matter what the hero is searching for, it will always be in the last place they look.

Obviously it'd be in the last place they look, why would they continue looking for something after they found it?

Law of Transformation:
The main character gets his transformation first or rarely second.

Laws of Hair, part II: The laws of physics do not apply to hair. In addition, characters with boring(AKA "normal") hairdos are less likely to be important to the story, whereas characters with strange, complex hair typically are.

Law of Annoucement: Whenever an attack is used in a fighting anime, whether it be Naruto, Pokemon, DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, One Piece, or any other, its name must be said beforehand. Furthermore, no character ever uses the time their attacker spends saying the attack to get out of its way, or to react to it in any manner other than making comments like "No...", "You can't!", and "You'll never get away with this!"

Law of Disguise: Any disguise, no matter how obvious or ridiculous, will never been seen through...unless the story calls for it. A perfect example of this law in action is Team Rocket from Pokemon.

Law of Demon Heritage: Whenever a human is any part demon, it's always the father's(or some other male in the family's) fault. Always. (at least, I have yet to see it otherwise...)

Law of Alignment-flipping: There will almost always be at least one character in the series who goes from good to bad, or vice versa. Most of the time, it's an evil character becoming good.

Law of Facelessness: If a mecha's pilot has no name or any distinct features, they're cannon fodder. Said pilots will never affect the plot in any way, other than creating the illusion that there might important things happening that don't involve the main characters.
