Anime-Haters

Is your school Anti-Anime? Or is your family?

My school is Anti-Anime. I swear you wear a shirt or keychain and instantly people are all over you "Eeew you like Japan stuff, weirdo" or start speaking gibberish, acting like they're Japanese. My dad will do that to me too. God it is so frickin' annoying. At least anime has some plot, unlike half the crap on TV here in the USA (Reality Shows for example). And besides, we use computers and cars from Japan, so these people need to STFU. My friends like anime though, so its not like I'm alone

As I said before, my dad and my little brother will pretend to speak Japanese (They'll list Japanese companies, like that kid in Scary Movie 4) and I get P.O. at them. My parents ask me (Mostly my dad, my mom doesn't care that I watch anime) "Why do you watch that Japanese crap?" or "The Japanese are trying to convert you". At least anime has plot and will have some swearing in it. Face it parents, kids swear. Even if you do take it out of a show, kids are still going to hear it somewhere. [/endrant]

Don't get me wrong, I like some of the stuff on TV (Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends, Law & Order, Family Guy, and more), but some people still make fun of anime just because it's not from America.

So, does anyone else have a similar situation?

I have similar situation with my parents. They aren't fond of animes. They said that they're for kids. I said since when do most animes contains volience and weapons such as guns? *sigh* They'll never understand...

I'm afraid of showing signs of my anime obsession in public, which it might affect my reputation and I just moved to another school.

That's another problem I have too. I won't say anything about anime at school unless I'm around my friends, because I just want people to leave me alone. I'm not bugging them, so why do they have to bug me? One of friends doesn't care about what other people think and will wear anime shirts and talk about in public. I wish I could be like her.

My school is full of what Id call morons. But I wouldnt be afraid to showcase stuff to my freinds but as to the other dreaded abos and tongans of my now unfortunate area I wouldnt even do a thing.I wish these people could go away!

PS:perhaps you should change the name of this thread to say something like
"Do you get bagged for liking anime?"
,because at first I thought this place was for people who hated anime.

And the crap you find on normal tv is any more mature? I don't understand stuff like that (I blame 4kids).

Anyway, in my school, anime is considered a gothy, girls thing. The only anime boys can like without any crap is FMA, and even then you have to be one of those goth wannabe's (like with the girls but FMA only) with peircings, all black clothes, and an "I hate the world" attitude if you don't want any of the idiots to say stuff.

At least my family really doesn't care, except on occasions my mom will make jokes about tiny bits of it (such as kenshin's way of talking or chakra from naruto), but its not as much of a hate thing as a trying to be funny/torment my sister who hates any type of fun thing.

In high school, I had a kid make fun of me for liking anime. But, luckily, I met a girl who loved anime, and we became best friends. And all because I wore my Evangeleon shirt to school.

Really, for me, I always had one annoying boy who made fun of anime. But my friends and I just ignored them.

My dad is the only one to not like something of anime. He'll watch it. He just doesn't like the music. He finds it annoying. ¬¬ I find the music he listens to annoying, so it all works out.

They're allowed to think the things you like are crap, and if you obsess they have the right to make fun of you.

Maybe in your mind.. but in mine, I don't think anyone has a right to make fun of anyone, no matter what.. it's just damaging to the person.

Well, my parents don't care, they except I like anime and all that, except once when I brought FMA DVDs (they had a 15 thing on them) but like I had no ID card so my sister brought them for me using hers but my parents were like "wtf kind of cartoon has a 15 age rating?".

My school just doesn't care, but it isn't widely popular round my area anway so :p

My old school liked anime, and even had an anime club

Not too sure about what my college thinks, but from what I can tell, most of the people in college don't care what you like, they're just there for an education and such

At home, my mom tells me to grow up, and stop watching shows for little kids. I would try to explain to her that most anime isn't for kids, but she'd just ignore that aspect :D

It's sad, most of the "grown up" kids around here do drugs, have sex, get pregnant, and other crap. And yet my mom tells me to grow up, pssh haha.

shove it up ya bum!
Your parents think watching Japanese television will convert you? If that happened then Australians would be American!

I got criticised for wearing a retro Astro Boy shirt (I'm ot really a fan, it just looked cool). Even thought there are chicks that have Astro Boy school bags (from the new anime by the way, which is kind of different) everyone was like 'You like Astro Boy!? Isn't that one of those retard Japanese cartoons for babies?". Ofcourse, I told them to shove it up their a*s.

Also I got criticised in art for drawing manga. It was our first class and to show the teacher what level we were at we were supposed to draw a cartoon, preferably one of the human form. Obviously I thought of manga because it's probably one of the most accurate forms of cartoon in terms of anatomy. The teacher then asked me why I chose to do Japanese style cartoons and everyone started to think I was weird and called me Japanese! Once again I told them to shove it up their a*s but it's still rather annoying.

Couldnt agree with you more DriveshafT.

I remember once my younger brother going off telling me to grow up for watching pokemon.I yelled at him, then still watched my beloved show.
Oh and I found out alot of the people who went off at me at school for liking pokemon somehow magically got the hands on sapphire and ruby and wanted my jirachi.

Well, I suppose that I am lucky. My dad is not really that bothered at the fact that i watch anime, just the amount of time I spend watching it. My mum couldnt really care less.

My college is how i got into manga. I had never read amnga before I saw them in the college library, and I had never really thought about anime before that. Now I am hooked. I think that it is suprising how many people actually watch anime if it is mentioned. Also, my college had a display board up about anime and manga, and there are never any volumes of the manga in the library, I suppoose that shows how much people like them.

i have the same proboblem as you blood bountou, but the proboblem with my school is they all think anime is only rated G and PG, i tell them there are anime shows rated pg-13(inuyasha) and R(ghost in the shell i think) and even X(hentia) and they're like 'suuuuuuuure, i totaly believe you'

Well, when I was at school a lot of people would make fun of me for liking Anime. They would say things like "alright Pokémon master" or "Pokémon/Yu-Gi-Oh is gay" they only would ever know anything other than those. But rather than hide it I would broadcast my opinion, use the fact that I liked Anime wereever I could. I am obsessed yes, however after three years of having fun poked at me it stopped and people began to see that they would never change me. In college I do the same. People don't make fun of me there really for liking it, its more "why do you like it so much?" but not said in words. As for my family, they don't care. Infact whenever they see a video or DVD in a charity shop or something they'll buy it for me.

My school is extremely anti-anime. I'm viewed as a failure at life by just about everyone in that place *is a loner*. There is one kid that I can seriously talk about anime with so needless to say he's a good friend of mine. My family isn't anti-anime, but my parents refuse to watch it or have any part of it. They leave me be though. My little brother isn't into anime quite as much as me but he watches it and thinks it's cool too.
