Another death because of a game.

You can bet that Jack Thompson will be after Devil may cry soon, look:

http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2006040268,00.html

A TEENAGER obsessed with a killer video game was yesterday found guilty of murdering his sister by torching his home in a twisted bid to slaughter his entire family.

The 16-year-old — who modelled himself on a half-human/half-demon PlayStation 2 character — also hit his brother with an axe leaving him brain-damaged.

The lad always wore black Goth clothes and called himself Dante after the killer character in 15-rated game Devil May Cry, the Old Bailey heard.

He launched the arson attack to rid himself of his family in the hope he would be adopted by a rich couple.

The boy — who was 14 at the time — outlined his plan in a note found by police. It read: “Operation New Life. Kill family. Lose memory. Get adopted by rich couple. It all starts.”

Violent ... Devil May Cry game
Violent ... Devil May Cry game

He axed his 12-year-old brother before starting the blaze in Lewisham, South London.

His parents and 16-year-old sister escaped but his 11-year-old sister died of smoke inhalation.

At first the lad lied that a gunman told him to carry out the attack.

Sir Allan Green, prosecuting, said the boy wrote a reminder to cut himself to make it look like “a demon had done it”.

Yesterday a jury convicted him of his sister’s murder by a 10-2 majority. He was also found guilty of attempting to murder his brother and arson with intent to endanger life.

His family — who stuck by him — said he was “a bit of a loner”. He was remanded in custody for pre-sentence reports.

Last night pressure group Mediawatch accused the games industry of “living in denial” of the consequences of their products.

What an idiot.....

The kid's a goth and lives in a fantasy land. That alone should be evident enough that games had nothing to do with it. :s

*sigh* This is probably one of the reasons why there are ratings for video games. I feel bad for how video game stores just sell games that are rated M to kids my age.

Can't blame the game, though...if you read the plan, the game had nothing to do with it, okay? Stop blaming the games!

He just wanted to live with rich people, that's all...and he was probably a bit depressed...

THERE'S NO $50 HERE!
Wow... I mean, WOW.

You can't pinpoint this on the videogame industry as the source and cause for this though.

That kid was fudged up to begin with. Just like the two kids who killed poor little Jamie Bulger (and instead of accepting the demonic nature of untamed children with some fufilled needs from home, also decided to blame it on a popular media. That would be the movie Child's Play).

Also, very little rich people adopt kids (unless "daddy" is either a eunuch, in the closet trying to cover it up like a certain Scientologist jerkoff or just can't produce enough baby batter to bake one in "mommy's" oven). Especially goth-types who fly off the handle. That crap is make believe.

Capcom deserves no heat from this, nothing in their games promotes arsony, wanting to live with rich parents or leads to insanity and Dante uses a SWORD not an axe.

Should Jack get involved, that heartless Grinch can burn in hell for all I care.

If kids had problems from the start, keep the games out of it.

Parents, keep this in mind, a seed of worry can become a forest of problems.

THAT KID WAS PROOF OF IT!

The game had nothing to do with it. The kid had problems, in fact, games probably helped him cope with his problems but apparently not enough. Hypothetically, the kid may have disliked school, for example, and decided to kill himself. But we're not hearing from protestors: "School causes nothing but problems".

Actually, no one said anything about games having to do with any of it...Ed was just pointing out that the games couldn't/can't be blamed for this...and I didn't notice that till now...

Anyone who is demented enough to hit his brother was an axe, and set his own house ablaze should'nt be playing videogames like that. I'm not blaming the game industry. I'm blaming the parents. They should have realized that their son was not responsible enough to play Devil May Cry, or any violent game. Sure the game inspired him, but who knows how long he has had these plans.

You're blaming the game. He was 14 at the time when he made the plan. He probably got the game after the plan was made.

I withdraw reluctantly.
When I read this title, I thought this was some seizure related deal, but since I read the article, I learned that this is a guy who was already insane becoming more insane.

And even if he began to be violent after he played the game, he would be crazy not through the game, but because he was already crazy. Games don't make people do bad things, people make themselves do bad things.

Exactly. *gives him a pat on the back*

Wow, are you sure this is true? 0_o Because that kid has issues. He probably was messed up before he started playing the game. If you're dumb enough to think you can do the same thing a game character can, you have issues. Oh yeah, I'm going to jump around squashing turtles and eating mushrooms! No, better, I'll grab a toy sword and put on a green hat and "rescue" the girl next door! No, better, I'll paint myself blue, spike my hair, and run around the block while stomping on tin cans! Or maybe I'll put on a space suit and go around whacking bugs with carrots!

Seriously, if someone's messed up enough to do that, they were screwed up in the first place.

Braaiiiiiinss......
That. Really. Fricking. Stupid. RETARD!

Operation New Life.

Kill family.
Think you can get away with murder? THINK AGAIN!

Lose memory.
Impossible at your age.

Get adopted by rich couple.
There's too small of a chance of this ever happening.

It all starts.
When your *** is in jail.

-----------Meanwhile, in another topic-----------

If his parents haven't bought him the game and know he hated them, none of this stupid crap would've happened.

This is stupider crap than stupid kids doing stupid illegal crap because they stupidly learned it in San Andreas.

How stupid.

-----------Meanwhile, in another topic-----------

A Goth kid, inspired by Devil May Cry, calling himself Dante, planned to kill his family and lose his memory, so he could get adopted by a rich family, axed his brother and causing him brain damage, and set his house on fire that killed his sister when she inhaled the smoke from the fire.

How sad. /..\

WHAAAAAAHHHHHYYYYYY!?

That person obviously had mental issues. Videogames can influence people with mental issues - but parents should take the responsibility of allowing/not allowing certain games for their kids to play.

Videogames & their makers shouldnt be blamed for bad parenting.

Ofcourse I wait to read the next remark from Jack Thompson after hearing his ******* prickness a few days ago about that kid on Metalgearsolid.org who committed suicide due to depression, financial issues, etc.

Exactly my thought. And exactly what I'd say..

He was demented to begin with. He had serious issues to think he can just get away with attempted murder of his entire family, to think a "demon" did it, and be "adopted by a rich family."

Fantasy, loner boy.. who has serious issues with his sanity / mentality. :/

For sure, the games cannot be blamed. One can blame the parents for not watching the kid do that, but one can also say it may just be the kid's brain. But one thing is certain: it is NOT the games fault.

Its from a newspaper company in the UK.

Indeed he did have problems, I don't think that they should blame a game when this obviously has close to nothing to do with the game....

I don't think it has anything to do with age, more with his mentally, I can't remeber but I am sure I watched/played games that were above 15 of age when I was like 14 (I stay away from that stuff when I was 12, when i was 10 I hadn't played a game before once before it gave me a horible headache)

Ready to lose???
I think its safe to say that the guy was insane and that the game just brought about his 'evil plots' earlier in his life. He probably would have commited these crimes when he was say 26 years old. Poor family...
