• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

Another Failure

Le gasp!
So this is the second OU team I've made, and I like it a lot but it doesn't win very often; either because of the team or because I suck at strategizing. The basic idea is to cause as much damage as possible in the beginning to set Clefable up to sweep. Any help would be appreciated!

Whimsicott@Leftovers
Prankster
252 Def/248 Sp Def/8 Spd
Jolly Nature
-Encore
-Stun Spore
-U-turn
-Taunt
So this is pretty obvious. A standard Whimsicott set, I lead with him, Taunt my opponent so he or she can't lead with traps or screens, paralyze him or her with Stun Spore, Encore if they've used a move I'd like to see repeated, otherwise U-turn out of there and send in one of my other Pokemon. Thanks to its defense it can survive being hit by even Draco Meteor, but sometimes it doesn't last as long as I'd like.

Clefable@Toxic Orb
Magic Guard
4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly Nature
-Belly Drum
-Facade
-Fire Punch
-Softboiled
I really love this Clefable. Once it gets set up it's insanely strong, with Facade even killing things like Magnezone if they've been weakened beforehand. Even if I don't get the chance to Belly Drum, it's still a force to be reckoned with. Softboiled keeps me healthy, and Toxic Orb is for Facade, plus it protects me from other scary statuses like Paralysis and Burn. Clefable is my late-game sweeper but it's very hard to get set up since I can't use my Chandelure with Shadow Tag in OU yet.

609.png

Chandelure@Leftovers
Shadow Tag
4 HP/252 Sp Atk/252 Spd
Modest Nature
-Shadow Ball
-Wil-O-Wisp
-Fire Blast
-Memento
Before I get started on Chandelure I have two questions: Will Chandelure with Shadow Tag be in OU once it's released in Dream World? And are status effects still there when a Pokemon switches out, like if I use Memento on a Dragonite and it switches will its attack stats still be down by two?
So now this guy... He's really quite weak for most of the time, and dies a lot, although that's mostly because I kill him with Memento because I'm a jerk. What I'd like is to use him with Shadow Tag in OU so I can set up Clefable but right now I have to use Flash Fire, which really isn't as good for what I'm doing. Shadow Ball and Fire Blast are STAB, Will-O-Wisp burns, which couples really nicely with Memento.

91.png

Cloyster@King's Rock
Skill Link
252 Atk/48 Sp Atk/208 Spd
Jolly Nature
-Shell Smash
-Icicle Spear
-Rock Blast
-Surf
Cloyster is so awesome, and even though this is also a standard Cloyster set I love the flinch hax I get with King's Rock. Sometimes Cloyster winds up being my last Poke and I've been able to Icicle the opponent to death thanks to the flinches. This guy is pretty self-explanatory. I use Shell Smash to boost my speed, although I frequently forgo that part because of how frail Cloyster is. Icicle Spear and Surf are STAB moves and Icicle Spear gets awesome thanks to Skill Link. Rock Blast is for coverage against things like Volcarona.

620.png

Mienshao@Life Orb
Regenerator
252 Atk//4 Sp Atk/252 Spd
Naughty Nature
-Swords Dance
-Drain Punch
-Payback
-Hidden Power (Ice)
Another standard set, Mienshao with the Life Orb is pretty scary. Swords Dance makes it even scarier. Drain Punch keeps me healthy and can allow me to stall, and Payback hits Gengar so hard it's not even funny. HP Ice takes care of Dragons if my Cloyster is dead, as well as grass types like Serperior.

472.png

Gliscor@Toxic Orb
Poison Heal
252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
Adamant Nature
-Aerial Ace
-Swords Dance
-Earthquake
-Thunder Fang
And the last Pokemon on my team is Gliscor. The Toxic Orb is for its Poison Heal and keeps it from getting other statuses (although once I switched in Glisocr on a Will-O-Wisp... That was infuriating). Aeriel Ace and Earthquake both give me STAB, and Swords Dance sends my attack to crazy-high levels. Thunder Fang murders Vaporeons and Gyaradoses who think that they've got me cornered, and its paralysis bonus is always nice when it happens.

Cloyster-use ice shard/razor shell instead of surf. Razor shell for STAB.Ice shard for priority
.I think.Kings Rock is banned. Go with Focus sash/White Herb. Focus sash to ensure shell smash. white herb to regain back defenses
Mienshao-Naive: Drain punch/HJK, fake out, uturn,HPice. I dont find payback useful since it will only deal little damage and it is fast. Speed>power IMO. And fake out to break sashes and sturdy
Gliscor- Impish: Protect/Taunt,SD,EQ,Facade/Ice fang

Mr. BrickaBracka

Once more I live!!
Conkeldurr would make a good replacement for mienshao as it can use an almost identical set while also being a status absorber and physical tank, and your team lacks any kind of defense. Plus its payback gets the boost a lot more often. I know offense is the objective, but if you can have both, why not?

Also Shadow tag chandelure is illegal in OU I pretty sure.

Cloyster definitely needs a focus sash or white herb like espeon said.

Gliscor could use taunt over thunder fang since conkeldurr can benefit from vaporeon's attempts to inflict status and use drain punch to steal some of that massive HP while cloyster's rock blast should sufficiently handle gyarados. yeah whimsiscott has taunt, but your whole team has non-attacking moves somewhere and clefable in particular is hurt by phazing so an extra taunter is more helpful I would think.

Whimsicott@Leftovers
Prankster
252 Def/248 Sp Def/8 Spd
Jolly Nature
-Encore
-Stun Spore
-Substitute
-Leech Seed

Leech Seed is key for Whimsicott and it also does quite well with Substitute. Personal preference but with no EVs in HP, a Big Root works better in some cases.

Clefable@Toxic Orb
Magic Guard
4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly Nature
-Belly Drum

Don't like it in anyway. Also, I think Magic Guard and Softboiled are illegal together.

609.png

Chandelure@Leftovers
Flash Fire
4 HP/252 Sp Atk/252 Spd
Modest Nature
-Shadow Ball
-Substitute
-Fire Blast
-Pain Split

I use Timid nature due to the demand for speed this generation but Modest nature is fine. I would try out a Substitute Pain Split strategy.

Cloyster@Expert Belt or White Herb
Skill Link
252 Atk/48 Sp Atk/208 Spd
Naive Nature
-Shell Smash
-Icicle Spear
-Rock Blast
-Surf

Since you're using a special attack, use Naive nature. Get rid of King's Rock, the chance you'll get the foe to flinch is only 40%. If you want a good flinch strategy, go with Togekiss. As for your item, use either Expert Belt or White Herb depending on your preference.

620.png

Mienshao@Life Orb
Regenerator
252 Atk/4 Sp Atk/252 Spd
Naive Nature
-Fake Out
-Hi Jump Kick
-U-turn
-Hidden Power (Ice)

Again, use a speed boosting nature due to the demand for speed. Hi Jump Kick is a much better move. U-turn will make Mienshao switch out, constantly reactivating Regenerator healing Life Orb and entry hazard recoil. On top of that, you can keep getting free hits with Fake Out.

472.png

Gliscor@Toxic Orb
Poison Heal
252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
Jolly Nature
-Aerial Ace
-Swords Dance
-Earthquake
-Thunder Fang

Nothing to say here except that you might want to try out a Fling Acrobatics set. Although not as great as some other sets, it can deal quite a bit of damage. Mine uses and EV spread of 252 HP / 100 SpD / 156 Spe with an Impish nature and knows the moves Fling, Acrobatics, Swords Dance, and Dig. Other wise, a fine set but I would use Jolly nature rather than Adamant and maybe consider Roost alongside Ice Fang.

I'll answer this since no one else has yet. If the Dragonite switches after memento, the drop in it's attack stats goes away. If it is burned by Will-o-Wisp, the burn and it's attack lowering affect will stay on Dragonite. Statuses carry over on switches, stat changes don't . However, it is not necessarily a bad thing if your opponent switches after you use Memento, as that gives you a free turn to set up Shell Smash or Belly Drum, but I would suggest using a faster Belly Drummer than Clefable.

Alright, so I'll try running Garachomp's Mienshao set. I tried running your Whimsicott set before, Gara, but it never worked very well. I've had much better success with my current Whimsi set. And Clefable can't have Magic Guard and Softboiled at the same time, it's impossible, you're right. I don't know why PO and Serebii's POTW didn't catch that.
I'll also try using the Focus Sash on Cloyster so I can get the Shell Smash, although I may try White Herb instead. And Razor Shell, forgot about that one. I'll have to replace Clefable's Softboiled with Drain Punch, so I can get some healing. I'll also try Ice Fang instead of Aerial Ace and Facade instead of Thunder Fang on Gliscor. I'll try this out but I may end up replacing Clefable altogether with an electric type.

Instead of Mienshao, conkeldurr.

Conkeldurr @life orb
evs: 252 atk/252 def/4 hp
Guts/iron fist
~Mach Punch
~Drain Punch
~Earthquake
~Stone Edge
Mach/Drain stab, drain for healing, earthquake and edge for coverage. I suggest either Guts or Iron Fist cause you have two punching moves 20+ power or guts in case you get thundah waved/poisoned. I'd go for guts but it's your choice. LO is best or you could scarf it, but repeated drain punch would be bad

Actually, Clefables can legitamately get Softboiled and Magic Guard. 50% of Clefairies, when migrated, will evolve into a Magic Guard Clefable with the traditonal Moon Stone. Teach a Clefairy Softboiled, migrate it and it may evolve into a Magic Guard Clefable.

Anyway, yeah, use his Mienshao. It's the standard for a reason.
