Any Linux Users? I Want Some Advice

I've been using Fedora for over a year now, first FC4, now FC5. And I'm really getting fed up with it.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great distro. I love how much STUFF it has, I love that I know my way around it...

It's just that I'm getting sick of fiddling with it all the time.

Why is Fedora the only major distro that doesn't have a workaround for OSS (as in the audio handler, not Open-Source Software) applications? I know that (K)Ubuntu has a workaround to make Flash audio work (I think it uses alsa-oss, which was discontinued for Fedora a long time ago, and when I compile it myself it hangs whenever I run it), and the same workaround will make Audacity function correctly (I just learned last night that Audacity is NOT ALSA-capable... WTF).

This is just one of many little things that bother me. KDE seems like it's partially broken as well, but that's another story.

I'm considering moving from Fedora Core 5 to Kubuntu 6.06.1, but I want other thoughts on the matter. Is it a wise move for me? Will it be easier on my laptop's system resources than Fedora Core 5 is? How is power management?

I want someone to convince me to back up all my stuff, move off of Fedora Core 5, and get into Kubuntu 6.06.1.

Thanks.
