Anyone else the female Psuedo Rivals need more personality?

Also, I'd really like someone to try and point out how the D/P/P rival is boring. I mean seriously, the main thing most people seem to hate him for is because he "has too much energy" (despite the fact that the trait seems to be genetic, seeing how his father is also rather energetic) and "too nice". Seriously, people don't want a rival to be nice?

Have people forgotten what the word even means anymore?

Rival - definition - a peer that equals or matches your talents and pushes you to be better.

Personality aside, I haven't this way seen RBY/GSC. That being sai I don't agree with your statement for one reason. Its not that people need a mean rival, though that would be awesome. Its more like we were all sorta still noobish back then and felt it difficult to beat them and adapted to their personality. Because of this we downplay our new rivals because in reality they've become weak compared to what are noobish selves remember. As for psuedo-rivals, they are suppose to be lame and friendly. I doubt Blue or Silver is going to randomly give you an item cause he respects you.

Some of you need to look back and play Red/Blue again.

Blue was very similar to Barry/Pearl/Jun. Both are friendly, a bit excited, and want to be better than you. Blue is more cocky, but does change a bit in the three years between RBY and GSC. Silver, on the other hand, is cruel pretty much all the way through, except for the last battle. BTW, this is from a decade ago. Now we know that he didn't want to join his father's team rocket, and that he is Giovanni's son. No one thought of that a decade ago, however. And he's still a total jerk. He kicks you, for crying out loud!

Silver was the cruel guy, Blue was conceited yet friendly, in his own, smelly little way.

Back on topic.

I am playing through Emerald as May, after a Saphire and previous Emerald runthroughs. Boy, there's a huge difference between May and Brenden. I literally thought after the first couple of times meeting Brenden, "wow, Brenden actually has personality! o.o;".

I agree, the girl pseudo-rivals (only in R/S/E and DPt in the English language, are the PC you didn't play with) are lame compared to the male ones. Need more personality, and just saying, "hi, here's an item" isn't personality, you smart alecks.

You're right. The female pseudo-rivals are very lame compared to the male ones. The females just wander around and occasionally go up to you and say "Hey there! Here's an item. I have to work on my Pokedex. Bye!" while the male ones actually have a kind of "conversation" with your character.

I like May's helpful and cheerful personality, but I think she needs more pep and a tomboyish attitude. Just look at the way she dresses, she's like a tomboy for me. Dawn is girly, but somehow dull. You know the similarities? THEY LIKE CUTE POKEMON (sorry for the caps, folks.)

I want a female Psuedo rival who is unique. Kinda tomboyish, not fond of cute Pokemon, poised, and sorta cool and tough at the same time, don't you agree?

We didn't get to see her in action, but I believe she has this personality that the others lack.

The reason they girls have a flat personality is because, let's face it, they're just there to prevent a temporal paradox that should arise during the "are you a boy or a girl?" part of the game.

But if the anime is aimed at young boys I wonder why we have male flat characters like Brock, Kenny, etc.

I shall attempt to describe May and Dawn's personality:

The docile, sweet lab assistant eager to complete the pokedex and help you complete your pokedex too. She hopes you'll become a good friend of hers, and cheers for you as you parade through (insert region's name here).


Really, I don't understand why people want May and Dawn to have a personality that is less nice and supportive and more competitive and tough. She's a PSEUDO-rival. That's what a pseudo-rival does. Especially when you're working alongside her in completing a pokedex. As associates in completing the pokedex, she's bound to be helpful and nice, isn't she? She's not "flat" at all. I bet there's much more to May and Dawn than just that, but she's not your true rival, so you wouldn't know as much. I don't think you're supposed to see her that often as your real rival.

The problem is that the games never really give much personality at all; that job lies to the various adaptions.

Take May.

In the game, she's very cheerful.

In the anime, she's the same, only she apparently is a freak of nature concerning her breast size.

In the manga, she's a very tsundere wildchild, and she actually looks like a 10 year old.
