Anyone finding the Frontier Brains > Hoenn Gym Leaders?

I don't know why but I'm finding the fights with the frontier brains more exciting than those with the Hoenn gym leaders.

It might be because Ash is using an established team with lots of moves and evolved pokemon as opposed to the gym leaders where his pokemon were still growing. It also might be because he's mixing new and old pokemon or that the Brains are as well (not to mention Noland having an Articuno which I would have never expected in the anime)

I just found the Battle Factory and Battle Dome fights more exciting then any of the Hoenn gym battles so far. Anyone else feel the same?

Yeah. The BF Brains are suppost to better anyway. I know it took me several times to take down Lucy at the Battle Pike while the Gym Leaders seemed so easy compared to her.

Yay me for being the first to post here!!

Yeah, ok!
I think it's usually more exciting when Ash battles with an established team than a bunch of Pokemon he just caught.

For the first four Gym battles in Hoenn, all Ash had were Pikachu, Treecko, Taillow and Corphish. That's it.

Likewise, it is a lot more exciting to see him battling now with a Sceptile, Swellow, Corphish, Donphan, Charizard and Snorlax.

If Ash uses some more of his Oak Pokemon in the next few Brains, (like Heracross, Tauros, etc.) they're bound to be even more exciting because we haven't seen those Pokemon in action in ages.

At the moment I think its a bit unfair to judge between the two badge providing jaunts. But if the Frontier matches we've seen thus far are anything to go by, then at the end of this little trek I'll have much prefered the Gym battles (and a certain Houen league match) a whole lot more.

Currently the only decent Frontier matches, imo, have been those against Greta and Tucker. Noland's challenge was a total crap as far as I'm concerned and Lucy's was repetative garbage. But he's got 3 more facilities to compete in, so thats a good opportunity to get some decent battling down. And its really difficult to see them messing those up with the team he has now.

Its Ash's stronger team. Its so exciting to see Swellow, Donphan, Grovyle and now Sceptile and even some Oaked Pokemon in action.

Meh. I say Ash's latter AG Gym Battles are better by far. The only exception is the battle with Greta. And that only because Snorlax owns.

Thank you, SPPf! :)
The only Frontier Battles that have truly been awesome were Noland's and Tucker's. Greta's wasn't anything special, and Lucy's was redundant. More unique strategies were utilized in Hoenn, like against Brawly and Winona. I wish they kept up the trend with Ash using his Pokemon at Oak's, however. I would loved to have seen Kingler go up against Tucker.

The battle fronteir is much better because of.. well what everyone else said ^ Also because of his better team of evolved pokemon and some battles with some of his pokemon at oaks.

No way. The Hoenn Gym battles are king.

I'd say a good deal of me not liking the BF fights more may have to do with the complete *******ization of their uniqueness, but it wouldn't be simply the hate. Ash's Hoenn battles were well-crafted pieces of creative plumpness.

- In Rustburo, he had to devise a strategy for taking down Roxanne ahead of time, a first for the Pokemon anime. That introduced us to Pikachu's Iron Tail and Treecko's badassery.

- Brawley gave Ash a defeat and let us enjoy the aftermath through his training sessions on Dewford.

- Wattson was the most unexpected. Sure, we may have felt it cheap for Pikachu to win his match at first, but them having the gall to pull that off was admirable. Plus, when Ash passed back through Mauville, we had the most down-to-earth rematch ever.

- Lavaridge was nice because Flannery was a novice Gym Leader.

- Winona simply had a spectacular fight, of the calibur that Tucker had. And this is the definitive "Swellow is more than the bird Pokemon" episode.

- Mossdeep's actual battle was 'Meh', but cool to watch. And it set the first ever double battle Gym bout.

- Juan's battle just kicked ***. 'Nuff said.

I applaud the BF facilities in that they provide a standard of excellence when it comes to fighting. Each one has delivered action-packed segments and strategic battling we've all come to appreciate. That doesn't ammend the fact that they screwed us out of some fresh experiences.

Someone's forgetting about the last Orange Island gym. ;p

Anyway, thank you V, for saying basically everything I wanted to but was too lazy to type up earlier.

Oh ****, I did forget about that. Thank you, Hera.

That does say something about the quality of the fight though if even I cannot recall it.

Let's be honest. Alakazam and Marowak? Please.

Yeah, ok!
Perhaps you should watch that episode again V, that battle rocked. Even with the lackluster animation back then.

It's the Orange Islands. A lot of people forget the Gyms from that region. :p

I like the Hoenn gyms more, but it is an unfair comparrision because the BF isn´t even over.

You should make a thread about this after the current saga.

But up until now..I only liked the half of the frontier brains.

I really disliked the Factory battle, not because I dislike charizard in the anime ( which is partly true) but because it was just too long for just 2 pokemon fighting..it felt dragged and ended with the all so popular seismictoss..wow..I was "suprised"...

Gretas Battle was awesome, nice choreogarphy, cool pokemon and it was good written if you ask me.

Tucker..well...it was one of the best battles of all time imo ^^ and not only because of the animation which made everything so dynamic, but because off the well set setting, lovable characters, little "flashbacks" , cool strategies..

I was dissapointed by Lucy´s battle , because ..uhm..Milotic...it was really boring to see the Adan battle again...( which was cool in Hoenn, but isn´t as cool in Kanto anymore)

I´m still waitig for a 3 on 3 Frontier brain battle...maybe it would be rushed if they did...I don´t know...and bringing back old favourites doesn´t make a battle necessarily better...Id like to see squirtle/hera (even bulbasaur ^^;) back in action, but I can live without them

The Hoenn gyms impressed me more like Adan,Flannery,Roxanne,Winnoa..even the twins.

But there are still many Brains left..maybe they´ll suprise me.

Izit cuz I is black?
The Hoenn Gyms were all great in their own way, and all offered something we hadn't had before
Rustboro- Iron Tail, Treecko hindered by lack of elemental attacks
Dewford- more than ten episodes of training and an evolution from a gym pokemon! That hasn't happened during battle since Sabrina and Koga!
Mauville- the OHKO straight victory for Pikachu was nothing short of good writing. And the rematch was good too.
Lavaridge- Sleeping Corphish? Overheat's drawback addressed? Cool!
Petalburg- Overgrow and Static introduced.
Fortree- Aerial battling is a rarity on the show, and the newest evolved pokemon taking on an experienced shiny version of itself was interesting too.
Mossdeep- A cheap, yet interesting use of the clouds. And the two gym leaders thing.
Sootopolis- not seen actual episodes, but I know that it's good. Two stages of battle, with a double battle and three one-on-ones, well done, writers!

Whereas the facilities have only showcased new pokemon, Oaked pokemon, a new attack and Corphish/Swellow as a team. Great battles, but not unique.
