Anyone hear of Mega Man ZX for the DS?

Another new Mega Man series! Boy do Capcom love the series and co! Ahem anyway Mega Man ZX or Rockman ZX (ロックマンゼクス, Rokkuman Zekusu?) is a new spin-off of the long running Mega Man video game series, and is currently under development by Capcom for the Nintendo DS. Mega Man ZX will be a side-scrolling shooter like Mega Man, Mega Man X, and Mega Man Zero, and will feature an art style similar to Mega Man Zero (Toru Nakayama style). The "Z" and "X" in the title most likely refer to Zero and Mega Man X.

Recently, the Japanese site ITmedia updated their site with a massive update revealing more about the Nintendo DS Game. ITmedia, other than hinting at the fact that the game will have animated sequences and telling their will be voice acting, also revealed some of the story. The game takes place on a technologically advanced world. Humans and the machine life forms built by humans, called Reploids, coexist peacefully, until some Reploids began to go out of control and attack humans. Inevitably this leads to a long lasting war between humans and Reploids. After this war ends, Humans and Reploids coexist peacefully once more.

Humans began to develop machine bodies for themselves and gain the power of Reploids, and in turn Reploids developed finite lifespan. Eventually this led to the erasing of the boundary between humans and Reploids. Life continued like this for hundreds of years.

In time, the people of the world (who were once humans and Reploids) managed to revive some of the former nations of the world. However, preventing further prosperity like the days of old, incidents here and there around the world began wherein some of the machine life forms went berserk (referred to as Mavericks or Irregulars), making some areas dangerous, and soon this activity obstructed exchange between nations. These areas prohibited to nations became known as "Outer."

Thus, the nations of the world became divided into areas designated as Inner (インナー, Innā?), where it was safe for people to live, and Outer (アウター, Autā?) where the dangerous Irregulars appeared. Great developments were made due to the efforts of the corporation Serpent Company (セルパン・カンパニー, Serupan Kanpanī?), which possesses technology unearthed from historic ruins in the Outer areas. Peaceful life was maintained by receiving the technology offered by the Serpent Company in the central areas of cities.

In the frontier regions where the crisis management of countries still doesn't reach, damage from attacks by Mavericks has occurred at times. The people in these areas developed the self defense organization known as The Guards (ガーディアン, Gādian?) They defend the frontier regions and investigate the cause of the Maverick element.

In more detail, it's mentioned that the Serpent Company uses the technology developed from historic ruin finds essentially as a lifeline for the cities, providing goods to the people such as energy resources. It is not necessarily a bad thing that the company has more or less grasped the lifeline of the cities, at least for the people in those cities. The Serpent Company is named after its own president, Serpent (セルパン, Serupan?). Serpent is considered a wonderful person who raised the company on his own by excavating the ancient technology sleeping in the Outer areas. Furthermore, he has arranged a Mechaniloid army in his company, and is said to have repeatedly saved countries from Maverick attacks in the past.

On the other hand, the Guardians in the frontier regions are considered to be unassociated private ventures. They make the "Guardian Base," a gigantic flying ship, their headquarters, and they take people on a volunteer basis to not only defend the frontier areas but also investigate the Irregular source. The original leader of Guardian disappeared during the investigation of an Outer area, and command has been taken over by the young girl named Prairie (プレリー, Purerī?).

The two teenaged protagonists, a male named Vent (ヴァン, Van?) and a female named Aile (エール, Ēru?), have lost their parents due to Irregular attacks. Another character, Girouette (ジルウェ, Jiruwe?), is Vent and Aile's senior, and carries out his own business, Girouette Express which sends anything, from letters to weapons, to anywhere, regardless if it's legal or not. He receives a request from Prairie to transport the Live Metals (ライブメタル, Raibu Metaru?) Model X (モデルX, Moderu X?) and Model Z (モデルZ, Moderu Z?), which are assumed to be based on Mega Man X and Zero. Live Metal is a substance discovered in places, such as ruins, that contains information about events bygone. They carry the battle experience and memories of those from beings from the past.

Later it is implemented that Models X and Z are used by the characers, Vent and Aile use the Live Metal Model X, to take a form similar to Rockman X. The battle experience from past times provides them with attacks like the Double Charge Shot. Girouette uses the Live Metal Model Z, and takes the from similar to Zero. There is actually very little known about Model Z, other than the fact that it utilizes a Z-Saber like weapon. From information so far, it is shown only Van or Aile(based on who you choose) are playable, and Girouette is probably a supporting character.

Now for the style of gameplay. The player can merge other Live Metals with Model X to create other forms. Combining Model Z and Model X will result in Model ZX. Vent's version of the ZX model uses a Z-Saber-like sword and has a Zero-esque playing experience. Aile's ZX Model uses a Buster Gun-like weapon and has an X-esque playing experience. Otherwise, both look extremely similar to each other (like Zero in the Mega Man Zero art style).

Live Metals of the four guardians from Mega Man Zero are also available.

Model HX is a form that resembles Harpuia, with many of his abilities. Vent/Aile is able to air dash, hover, analyse bosses, and use two swords.

Model FX is a form with Fefnir's abilities. Vent/Aile uses two "Knuckle Busters", a buster that looks like Fefnir's weapon. By using the touch screen, Vent/Aile is able to direct the path of the shots.

Model LX has the form of Leviathan. Model LX has abilities such as swimming in water, and detecting items on a minimap. It uses a halberd as a weapon.

Model PX is a form with Phantom's abilities, such as a radar, allowing the user to find enemies in the dark, or hidden routes.

No, I've never heard of this game. I really don't know much about Mega Man period. But I have Mega Man Colonel for Gameboy Advance.

Yes, I've known about this for several months.

It seems interesting, and it's going to be at E3 - already announced by Capcom.

I heard about it a while ago. It looks so awesome. About time the series needed a revamp.

I've always been a fan of the X series, but not so much Battle Network or original. Hopefully this will be most like the X series. I can't wait!

I don't want this to become like Zero, where they're just pulling things out of their *** in order to release a new one every year. Take your time and make each game better than the previous, Capcom!

The game is probably a combination of the Zero and X style of gameplay hence the title but I like the fact you can transform into what six different forms? This game does sound kind of killer.

I've known about ZX for ages, so far it looks like one of the best Rockman games to date. I love the idea of the Live Metal system.

I'm importing this from Japan so I'll be playing it over the summer break.

Ah, yes. Rockman ZX. I've heard of this ever since news of this first came out. I think it was sometime in November-December, when Rockman.EXE 6 came out in Japan. The CoroCoro issue that month revealed ZX.

Natrually, someone in the Megaman Club got ahold of this info hours after scans and info about ZX popped up on all of the major Rockman sites. I really can't say I was the first one to tell everyone in the Megaman Club about this.

It looks intresting, but I hope that it dosen't get as boring (plot-wise) as the Zero games can sometimes get at certain points. Sadly though, I won't be able to play this game until I get a DS.

Mabye it's about time that those of us who don't own a DS get a DS now, huh?
