I'm going to guess no. Let's get the basic story down first and such. The year is 20XX, and the game is driven by the characters Arisu Reiji and Xiaomu (original characters created specifically for this game). The two of them work for a special unit called Shinra and they are tasked with investigating spirit and otherworldly disturbances. They are initially investigating a strange "sleeping sickness" in the Shibuya area of Japan, when it becomes apparent that something much larger is at stake. Characters, both good and evil from other times and other worlds begin appearing in Japan 20XX.

This Namco-published strategy RPG one-ups its fighting forefathers by not only assembling characters from two world-beating libraries, but by also going to great lengths to explain how everything fits together. The result is one of the wackiest storylines ever crafted for a game. Monolith Software (also developer of the Xenosaga series) has come up with something zanier than the zaniest links at FanFiction.net. The plot is one of comedy yet...is serious at times as well.

For example when Jin (from Tekken) encounters the two aboard the boat, he identifies Ken as being a famous fighting champion. While there is quite a bit of cross-franchise knowledge amongst the characters in Namco X Capcom, many characters start off not knowing the counterparts who don't appear alongside them in the real game world. Seeing the reactions by the normal human characters to their first encounter with Lei Lei and the other, less-human, characters is a riot on its own.

It's important to note that the characters are all themselves, living in their respective game storylines, and with their respective enemies and conflicts. Monolith seems to have just created connections between the individual stories. Ken is still world champion, and he's in the company of Ryu as they head to Japan to find Chun Li, who's chasing after Shadaloo. The two World Warriors just happen to be riding aboard the same boat that came under zombie attack in Gun Survivor. And Lei-Lei is also there for some reason.

Players with intricate knowledge of Namco and Capcom should have a blast keeping up with the storyline. Assuming you're familiar with all the background stories, that is. I've found my attention waning and waxing depending on my knowledge of a particular series. For me, the best parts of the story have been those related to games like Street Fighter and Dark Stalkers, both of which I'm too familiar with. Tales of Destiny, Gun Survivor and Bravoman (there was a story?) -- not so familiar, and these parts haven't been as interesting as a result.

Now for the actual gameplay here folks. The game is a hybrid of an action-RPG and a strategy-RPG. Movement is done on a square grid with turns being determined by figuring out which character has the highest AP (This AP system is comparable to the AP system used in Xenosaga Episode I, another RPG developed by Monolith Soft). On the player's turn he can move his character into position and choose to attack an enemy.

At this point the game switches into the action-RPG portion. Your character has a number of "Branches" they can use. Each direction on the directional pad combined with the O button will perform an attack. Each attack uses up 1 branch. If you perform a certain number of Aerial Chains (hitting the enemy in mid-air), you will gain bonuses, from extra experience points to items to more branches to use in this turn. Upon filling up the character's Special Gauge they can use the Triangle button to perform a special attack. They will also be able to select a Multiple Assault attack if their units on the board meet the conditions.

Defense also puts the player in the action-RPG mode, this time blocking to reduce the enemy's damage, and increase the amount of AP they have. There are 50 levels total (45 normal and 5 prologue) and the game will take from around 70-100 hours to complete. And on and on. That and the items and stuff used are from both companies and all.

By the way...there are tons of characters from both companies. And tons of ones that only people in Japan know as well and ones from the past. Who would of thought they look that much in past documents for characters egh?

From Arthur the Knight from Ghost 'n Goblins from Capcom to Bravoman from Namco, to some familar Soul Caliber characters, to Mega Man Legends, to Street Fighter after Street Fighter, to Tekken to Tekken, to Namco's Klonoa and...well you get the point. Let's go with hundreds of familar foes and enemies from both companies and some hillarious jokes and scenarios and tons of text and voice acting in this game okay? Especially when they all meet each other? Even the guy from Dig Dug is in! Some art of some of the characters and the the two in the front are the stars and original characters while I'm at it.

Awosome game for Japan it looks like right? Too bad Europe and the US well yet to taste this RPG crossover gem. Say what? That and Production IG has yet again done another game anime intro (Boy them guys are good and popular lately! First Fire Emblem Path of radiance to Kill Bill and now this gem) which is pretty awosome way to say. Oh and many music tunes from both companies and songs are in along with a original track I hear.

Don't worry this can't be downloaded mods just to watch. Now why it won't be here anytime soon? So far, neither Capcom nor Namco have announced any plans to release NxC outside of Japan. There is much speculation as to why: Some have speculated that the companies involved can't agree on which would distribute and profit from the game, while others cite the obscurity of many of Namco's included characters, some of whom appear in games that have not seen release outside of Japan.

So what do you do? Import....wah!

Hahaha, Namco X Capcom has been out here for a really long time. I don't know if I can get it, but it does look pretty spiffy. Look, even Gil from Tower of Druaga and KOSMOS is in it. I have some seen some screens and it does look pretty cool.

Yes, the guy from Dig Dug does make an appearance as a secret character. As well as classic characters such as Valkyrie from Legend of Valkyrie (you can see her in the picture that Wes posted).
