Appearences of new attacks

Pokemon Fan

Knuckle Trainer
I looked back a few pages and didn't find a similar topic, so hopefully it will be okay to post this.

Anyway, this is regarding the many new attacks in Diamond and Pearl. We all know that simply knowing the name of an attack and its effect doesn't always tell us much about the attack's appearence itself. Thus we tend to have to wait for the anime or stadium type games to show us a more detailed or realistic way for a pokemon to use a move.

Still the game does tell us a number of hints as to what the move fully looks like and acts. The graphics give some idea to its appearence, while the Physical or Special nature of it tells us about what is used (i.e. is it a physical object or energy, like how Razor Leaf is a Physical move because it fires real solid leaves while Magical Leaf is a Special move because it fires leaves made out of Grass type energy). We can also find out in Serebii's attack dex whether or not the pokemon's body makes physical contact when using the move.

With that in mind, how do you think the more obscure new moves will look in the anime or stadium-type games?

I expect the various "pulse" moves (Dragon Pulse, Dark Pulse) to all be spheres of energy of various colors to indicate their types. What I wonder is how the Dark Pulse attack might be distinguished from Shadow Ball (not that the anime and games have not been above making two different moves look identical before).

Grass Rope is a real mystery to me. It is learned by many non Grass type pokemon and apparently involves lifting the opponent then dropping it. However, how many of the pokemon that learn it might use the move is beyond me.

Another peculiar one is Bug Upheavel (people who have played the game and seen the move might have more of a clue than me about what these attacks look like). It is a Special attack and does not make physical contact, but what does it do? Does the bug make energy come up from the earth or the sky?

The various new punches and Shadow Claw will likely all be variations of a pokemon's digits glowing in different colors. The elemental fangs ont he other hand will likely involve the user's teeth/mouth getting covered with crackling electricity, surging flames or icy energy depending on the move.

Giga Attack is also a bit of a mystery to me. It is the new physical version of Hyper Beam, yet it does not make physical contact with the opponent (at least according tot eh DP attack dex).

For that matter, what of Land Power? How will the special attack version of Earthquake look any different from Earthquake?

A number of moves are self-describing. Arm Hammer, Leaf Storm, Iron Head. Yet other names are a bit confusing like Blade Test (a test of what?), In Fight (was something lost in translation?) or Force Exert.

I expect Air Slash to look similar to Razor Wind or Air Cutter, just a singular slash of wind energy from a wing rather than the multiple ones of the other two moves.

Similarly Vacuum Blade I expect to be a move that cuts the foe without touching it by having a punch or kick move so fast that it creates a vacuum of air as it travels. I've thought of Psycho Cutter as a blade of psychic energy attached to a pokemon's arm, but it could even simply be the pokemon slashing the opponent with energy projectiles from its mind. Scissor Cross I expect to be like a Slash but done with both arms to deliver a cross-shaped cut. Lastly, Aqua Tail will either be the pokemon's tail glowing blue or its tail getting covered with swirling water.

Post your own ideas if you're interested.
