Probably because they don't want Ash to use reserves just yet. They want him to build a team of new captures first

You know, I didn't know how much I wanted to see Raboot and Dizzile being emo buddies until now. Make it happen writers.

I'm glad they aren't counting Mimmey as one of Ash's Pokemon, I was disappointed with that in the early stages of the show and it sounds like he's capturing one of my favorite Pokemon, something I've hoped would have happened since the D/P series. I hope they bring up the aura thing again since Ash often connects with them through that. I'm also glad they are back to focusing on Ash more that makes me so happy, he's my favorite character and haven't exactly been a fan of Go's character compared to Ash's other companions.

I'm kind of surprised people are so against him getting Riolu, or any of the popular pokemon known for being strong in general. In pretty much every past series his teams have been pretty unconventional, and if you want to be cynical about it, ragtag. So in a roundabout way getting "unoriginal" powerhouse pokemon is kind of original, really. It was this unspoken rule until recently that he couldn't have pokemon like that, or at best could maybe have one pokemon like that each series that would only really become usable until near the end, so to see that restriction gone is pretty satisfying to me.

At the same time, I get it. It is jarring how in this series he's suddenly catching fully evolved pokemon that used to be moonshot fantasies you'd only find in stuff like fanfics, so I get why the recent captures can be less exciting, more predictable, etc.
