Kabuto just edges out of the principal's office while Ariados receives a suspension, detention and defenestration. Meanwhile, Zorua sneaks through in the suspicious crowd; I guess Gothorita forgot to wear its creepy makeup today.

All I can say is, it's a good thing Vanillish didn't end up in the cafeteria...

TWENTY-FIRST FLOOR
The usual "ding" rings across the floor, but even as you walk toward the elevator, it is overpowered by another sound, which grows quickly as you ascend to 21F. The doors open to reveal Room 211 -- the band room. A cacophony of musical instruments drowns out the objections of the teacher, Loudred, until it finally has to throw someone out. (You notice that one poor kid is horribly playing what seems to be an Azure Flute. Is it real?)

The hallways are spacious up here, yet still jam-packed with slow-moving students on their way to class. Along the east side stand four biology labs, all using bugs to explain evolution and all with ludicrously out-of-date equipment. Sigh... just like the days when you were in high school.

An Eelektrik is concealed in a far corner of a computer lab and is actually working on some very advanced programs. From the intruding wave of less-experienced programmers that have just arrived by ladder, it's not going to stand any "smart" comments.

Further around the hallway, Archen succeeds in calming down the furor of the Face-Off by lecturing everyone about the history of the world in its most boring voice. The question is, who's going to doze off? Next door, Kadabra is achieving similar success with a philosophy discussion. You glance at the chalkboard and notice that the topic of the lecture is "The Outdoors." I guess that concept is pretty out there in here.

Finally, you get to the bathroom, and it seems that a Wailmer has been skipping class to turn it into a home. An unwary student opens the door and is completely inundated by a roomful of tap water, sending it back.

The last remaining fighter from 1F goes down as Whismur is out-performed in biology class. (While it did receive one vote, everybody else got at least one as well.) And even Porygon, the System Administrator, can't keep up with Eelektrik's "L33T H4XXØR" skills.

Meanwhile, Diamond/Pearl-era rivals Cranidos and Shieldon finally cross paths... in a bathroom, of all places. The latter gets flushed.

TWENTY-SECOND FLOOR
Once again, a loud uproar greets you as you leave the elevator. This time, though, it's slightly more bearable... or much less bearable, depending on your treatment of cuteness. On a stage decorated with banners in Japanese, an Illumise practises a J-pop song while, backstage, a Corsola informs her that it's just not "kawaii" enough.

Looking around you, you find that the entire floor is given over to a huge gymnasium. Over in a far corner, a Lickitung lazily chews a MooMooMilkyWay; it's clearly never really agreed with gyms or battling of any kind. In fact, you're not even sure it knows Lick.

The school swimming pool, like most, is fairly small, fairly run-down and fairly overrun with rivalry. A Nidorina out in the centre of the gym floor enters an anime-style, no-holds-barred battle, while in the adjoining weight room, a Graveler Finally, a Yanma circles the jogging track around the periphery of the gym, bragging about its speed. That's ironic, considering that it's not even jogging.

Two small offices lie off the west side of the gym. As the racers invade the offices, they are met with cheers from Weepinbell and Gloom, two friends who "go way back" and appear to form the school's student council. The Arconauts receive full support from the council... until they start attacking, of course. The Face-Off is just too cool for school.

Some people do just pick favourites, but you're supposed to vote for whomever you believe is the best swimmer, even if it is sometimes a foregone conclusion.

Both members of the Student Council are tossed out by their own revengeanceful (thank Homestar Runner for that word) classmates. Illumise surpasses Kricketune's kawaii-ness, and Cacnea outruns the philosophy teacher.

TWENTY-THIRD FLOOR
You emerge into a space that is, once again, supposed to be an imitation of the outdoors. Only problem: its builders hardly ever saw the real thing. A bright orange "sun" hangs in a "sky" a much darker blue than you're used to. There aren't usually dangerous pits of bubbling lava lying around your backyard, either.

You hastily decide not to complain any more about this, as a Combusken standing near one of the pits gives you a surprisingly cold stare. Glancing around the park, you find a Pignite, Monferno, Quilava and Charmeleon, all with nests (or a burned, blackened plastic tree, in Monferno's case) built beside lava ponds.

Five more normal lakes, shaped like irregular bubbles and also interspersed with fields of long grass, are mixed in among the lava lakes; each houses the middle-stage evolution of a starter, and all the starters seem fairly calm on the surface.

But when the ladders break through the floor, only just reaching above the grass, everything turns cold. A Wartortle and a Grotle, formerly members of some kind of "Turtle Club," suddenly launch a Hydro Cannon and a Frenzy Plant, soon broken up by the Blast Burn of the nearby Combusken. It's a war between three armies.
