Are Genwunners really that stupid

Just so I am clear; a "genwunner" is a person who likes only RBGY and thinks that Generations 2-5 "aren't real pokemon", not people who started with the first Gen, and still play the series to this day (replete with all the other generations). If it is the latter, then I suppose I am a genwunner, as I have been in since the beginning and am quite proud of that fact (I too started with Blue, as the colour red hurts my eyes--in general, I like "cool" colours over "warm" colours). HOWEVER, if genwunners are the former, then I have encountered them, and some of them say ridiculous things: "THERE ARE ONLY 150 POKEMON!". Um, Mew says "hey", for one.

A lot of you younger folks aren't going to want to hear it, but some of you (especially "Genthree-ers") seem to have this same problem as the genwunners. I've heard a lot of kids that started with Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald say "THIRD IS THE BEST! FIRST IS STUPID AND ALL THE LATER GENERATIONS SUCK!". This (and the fact that I hate the Hoenn region with a fiery passion) has made me dislike the third gen games (though I love the third gen pokemon, I just hate the third gen games and region, which is why I don't replay them).

My favorite gen is fifth. I like the designs, I like how much more advanced it is than the previous generations, I like the story lines for both BW and B2W2. However, I will ALWAYS love the first generation, as it was my first. Yes, it was flawed. I know that. But that won't stop me from playing my copy of blue. I like the glitches, I like how crude the sprites look (some of them make me out right laugh), and, to tell the truth, I miss Team Rocket. They seemed the most realistic out of the "Evil Teams" as they were just the Pokemon Mafia. [/prepares to be called a genwunner for that]

I gotta be honest, I will always like Team rocket as they were the first "bad" team and because I grew up with the anime, but with that said I have never really cared about the story of the pokemon series, to me the whole purpose of the game is to train a team awesome near godlike creatures just for the thrill of battle. That's why I never get why all the playable characters get such a fan following.

Take red for instance, he has such a huge fan following, but he has no personality whatsoever. all of the PCs are nothing more than our insert into the pokemon world. The true stars of the pokemon series are the pokemon themselves. Not Red, not N, not any of these generic anime kids, it is the POKEMON!

By that logic, shouldn't a "true fan" love all pokemon? I despise Garbodor, and I'm not the greatest fan of gen 2 ever, yet I consider myself a true fan.

You don't have to like everything to be a true fan, you just have to like it. As long as Genwunners love the original pokemon games, they're still fans of pokemon games.

Shouldn't we respect their opinions? They don't respect ours, but if that's our argument, then it just ends up being an endless loop.

yeah but not liking the second gen is totally different then those who do not like newer gens because they are holding onto their youth and past.. thats what genwunners are really about.. they do not realise that it's all rose tinted glasses as to why gen 1 and 2 were the only true pokemon...

i think that there are some new pokemon are pretty awful pokemon, worse than any of the first gen pokemon. vanillish and garbodar are...well...i just can't shake how terrible these pokemon look.and also woobat... it's true i agree with genwunners that poke designs are going down hill, especially in generation 5

You can't really call someone a "true fan", though. That's like saying only someone who has read the entire bible is a "true Christian", or that Chinese people who don't hate Japanese people aren't "true Chinese people".

That's the crux of the argument. But the problem is that genwunners don't keep to themselves; they outright express their hate to others. By simply bringing up Pokemon. I've been in cases where the non-genwunners is the minority in the argument, and it's very frustrating and irritating for multiple people to put down Hoenn, Sinnoh and particularly Unova when I for one thought they were incredible.

I can confirm one thing, and that is that whenever you encounter a Pokemon fan on a non-Pokemon forum, it's most likely going to be a genwunner. Trust me, I've went to various non-Pokemon forums, and almost every Pokemon fan I met staid that "there are only 151 Pokemon" and bashed on everything after the first generation, even bashing on Buizel and Floatzel (my favorite Pokemon, which are from Gen 4).

A lot of genwunners tend to be trolls as well, often shoving their opinion down peoples throats, often worshipping Gen 1 and bashing on everything after.

Then again, any Transformers fan should know that there are obsessive Generation 1 fans in that fandom too.

Yeah...no. Comparing religion to a video game audience that is obsessed with the first few sets of pixels is not a way of going about it. Someone could just as easily post how the "godless heathens" dislike Christians and constantly push negativity upon them. This isn't about religion, so don't make it about religion

Well, i have many pokemon i like, many from first gen, many from later gens. And people sometimes sais that pokemon i like arev horrible, specially cofagrigus and ferrothorn.

People who pretend that Johto was the oh so amazing holy grail of Pokemon best ever region everything else sucks are all too common too. And hate on later regions (particuarly Hoenn) for the "crime" of simply existing.

Haven't really seen all that many "Genwunners" around lately, mostly just nostalgic Kanto fans with decent opinions, Gentwo-ers galore though.

The Gunwunners say that the new designs are terrible, but let's see some of the pokemon designs of the "flawless" generation.
Krabby line- oversized crabs.
Seel line- bland white sea mammals that the only thing they could do name-wise was change 1 letter.
Pidgey line- puny little birds.
The point is that complaining that today's Pokemon are uninspired, when a lot of the gen 1 Pokemon practically define uninspired (especially Seel), is oxymoron.

I personally like Gen I and II most (no, not for nostalgia), but I also like the other generations, and I don't close my eyes for them.

They had some reasons to hate Gen III though. I was around by the time and I remember very well the disappointment some people felt by some stuff, mainly: Removal of features that favored immersion (like day/night cycle, days of the week and their particularities, which was indeed disappointing since it was an objective step backward in a more powerful console), and especially, and most importantly the lack of backward compatibility annoyed many people who couldn't transfer their old Pokémon anymore, which they loved, and just gave up playing.

I'm not really taking their side, because I know that those sacrifices were needed (the removal of clock related features I think it was to avoid the batteries dying quickly as it happened in the GSC cartridges, and the lack of backward compatibility was to redesign and greatly improve -IMO- the IVs/EVs) but I do understand they had some actual reasons, so I don't think their rejection is as gratuitous as you made it to be. There may be cases though, but there's no point in generalizing one way or another.

Yeah, it's the sad truth of life. There are a lot of people out there who, to put it nicely, suck. There are always going to be gangs of people with noisy opinions, and they'll use said opinions like sledgehammers with little to no regard for facts, logic, or even the feelings of other people.

However, I don't think that any specific portion of the Pokemon fanbase has more than their fair share of the above sort of people. People are incredibly creative, and fans of all varieties will always find new ways to act like stupid morons. So no, I don't think "Genwunners" or any other variation of the fanbase are particularly stupid. I just think that there are a good many stupid people running around who make fans with similar tastes to theirs look like fools.
