Are you new?

If you are, what do you want from the fanfic forums?

I'm curious. If you've joined in the past few months/weeks/days/hours, what do you like about the fanfic section? Writing/posting your stories? The writing competitions? Reading other stories? Getting to know other writers/readers? Anything else?

And what don't you like? What really annoys you about this section? What would you want to change?

What do you want more of? Reviews? Readers? Writer/reader friends? Competitions? Particular types of stories?

Please, let me know! But, ah, if yeh could do it without getting angry and so getting this thread closed, that'd be appreciated. ^^

And for non-newb folks, if yeh want to leave your thoughts, that'd be appreciated, too. ^^

Thankyou.

Piney.

Well I haven't been here very long but it is an enjoyable experience. I have read a few pieces of fan fiction and I really like many authors here, however some of the stupid stuff does annoy me.

I myself have attempted writing real fan fiction, but as you know it is no easy task. Even now I wonder if I'll have to scrap my first chapter again.

YEAHHHHHHH
The first thing I liked about the fanfic section is writing and posting my stories "Heart of the Sea" and "Take Fifty Five!". Those two fics I dearly loved so much. I loved "Heart of the Sea" because it's filled with fun drama and also some great moral messages at the end. I loved "Take Fifty Five!" also because of the memorable chracters in there and also of how I loved it when I did the story as a satire of the enteriment world. Another thing I liked about this fanfic section is getting to know other readers and writers. There were many great writers here that I became friends with and a lot of readers who had helped me get better on my stories.

What I want more of is contests! "Laugingstock" was a great and fun experience to be part of. The laughs, the jokes, the excitement of the results, everything.

The only thing that annoys me is some noob reviewers that just said "Cool story! Can't wait for more!". Meh, it is nice that they liked it and all, but still. I wish there will be more reviewers that would at least make a review that is longer then a few lines.

;134;~Good night, and good luck~

Well at least they read it and replied - it could even bump the story. There's use in some of these replies you know. You just don't like that because these people have been labelled noobs and everyone here believes that EVERYTHING a noob does is bad.

When I first joined, what I was looking for from the fanfic section was exactly what I managed to find. A tight-knit community of people, who seem to reside within the fanfic section. I remember seeing all these people, and watching them as they replied to one another because they knew one nother. Everyone here knows who everyone is, and its a wonderful thing to experience.

When I first joined, I wanted to make friends that would compel me to write and visit the forums regularly. I think the first friend I made (as Olyon) was Elemental Charizam. I tried to strike something up with Breezy, but failed D=.

From then on in, I was introduced to more people. Ice King has been a great friend ever since he replied to each of my countless AC topics.

So I found what I wanted ^^. Its a great community, is the fanfic section.

When I first joined, I had one goal in mind, to be the best, or most well loved author out there. That feeling, due to a lack of enthusiasm and a burst of maturity, has faded away, though I still crave readers and attention to a lesser degree.

Maybe I'm just distanced from the rest of the opeople here, because I feel no true connections and that has helped my downfall of striving to be the best.

By far, above all else, I write to be read, and be told what I've done right and wrong, and when ignored, just like when anyone else human is ignored, sadness prevades, breaking my heart to almost feel unwanted.

This is still a great place, even if I can't seem to get the full benefit of kinship.

I guess I want more readers, maybe some friends I can coordinate with, maybe to see myself on someone's list of favorite stories above many of the supposed bests, perhaps a castle in the sky and finally... a pink jump suit to chase bike thieves, but that's a whole other story that will not be touched upon.

To start, I was here a few years prior, but I just... gave up, my precious and then somewhat noticed fic Dust to Deceit faded away with the memory of me. Then I had a resurgance in interest, and I've returned, but I feel like I'm a bit of an outsider, trying to get in, and dare I admit... pushing the competition away. Oh come on! Everyone gets that feeling... don't they? I guess that means I don't like competitions, mainly because to me, victory matters greatly. Or rather, the recognition that it entails is what I desire.

In any case, I'm honestly glad I'm back, even if I haven't left any legacy at this place yet. I'm still glad I returned, even if I do seem to come off as a bit selfish, or subtle, or worse...

Hmm, something tells me I typed too much... oh well.

how shocking
well, the only section i don't like here is the completed fanfics because you cannot post comments there. other than that, this forum is coo

I'm not that new.

When I was still new, I read the epics. (@.@ Yes, they were long but I managed to read each of them in two waking days. Almost everything other than Pokemon Revalation. Was up to Ch. 17 in two waking days. @.@) Then, I wouldn't post my comments, because I thought I'd be breaking the rules, and I also thought I didn't have much to say. I was an inexperienced reviewer who read all the stickies and got scared.

BUt I've learned, thanks to a couple of newbie writers. That I could help out by pointing out grammar mistakes. So there, I wrote grammar reviews in my first two months.

Shoot. Got off topic.

Anyways, what I like about this place is the sheer amount of people. @.@ And from that, there's only one thing I want from posting my stories. Feedback. I got nearly none in my first story. In the second chapter, someone appeared and reviewed it, thoughts and stuff. I was like, O.O reviewer! And things.

Now with my second story, I was cautious. Even posted here in the Author's Cafe. And that got me a few readers. ^.^ Six month here and I'm being acknowledged. *-* That's happiness,

Eh, what I want more of this place is more... writers and friends. Even reviewers. That's why whenever I reply to reviews, I go all out.

And yes, competetions are fun to watch. And it can even get you noticed. Even a bit. I'd want to enter the next one, since the judges give such hard-core reviews. ^_^

Went on a rant there. Er. Bye.

We need a better Advice for Aspiring Authors Thread! We send all the n00bs there, but it doesn't help. Read it sometime; you'll see.

I'm what you call semi-new.

I know the ropes, but not well enough as the veterens here.

plus I'm not recognized ;_;

Anyway, I think the fanfic section is the last remaining area of the site that isn't plauged with idiocy (or rather, the idiocy here is less noticeable)

I agree with that, although it kind of helps since its been trimmed down a bit, but now seems like a scrapbook where the posts aren't coherent. I've tried my attempt at a Pokemon tutorial site (ala the Pidgeot).

Uh, Tezza, you accidently triple-posted, I believe.

Anyway, I guess you could call me pretty new. At another site I'm a little bit more well known, but that's a smaller forum. Here - well, not really known by many people, but I'm still working on my first chaptered fic. I feel really good when I get reviews, especially the ones that point out gramatical mistakes, flat characters, and hints on how to improve. But really, I write for myself. The reviewers are just a little bonus.

And yes, I do believe Advice for Aspiring Authors isn't very informative. (Neo Pikachu wrote a great one at PE2K Forums)

And you know how Timid Kyrogue has the Interview with the Authors? Well, I was thinking of making more of a newsey sort of talk show.

I'm new not so much to writing, but to the fan fic section. I like writing my own story, The Thorn in the Roses. When i'm not so busy with that I'll start t read other peoples. I also like getting to know other writers a bit.

What I like about this place? There are many very good fics in here, if you just bother to search them out. The author profiles thread was very useful in this regard, seeing how I have no idea who is who and what sort of fics they write, or anything else.

What I don't like? The format, definitely. I'm a very picky reader, and I plain out refuse to read fics I don't like the basis of (anything with anime characters, talking pokemon, etc), and the forum format makes it tedious to find anything worthwile. If you don't know to start with who all those authors are and such, you're stuck having to go through every single fic to check if it's worth reading. The author's name, the title of the fic and the rating don't give you very much to go on. Just because of this, I usually put off reading fics here, although I'm intending on some day going through them. Emphasis on some day. ^^;; But I guess that's not anything that could be helped. Just needed to rant a bit.

I can see how good this place would be for authors, though, and I'm actually considering posting something myself, which is something that I haven't done in years (make my fics available, I mean). It seems to me that it's rather easy to get good feedback here.

Elemental Charizam

Sudden Genre Shift
When I first joined, about two and a half years ago (or possibly three and a half, I forget) this place was quite different. The reason I came over was to get more feedback on some story i cooked up in about 15 minutes. It took me about two minutes to realise that just because some threads topped a thousand replies, it didn't mean mine would. The first reviews I got weren't flames, just really not very helpful. I remember Breezy actually posting something useful, which was what kept me from giving up on Serebii as le crapville. Somehow I met Iceking about a month or so later... over AIM I think... all a bit blurred now cause my memory sucks. I met Burnt Flower a bit later through a combination of serebii and FF.net. And then I met loads of other people through 'Tha hood' chat room that Fenit set up. Before gangstas invaded it of course.

The main reason I stayed at Serebii was because I knew a circle of authors that I enjoyed reading and talking to (reading their fics that is, not their minds). So I'd say the community is something I like about this place. Though, on the fllipside, there are some complete jerks/morons/idiots here. You guys suck.

On the whole 'cool story' reviews, where do you think studios get those quotes to put on their DVD cases? I've seen many 'Good reviews' which say exactly the same thing but take five paragraphs to say it. It tells you that that paticular person can't find anything at fault with the chapter (unless they're lazy) - perhaps we should erase their reply buttons?

Jetx

hooray, it's Jetx!
I've been here (doing fan fiction) since some time around december. Back then I used to write pokemon fiction, I remember the one called "Shroomy's adventures", my first ever one. And it sucked.

But now I've stopped writing it and moved onto Original fiction, I got caught up with my fic called Claxia and that was when I really got into fiction. Although, the first few chapters of that fic aren't exactly great either, the readers (the ones on my website, anyway. There are none on SPPf) said that it was around chapter four that it got good. Number four and number five are still the favourites. Anyway, the thing I love about it, to answer the thread's question, is when I finish a chapter and submit it. I just feel pride somehow. Even if eleven chapters (plus a cruddy prologue) has still got me no reviews. XD

Yeah, that's what I like about it. What I dislike, well, this isn't SPPf's fault. But what I hate is when I do a part in my fic with italics and have to scan through the chapter for it and make it italic on the forums as well. ;p

JohtoBlaziken

I dunno lol
I'm new...*cough*..*just posted the first chapter of my fanfiction a few hours ago*...*cough*

Anyway, I like the fanfic section, as it lets me express my ideas through a story, get some constructive criticism on my writing, and get motivational comments and/or pessimistic comments. You get both sides on what you should and shouldn't do, what's good about your story, and what isn't.

Writing/posting stories is always something fun, as it gives me and others something to do. You mature and grow through writing, and it always is good to express yourself with it.

I don't really care for writing compettitions, but I might try some sometime...

I love reading others' stories, and sharing writing experiences. Making new friends and such would be awesome, but I've yet to see what ends up happening.

Nothing really annoys me about this section besides the n00b fics, and I really don't want to change anything...

So, uh, yeah. It would also be nice to have more reviews, readers, and friends, but that might be asking for too much for a newbie to this section such as I...... .x.

But, what I want to accomplish here is to send a message to all of my readers, and give them a new take on life. A new take on racism, justice, liberty, that fine line between 'good' and 'evil', suicide, rights, and etc in my new fic, "Whisper, whisper". I want to, through writing and story, express my views on and about this Earth, why we're here, what purpose we have in life, heaven, hell, slavery, (all of the mentioned above), and make others think about these things too. Mainly, I'm writing to send people a strong message, and just make them think about this Earth. There are so many topics to cover, so few pages on word....XoX

But, that's meh goal, so nyah!

i love reading other people's stories just not good at writing one myself. i think details are most important part of a story =b

What I like is the fact that there are so many readers and writers here. I could find a fic for almost anything, and there are enough readers here to read everyones work.

Also, there are authors at many different levels. Even as a new author, I could give advice to people less experienced than me that may be younger and not as good at writing.

Also, then there are those that are excellent at writing. They are the names that people whisper when they mention, that are even named on other forums. They are those that right excellent stories with 80 pages in threads worth of reviews and chapters. They write like published authors and are kind.

That is what everyone dreams to become - like those legendary authors.
