Always Male on my "main" game - FireRed, Sapphire, Soulsilver, White etc. If I get the other version of the game too, then I usually mix it up and use the girl in the secondary game.

I a playing as the male because he does not look retarded like the male in DPPT. I am also playing as the male because Gold is epic in the mangas.

the guy. I'm one after all, and Lyra is lame looking. I always choose the male, but I was really close to picking Hilda in black because to me she's the best looking female

Don't call me weird but I chose male and I am a girl. I really don't like the girl's design. If I was playing Crystal, any Gen 3 game, DPPt, I would be the girl. And I will probably be the female character once I get Black and White 2.
