Wow, wow, wow, wow.

Butterfree still wearing the scarf.

Man, I'm getting emotional from this stuff! Pokémon, why you do this to me.

Shirona, my beloved...
Is this the most overshadowed episode in all of Pokemon history?
So many countless endless arguments about Go leaving or not and when he finally does no one cares because Ash's story is finally gonna end.
Unsurprisingly enough, the moments people are talking about the most are the ones related to bring back things from the older series. A fitting end for PM, it died as it lived.

Journey was 5/10
Half of Goh episode just sucks. Pointless episode, lame development, copy past
Ash the only reason Journey sucks at much as it did. Rating could be alot lower.
That’s not it, Goh just sucked as a character and the series would have been better off without him.

Because Goh is one of the key contributors to Ash’s last season being a mess full of wasted potential

You do realize any other companion would have done their own thing and Ash's story played out the same right? What does Go have to do with anything?
They shouldn’t have tried the dull protagonist angle in what’s supposed Ash’s final season. The biggest moment life, only 80% of the time was only allowed to bring along Pikachu and none of his other Pokémon, because they too concerned with developing Goh and and his Mew/Pokédex quest.

Irrelevant. Ash has not had his original personality in this show for a long time now. Goh being here or not would not make this any less better, because Ash is simply a nothingburger character in this incarnation.

He is not being retired as much as he is being put out of his misery.

The Legend of Goldwing ✨
The lugia battle was indeed short, like many predicted, not surprising.

Interesting to see Lugia flying alongside Ho-Oh. We’ve always seen box legendaries share the screen one time or another, but never those two.

Not thinking twice!
ok finale I guess, nothing really groundbreaking or awful here. Though where were they all at the end?

Minor thoughts:
  • Lugia fight was really whatever
  • Goh just has Regilieki chilling at a lab lmao
  • Team Rocket reporting that the strongest Pokemon in the world is in their reach - their final mission of the series is absolutely to get Pikachu. Looking forward to see what this means for their future.
  • The soundtrack after the motto was lit until Morpeko ended it.
  • I like the way Ash and Goh part - pick a direction and choose your own way. And Ash pushing Goh forward when he hesitates. A nice farewell overall.
  • Hop training up, and seeing Leon in his Battle Tower gear is nice.
  • Goh meeting Misty is a nice moment
  • Butterfree moment is great, but I do kinda wish it was saved for the epilogue series
  • Did all 3 of them end up in the same city in the post-credits scene lmao
I think the farewell was nice. Looking forward towards the epilogue series to see how things end up.

I admit, I was a teensy bit sad to see Goh leave since they played his fear of the unknown quite nicely. I wish Ash said something a bit different to him when he was close to crying besides restating his goal of meeting Mew. I also kinda wish Goh got new clothes too, friggin’ Chloe changed her outfit 3 times this one episode. It would have definitely solidified his new journey.

That all being said, this was kind of a meh finale episode, not helped by the huge news of future anime projects overshadowing it. I guess it’s because none of the 3 characters have a real plan for their next steps that makes it any different than what they’ve been doing this whole season. The biggest change is just that these guys will be sleeping outside. Maybe if Goh said he was going to challenge gyms or try to build a team instead of a horde, it’d feel different.

Chloe becoming a research fellow felt stupid because….what the heck was she doing all of this time traveling with Eevee? If all of that was supposed to be a different reason for her to travel, then Ash and Goh certainly didn’t need to go with her because that’s not research needed by the Cerise Institute. But whatever, Chloe fulfilled her role as the Eevee taxi, we never got to see GMax Eevee and her reward is a travel gig that she’s been doing all of this time anyway. Except she’ll be going on weekends which just begs the question was she cutting class to watch a Vaporeon surf?

Team Rocket’s brief appearance just seals the deal of Morpeko deserving to go into the trash. TR’s Pokémon tend to be lovable troublemakers, but Morpeko was just a garbage jerk wad that did nothing but cause them to starve and prematurely blast off. Why James needed to catch that rotten rat will never be clear to me and I hope to never see it again.

Definitely one of the weaker last episodes as nobody left with a real game plan that sets it apart from what we’ve seen these past few years. But Ash seeing Butterfree again certainly teases the central theme for his upcoming farewell tour, plus that bit where a Lapras looks his way. 2023 can’t come soon enough.

Break the Limit
Can’t say I’m particularly surprised the topic is mostly jabs and celebrations toward JN and the fact it’s ending and certain characters are leaving. That’s just how its legacy will be I guess, hopefully time will be kinder to it. Gotta say it was pretty freakin miserable regarding discussion about it and the fandom definitely was the most unfun during this era (was not around during BW) so in that sense I’m glad it’s finally done and over with so discussion will shift to something different.

As for the episode itself, I liked it, but since none of the characters have any plan of what they wanted to do besides “pick a direction and walk” and “become a research fellow that I already was doing anyway” it doesn’t hit as hard as it could’ve. I still got emotional at Goh and Ash finally saying goodbye as they skirt around the idea of separating until the moment couldn’t be stalled, I really got the sense just how much Ash meant to Goh and how deeply he treasured their friendship. It’s touching and a pretty good send off for the co-star. Also liked the little surprise party they had before heading out it really helps show the bonds Ash and Goh made with eachother mattered. Chloe’s little revelation of becoming more proactive is fine, to bad we won’t get to see that but it’s a step forward for her character finally.

Moropeko sucks, it SUCKS. That miserable little tyrant needs to rot in HQ until the end of days, going from the Alola group to that thing is the BIGGEST down grade.

Good finale, 7.5/10

Did Ash, Goh and Chloe end up in the same city? That's quite interesting and funny. At first I thought it was Motostoke but when the map started zooming out I started feeling like it was Paldea maybe? I don't know, which region do you think it is?

Also, showing Chloe along with Ash and Goh in the very last scene, showcases her more than just a supporting character. It feels like she was the Brock/Tracey of Journeys at this point.
