Ash doesn't grow up

I noticed this. Same with a lot of programs. If pokemons gone on for over 10 years, around 1000+ episodes, how come ash doesn't act his age. If he started his journey at the age of 10, shouldn't he be about 20 now?

just because the show has been on for ten years doesnt mean that the same amount of time has passed in the time frame of the cartoon itself.

The way I see it, not all the seasons followed real time. This is especially true for those seasons that were stretched out by fillers.

So:

Kanto: One year; even says so in canon.

Orange Islands: A few months; probably six months at the most.

Johto, Johto League Champions, Master Quest: All combined are one year, due to the fillers.

Pokemon Advanced/Challenge/Battle: All combined are one year, for same reason.

Battle Frontier: Not quite sure...

So Ash would be somewhere around 14 at the beginning of the Shinou season. It's possible-my brother's 15 and still mostly looks like a kid.

But Ash doesn't look like a kid anymore. He looks like a teenager.

it's not 1000+ episodes..there are just about 400+...and their timeframe is not the same in real time...they could have 2 or more episodes for just a day in ash's world's timeframe...i agree that he may be 14 now or 15...he looks like just a teenager for me..

there isn't an episode per day, there's only 400+ not including the movies. yeah, he's about 12-14. he seems to have grown up just a little bit from the first season.

by the way, i think this thread is kind of dumb. cartoon characters almost never age. 2 comic strips i know of have ageing characters and thats it. look at calvin and hobbes. look at the simpsons. cartoons are just like that.

Ash acts a bit more mature then his kanto days, he's hardly gets any screen time since May came onto the show, no offense to May fans as I don't dislike her. Same with pikachu.

people just say he looks older bacause of the new clothes i actually havnt noticed a change in personality that much but the writer havnt said that any of the characters have aged

How can you not notice a change in his personality? Watch season one episodes and AG episodes after and you'll notice a big change in his personality since than. And to me he acts and looks like a teen but that's my opinion.

Just look at Ash from the Orange Islands episodes (now available at ToonamiJetstream.com) and compare him to Ash from BF or D/P.

Now, the question arises, how old is MAY? 10 year olds don't look like that.

but look at her in BF the clearly realised there mistake and tryed to fix it

ash is still as thick as he was in orange islands hes just a more experienced trainer so hes not as arrogant as before

It's weird that Ash hasn't grown up, but some of the Pokemon he's encountered (like Lapras) have.
