He's never actually caught a pokemon I truly hated. May on the other hand....

Totodile, without a doubt. Its entire moveset is pitiful beyond belief, its never actually took part in a serious battle and it has zero personallity. The only thing it DOES have going for it is possible aesthetic appeal, but unfortunatly, Ash has a number of pokémon that are more interesting to look at.

I know some people are going to hate me for this, but I despise Corphish. It's an overrated attention-wh*re that totally fails, and I hate the design of it and Crawdaunt in general.
Even worse, though, is his entire Kanto team. The clue to why I hate them is in the name.

But to treat the question fairly, I'd have to say Butterfree, who really never did much until it left. Pidgeotto also gets special mention for doing next to nothing after Misty's Battle

I suppose I'll have to list Torkoal, since it barely ever won anything. But at least it looks cool and has a great personality to make up for it.

Pikachu. Nuff' said. What? You want to learn why? N00bs who watch the show before they play the game will think that pikachu is a strong pokemon. It is really, really cruddy in truth. Sorry pikafans. Raichu is far better. Plus Jolteon is better than Raichu.

Totodile it had no personality and it never even had a decent battle IMO.

Noctowl. The thing had one decent battle (Ecurteak Gym) and otherwise was owned nearly every other time Ash used it. It was also just used to peck TR's balloon and that's about it.

The only thing it had going for it was its a shiny, but other than that it did nothing of worth.

I think Pidgeotto was a worse offender in that category, Cyber. One decent battle is more than Pidgeotto ever got (that wasn't a set-up for its departure, anyways).

I really don't see just because Ash didn't use them they count as his 'Most Rubbish Pokemon'. If he doesn't use them doesn't mean they aren't just as good as the ones he praises on and on and on.

EDIT: Buttrefree, it was cool and stuff but it didn't ever get a serious battle unlike most of his Pokemon that got one in their Leagues. THe only good thing was that he traded it and it nade him feel bad :3 That was all of Butterfree's use.

If by "rubbish" you mean his weakest or least effective pokemon, I would have to go with Totodile. Cyndaquil is still a first stage, and Chikorita, at her first stage was not the strongest, despite its never say die spirit, neither was Cyndaquil, but at least they had some victories. Totodile had few, if any, victories at all except for the Team Rocket battles. All it did was dance and it was hardly serious about battle, even when the time came to fight and that cost him some matches. Every other pokemon of Ash's has at least some personality, and is willing to focus on a task when the time comes, regardless of whether it is battle or not. I will readily admit, though, that I am biased here. I like strong pokemon who are serious about what they're doing regardless of their evolutionary level. That's why I like Ash's Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Corphish, even though they are still at their first evolutionary level.
