I mean Lycanroc has consistently been established as one of Ash's more resilient mons, guy took a Wood Hammer from Tapu Bulu and more plus as a Rockruff got up after getting ragdolled around by Lele+Swords Dance boosted attacks from Type Null, etc. And while the battle with Gladion wasn't the best choreography wise it was meant to represent him surpassing his rival

It’s obviously a tie between Lycanroc and Incineroat considering both had very impressive feats and didn’t have too many embarrassing losses.

If Incineroar were too evolve so early on during his Ash's journey then if would've become his strongest Pokémon being used in the number of battles it'll face on & on recently especially its rival Professor Kukui's Incineroar it would've ruled the day by becoming legendary king & champion of the whole league! Even having its own rival to face off someone like Kommo-o for instance despite their tough & aggressive personalities! Almost as close towards Greninja's record or even something very shocking like say Incineroar getting its own form calling it "Inferno-Incineroar" when it transforms into something different to top off Ash-Greninja in a match-up!
