• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

I have a question, if knock off or trick is used against a Pokémon who is a Mega Evolution, will it return to its normal form?

Hi guys. I've had something bothering me for a while now. I have a newbie competitive team. This is how it looks...

Special sweeper: choice specs alakazam
Physical sweeper: choice band weavile
Physical wall: ferrothorn
Special wall: jellicent
fifth slot: focus sash breloom

Now the problem is, I want a mega pokemon as the sixth pokemon but WHICH mega I can't decide. Please tell me some suggestions. Also if you think there is a weakness in my team that should be noted, and if you even have a better suggestion, please let me know. Thanks in advance! :)

I'm planning on training a Florges for wi-fi play, but I'm a little stymied over what sort of set to run. I've been thinking to do a generic cleric and Wish, since I am not one of the lucky few to have found a female HA Eevee in a BW2 grotto (if anybody can point me towards one up for trade on BW2 before May 20th is up, that'd be fantastic!). Just not sure, though. I can't even decide whether to breed for a Timid, Calm, or Bold nature. So what would you guys recommend for Florges?

Thanks in advance. ^_^

The set I recommend is this:

Florges @ Leftovers
Bold Nature
Flower Veil/whatever the other ability is
EVs; 248 HP 252 Def 8 SpAtk
-Wish
-Protect
-Moonblast
-Aromatherapy

Just like you said, this is a generic Cleric and Wish set. Just watch out for steel and poison types.

I have no idea where to put this question, so sorry if it's in the wrong thread etc.

I am trying to participate in the 2014 International May Challenge. Except when I click "register" a message pops up saying "There is at least one of your Pokemon unable to participate." What the heck? All my Pokemon are bred by me (Except one, which was traded to me via Wonder Trade, but it's an Aegislash so it had to be bred in Kalos anyway) so I don't see the problem. I'm pretty sure all my moves are acceptable and none of them have the same item. What is preventing me from registering? This is my team (BTW, this is my first online comp and just for fun so not all the items are the best)

Aegislash with Weakness Policy.
Volcarona with Sitrus Berry.
Snorlax with Leftovers.
Dragonite with Life Orb.
Cloyster with White Herb.
and Breloom with Black Belt.

Any idea why it wouldn't let me participate?

Volcarona isnt in the Kalos Dex. Check here to make sure that when you add a team member that they are found on this page.

Hey I would like some help if possible. Any ideas on a way to counter a Sylvion? i know Poison or steel type. but im not sure which to choose?

Either one works, but if you want to OHKO or 2HKO it, you're going to need a pretty powerful physical poison or steel move. My specially bulky Sylveon can take a few special super-effective hits before dying. Poison Jab and Iron Head are the two moves that I see most often that are used to counter my Sylveon. Special-attacking Gengar with Sludge Bomb can also destroy Sylveon, especially if you can Mega Evolve on it and trap it with Shadow Tag. So my recommendations are Mega Aggron or Mega Scizor with Iron Head, special Mega Gengar with Sludge Bomb, or something with Poison Jab, like Gliscor, Sheer Force Nidoking, or Scolipede.

Mega Scizor with Iron Head, special Gengar, or something with Poison Jab, like Gliscor, Sheer Force Nidoking, or Scolipede.

Iron Head's not really worth it for Scizor. Bullet Punch is the superior option, as although it's slightly weaker even after Technician, its priority cannot be ignored. Choice Band Scizor is a guaranteed 1HKO on Sylveon, while Mega Scizor can still potentially 1HKO as well. Both variants fear nothing except the rare Hidden Power fire, which has a chance to 1HKO from offensive Sylveon (which are rarer), but only 2HKO without investment (which, considering the 4x weakness, is saying something).

Poison Jab's not really seen on Gliscor ever, either, and given Gliscor's physically defensive, Sylveon can potentially 2HKO it if it tries to switch in, making it ineffective as a counter. Gengar 2HKOs all but max special defense Sylveon with Sludge Bomb, but has to be wary of the rare Psyshock as well, which can 2HKO it (although this is typically only seen on offensive variants).

Metagross deals with Sylveon pretty easily, given Meteor Mash can 1HKO without a boost (from items or otherwise) all but max defense Sylveon. Assault Vest Metagross really fears nothing at all from Sylveon, as even HP Fire with max SpA investment is only a 4HKO.

If it's carrying Iron Head, Aegislash will crap all over Sylveon with little effort, as Sylveon can't break through Shield Form's impenetrable defenses even with max SpA investment and Shadow Ball.

Both Aggron and Mega Aggron will ruin Sylveon, although a VERY RARE Hidden Power Ground or Fighting will ruin the former on the switch. If it Mega Evolves though, Sylveon can only 4HKO even with max SpA investment.

Mega Mawile 1HKOs it so hard that it cannot survive an Iron Head even with max physical bulk investment.

In general though, most Sylveon don't run max SpA investment or even much outside of Hyper Voice. It's primarily used as a wall/cleric, so it's not that hard to deal with. To that end, if you really want to cripple it, you can always Trick a choice item onto it or something. It hates that.

on the Gengar and Aegislash what natures do you recommend or does it really matter?

Try not to double-post; you'll get infracted for it. There's an "Edit post" button on the bottom right-hand side of your posts; use that instead.

In reply to what KillerDraco said about using Trick to put Choice Items on Sylveon, I would NOT recommend putting a Choice Specs on Sylveon. Sylveon is mainly used as a wall and cleric, yes, but it also has massive Special Attack even when uninvested in them. My Sylveon on my team has NO Special Attack EVs and still does massive damage with Hyper Voice. I once had Trick used on my Sylveon and was given Choice Specs. Late-game, Sylveon didn't even care and ripped through the opposing team with a now-boosted Hyper Voice and completely obliterated everything. If you're going to give it a Choice item, either Scarf or Band it, but don't put Choice Specs on it.

On Gengar, Timid or Modest, depending on if you want it to be fast or more powerful, and almost every Aegislash I've encountered is Brave.

Gengar should always be Timid. Always. The extra power means jack schitt if youre outsped by everything. As for Aegislash, if you want mixed: Quiet. If you want full out special: Modest. Mixed is the best option, though.

Seeing as how he has decent SpD is there any merit to running Will-o-wisp on Gallade to patch him up the physical side?

If so what would be a good set for that?

Also curious about an assault vest set..

One could try to make a defensive set with Gallade, but Gardevoir has an infinitely better typing for that role. Not ruling it out, but gardevoir pulls it off better imo.

It would probably be something like Wish | Will-O-Wisp | Protect | Drain Punch, but that has the issue of being walled by Ghosts.

As for AV, I think it's pretty popular in RU right now. Most Gallades I face are the Substitute wallbreaker set, but I have seen a few semi-effective AV Gallades.

I want to get back into competitive battling. Any advice on where I should start?

That's a difficult question to answer. Naturally, you'll want to familiarize yourself with the current metagame, so the latest usage statistics can hep you learn what the most popular Pokemon in OU are at the moment, as well as Pokemon that are commonly used with/against each threat. You can also find the current banlist right here. In terms of actually putting things to practice, battle simulators are popular for using things before/without breeding (which is actually pretty easy this gen). This is kind of a broad answer, but the usage statistics are definitely a good place to start.
