Ofc it would. It’s the biggest dumpster fire the anime has ever produced. And it all essentially started with them cancelling TR vs TP and then rewriting the entire plotline after that to fit BW2 (talk about bad timing for announcements on it lul)
As I recall, TR vs. TP was cancelled because of a natural disaster. If there hadn’t been an earthquake in Japan, the arc wouldn’t have been cancelled and hastily rewritten.
For me it started when Ash lost against Trip and when he forgot how to catch a Pokemon lol
It was but there was essentially another reason for that which I mentioned, it was basically the announcement of BW2. Why do you think we never had TP appear until post-Unova League? If we take away the 2011 earthquake part from existence, the original plot would’ve stayed the same along with the original TP like you basically said, but since it happened and caused them to get cancelled, it was rewritten, and BW2 also provided the perfect way to rewrite the plot as if nothing happened. Still doing their job as promoting the games but leaving a very noticeable difference from the beginning and then middle to end.

Yeah Pikachu will be the one to win the battle but there's no reason Lucario or Gengar can't show off a new move or two
