Ash (stupidly) doesn't go to every location during his trips, so all the island focuses have been fairly small the first time though.

Each island arc is only 2-5 episodes, Poni will be the same.

He could have done Poni during Ash's trip to Ula'Ula. I imagine he's already done Melemele by now.

But that’s not exactly been his goal. He only did the grand trial on Akala, to use his grandfather’s z ring

Guessing Mina reveals that Poipole misses it's family and that is what leads Ash to release it back to Ultra Space a la Lapras back in the day.

Except with Lapras you knew from the moment it was caught that it did have a family, where as there is nothing that really suggest it had a family before meeting Ash and if the opening was telling Poipole's story then it means that Poipole was alone in a dark world, plus I wouldn't be that surprised if Mina reveals that Poipole considers Ash and his pokemon as it's family.

Not really sure what you are arguing here, I did say reveal meaning we find out about it for the first time. I also didn't say that it was gonna be EXACTLY like Lapras, just that Ash would release it back there to be with it's family, which as of right now, is still the plan. In Ash's mind right now, he is only keeping Poipole until they find the right portal.

this episode could change that, if it views Ash and his pokemon as family, then Ash won't send it back unless it truly wants to go back by it's own accord.

Looks like that Mina will have a Ribombee here. It's already sounding like that Poni is getting close and maybe we can see Ash ask about the 'Radiant One'. I don't think that Mina will know too much about that one either and that could be a justifaction for sending Ash to Poni Island.

Yeah that's what I mean by the 'Radiant One'. But it looks like it's in its Ultra Form. Not too sure if Mina will reveal it as Necrozma but maybe she'll guess it is as foreshadowing.

It's nice to see Poipole considers the professors' as its family, too.

Back when we were still only just getting into the UG stuff, I was worried Poipole would only end up liking Pikachu due its love of light, but it does care for Ash as well (as evidenced in the Minior episode when it went to Ash for comfort). This is a nice bonus.

It's funny, we joke that Ash finally has a dad in Professor Kukui (and a new mom in Burnet. Delia who?), but you could argue Poipole is his kid. Add Nebby in that mix, and Ash has adopted two sons.

I'm just glad it even considers Munchlax as a part of its family. You'd think since it does, it would appear more often though, at least in every episode where its Trainer appears. And it is nice that it likes Ash as well as Pikachu, because unlike Pikachu, Ash can't make it like him by showing of Electric attacks. And did I miss something, because when did it draw a picture on the beach? Was it in SM078?
