Pokémon Black & White - Autumn Friendly

A new WiFi tournament has been announced for all non-Japanese players. This tournament, the 2012 Autumn Friendly, is open to all players with Pokémon Black & White. Registration opens at 00:00 UTC on Thursday September 6th and ends at 23:59 on Thursday September 13th. The tournament itself runs from September 14th through to September 17th. There are 50,000 spots available within this tournament and it runs the usual tournament rules; Double Battles with Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Chatot, Celebi, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem and Keldeo blocked. We'll notify when registration goes live

A tournament that we can all take place in from the convenience of our own homes. I guess rules would probably be something important, so I'll include those. For those familiar, they are exactly the same as the rules for the 2012 VGC Tournament.

Standard Format Style
All sanctioned Pokémon video game tournaments require players to assemble a team of Pokémon, with items,
prior to the start of the event. The standard format style for all PLAY! Pokémon tournaments is Double Battle.

5.1. Double Battle
In Double Battles, each player selects four Pokémon from his or her party of six to battle with. At the
start of the battle, players send out the first two Pokémon in their party, making a total of four Pokémon
on the battlefield. Game play continues until a player knocks out all four of his or her opponent’s
Pokémon.
6. Standard Team Construction Rules
When building a team for a PLAY! Pokémon tournament, all players must adhere to these standard construction
rules.
A player’s team cannot contain two Pokémon with the same Pokédex number
Each Pokémon on a player’s team can hold an item, though no two Pokémon may hold the same item
A player’s team cannot contain two Pokémon with the same nickname
A player’s team cannot contain a Pokémon nicknamed with the name of another Pokémon (for example,
an Unfezant named “Pidove”)
Pokémon may only use moves that have been learned through one of the following methods:
o By leveling up
o By TM or HM
o As an Egg move, through breeding
o From a character in the game
o A move already known by a Pokémon received at an official Pokémon event or promotion

The Modified format is the standard tournament format for PLAY! Pokémon video game events. This format will be used at all premier events unless specified otherwise. The Modified format for the 2011–2012 season will use the following restrictions:
Only Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version Game Cards are permitted for use.
Players may use Pokémon from the National Pokédex, from No. 001–646, that are caught in the
game, transferred from a previous Pokémon title, or received at an official event or distribution
The following Pokémon may not be on a player’s team:
o 150 – Mewtwo
o 151 – Mew
o 249 – Lugia
o 250 – Ho-Oh
o 251 – Celebi
o 382 – Kyogre
o 383 – Groudon
o 384 – Rayquaza
o 385 – Jirachi
o 386 – Deoxys
o 483 – Dialga
o 484 – Palkia
o 487 – Giratina
o 489 – Phione
o 490 – Manaphy
o 491 – Darkrai
o 492 – Shaymin
o 493 – Arceus
o 494 – Victini
o 643 – Reshiram
o 644 – Zekrom
o 646 – Kyurem
Pokémon must be placed in the Battle Box.
Pokémon above level 50 are permitted, but they are auto-leveled down to 50 for the duration of battle.
Players may use Pokémon with Hidden Abilities that have been officially released via Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version, the Pokémon Global Link, or an official event or promotion.
Pokémon may not know the moves Sky Drop or Dark Void.
The Wonder Launcher cannot be used during battle.

Also, Black 2 and White 2 will not be useable for this tournament, nor are any Pokemon that are bred/learn moves only in Black 2 and White 2.

I'm probably screwing myself over by saying this, but I figure most people will not be very familiar with the Double Battle Format. If you noticed, there are no tiers. This isn't a Smogon-run tournament, which means there will be a huge difference between what most Competitive Players are used to, along with the fact that there is a big difference between Singles and Doubles.

If you plan on entering, might I suggest taking a look into VGC-style battling. It's the best practice for Double Battles in this format, since a lot of the main threats will probably carry over.

If you have any particular questions, you should definitely ask.

I'm entering, for sure. I entered the previous wifi tournaments, and I intend to enter this one. I've even gotten a team together, and I'm testing them out now, making sure they all work well together.

This will be my first tournament. I feel strange coming back to Pokemon as a 24 year old having graduated college and just now getting back into the competitive scene, but I'm looking forward to it. I'll be waiting on the 6th to get in as soon as Registration opens.

I'm going to be using my experience here to tell me whether or not I should head on to the regionals for VGC 2013. In random match-ups my teams and strategy has been dominant enough that I've gathered some confidence and am looking forward to some quality battles. My team's extremely risk-v-reward though so it'll be all adrenaline over the weekend: just the way I like it.

I'm in. With the first one I didn't have Wi-Fi and with the next two it stopped working halfway through the tournament. Haven't played doubles in a while - I've been trying to beat Ingo on the Super Single Line.

I am definitely entering! I love VGC Style rules, and this is the closest thing I can get to VGC since I don't live in the States. I think I said this exact thing on all the other Wi-Fi Tournaments, hahah. XD

But yeah, I'm definitely going to. I finally settled in on a team I really want to run (after going through about three that I didn't really feel were very strong), so I'm excited to get them all bred and ready to go. I guess in the meantime, while waiting for them to breed, I'll work on the spreads, to make sure everything's up to snuff.

Hahah fair enough. Doubles isn't really for everyone.

How is everyone coming along with their teams? Personally, I've gotten 4 of 6 Pokemon bred, with one being all the way done.

I'll try to join. I'll be off elk hunting during the first four days of registration, so it depends on if there's still any slots available when I get back. Since I won't have time to build a new team (this Autumn Friendly caught me by surprise), I'll be sticking with the team I used in the last two previous competitions. I might switch out a pokemon or two to mix things up, but it will mostly be the same team and strategy.

Well i want to enter this one mainly cuz i've been wanting to play competitively for a long time but never had the chance, i may not be experienced nor good at it but i wanna know how everything works and little by little gain some experience ><

I have a team figured out more or less, now i just need my second DS (most likely i'll buy it tomorrow) an i can start what i have planned x)

Hope you can! You've done so well the past few tournies; it'd be a shame if you couldn't this year (although for elk hunting? Not a bad trade off haha). I'm excited to (maybe) see the ideas you concoct; you've got some crazy good team building skills.

Hope it all goes well for you! These Wi-Fi tournies are definitely a good place to start. I personally did, and I'd like to say I've got a fair grasp on Competitive Battling since.

Even though i never played competitivly i play pokemon since it first came out but never paid attention to competitive stuff but since last year i've been watching lots of poketubers batling and reading some articles so i hope i have some knowledge to win at least a game xD (believe me... that would be awesome for me)

Hahaha I wouldn't say well, seeing as I'm not 100% sure of my actual prowess as a trainer, but I do have good bearing in terms of Competitive Battling. I really need to practice more, haha.
