"The Avatar must be compassionate towards all people, and the only way to do that is to live with them. The Avatar must experience sadness, anger, joy, and happiness. By feeling all these emotions, it helps you understand how precious human life is, so you will do anything to protect it."
- Avatar Yangchen to Avatar Aang
- Avatar Yangchen to Avatar Aang
The year is 324 AG and over one hundred years have passed following the defeat of Kuvira's army by Avatar Korra. In the years that followed, the world existed in relative peace, with humans and spirits living in harmony. Following the death of Korra, the Avatar spirit was reincarnated into Daishi of the Earth Kingdom.
The new Avatar was not as gifted at the bending arts as his predecessor was, and it took him many years to become "fully realised", during which he married and had children. The first major incident he experienced was an attempted uprising in Republic City, which escalated from a protest by a small group of earthbenders, who sought to see the small nation bought back into the Earth Kingdom.
Thanks to the efforts of Avatar Korra before him, most of Daishi's life was a simple and untroubled one. Besides the odd uprising and squabble within the four nations, his was a time of relative peace. Trouble started brewing around the time of 290 AG, when there was a sudden increase in criminal activity within the Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom. Whilst Daishi was able to put a stop to the initial threats, the growing number of them, coupled with his poor health, lead to him relying more and more on the police force and independent benders. In 295 AG, three years before his eventual death, Daishi was publically ridiculed, when he was unable to subdue a known criminal in Senlin Village.
Following said incident, he retired from the world, only ever making his appearance during gatherings of the United Republic Council. Though Daishi claimed his withdrawal from the world was due to poor health, there were many who believed it was to spare himself from further ridicule.
In early 298 AG, Daishi was found dead in his home, following what was presumed to be a botched raid. Despite his many failures as Avatar, many around the world grieved for him, and a small neighbourhood with Republic City was named in honour of him, following his passing.
As with the passing of all avatars, soon after his death, members of the Order of the White Lotus began their search for the next avatar. However, during this time, a small group calling themselves the "Order of the Red Sun" began spreading rumours throughout the nations that the avatar cycle had been broken, and therefore there would be no new avatar. They named themselves after the Red Lotus and the ancient Sun Warriors, an act which was widely condemned by many, due to the formers actions in recent years. Amongst their claims, they believed that the Fire Nation should become the supreme power in the world, since the next avatar would've been born within the nation should they have existed.
As with most groups of their kind, their beliefs were widely dismissed by the world, but after sixteen years passed, and there was still no sign of an avatar, many believed they were telling the truth. With a recent surge in power, the order has begun to become a dominant force within the world. Most of their dominance lies within the Fire Nation, due to many of their members originating from there, and their ties to the royal family.
Now the year is 324 AG, and tensions are brewing within the four nations. The Order of the Red Sun continue to exercise their power, leading some to believe that they rule the Fire Nation, with the current royal family in a state of disarray following the abdication of two heirs to the throne.
As the world holds its breath to see if we are about to be drawn into another war, a small splinter group of the White Lotus, simply going by the title of "The Armed Forces of the White Lotus" has sprung up. They have never given up hope that the avatar is out there, and to this day, they continue to search for them.
And that is where you come in. You are one of several gifted benders and non-benders, drafted into the group in order to form an elite task force to help locate the possible avatar. Your goal is to trace potential leads and put a stop to the looming threat of the Order of the Red sun.
| INFORMATION |
So that concludes the plot and intro portion. If you haven't guessed already, your character will be one of several individuals drafted in to form this elite task force, and our journey begins as we travel the base of operations in the Earth Kingdom. What your character did prior to this, though I would ask that you keep it within the realm of the Avatar universe, and don't go for something outlandish. In regards to the setting of this RP, it will be much like that of the show in regards to being heavily inspired by Asian culture, but there will be certain aspects of fashion, architecture, and technology that are inspired by that of the 1950s/1960s shining through.
Bending
Bending is the ability to manipulate an element and is significant to many aspects of life in the World of Avatar. There are five known bending arts; four of them bend a specific physical element while the fifth bends the energy within the human body itself. The four elemental bending arts are based on the four classical elements, water, earth, fire, and air, and each is manipulated through certain martial art styles which are reminiscent of the qualities of the element itself. While bending is traditionally performed through the motions of one's hands and feet, certain benders are able to effectively manipulate their element with only minimal movement of their body, such as by using just their head or torso. In even rarer cases, benders are able to perform their bending without the aid of any physical movement at all, by instead using sheer focus and force of will, a skill known as psychic bending. Each element is also associated with a particular nation in the world; the Water Tribe corresponds with waterbending, the Earth Kingdom with earthbending, the Fire Nation with firebending, and the Air Nomads with airbending. However, other bending affiliated groups exist, such as the Foggy Swamp Tribe for waterbending and the Sun Warriors for firebending.
The fifth bending art, energybending, is unlike the other four in that little physical action is required to direct the bending itself. The four elemental bending arts are all dependent on the energy, or chi, within the human body, relying on its flow through the body to manipulate a specific element. A person is able to bend when they extend the influence of their chi beyond the body to interact with the environment. Energybending, on the other hand, is concerned with the manipulation of the energy itself and is able to remove or grant bending abilities.
Though each nation is affiliated to a specific bending art, not all citizens from any nation, with the exception of the Air Nomads, are born with the ability to bend an element. In the case of mixed marriages, the children may be benders of either element if they are benders at all. The only case of any one person being able to bend multiple elements is the Avatar, who has the ability to practice all five bending arts.
- Airbending is the bending art used by the Air Nation; the flying bison were the original airbenders. It concentrates on speed and evasion, forgoing a strong offense for a greater defense. Though apparently lacking fatal finishing moves, it is the most dynamic of all the bending arts. As the element of freedom, airbenders use their capability to bend unencumbered by the ground or any other environmental factors and use their own momentum as a weapon, evading attacks with astounding agility to tire their opponents out or building up massive inertia for explosive gusts of wind to make their counterattacks finishing moves. Airbenders, when resorting to physical confrontation, are able to harness the immense and intangible power of wind. Airbending's opposite is earthbending and the confrontational style that serves as its foundation. Airbenders can use a flight technique by operating a glider and using the air to provide thrust and lift. After the art was almost wiped from existence, the only airbender left was Avatar Aang, until his son, Tenzin, and three grandchildren later inherited the ability. Airbending also resurfaced in a number of nonbenders following the Harmonic Convergence of 171 AG, further reviving the almost extinct bending art. The sub-skills of airbending are flight and spiritual projection. Flight has only been achieved by two people in the entire history of airbending, namely Guru Laghima and Zaheer. Airbending is the element of freedom and its season is autumn.
- Waterbending is practiced by some people of the Water Tribe. It is not only the most versatile element, but also one of the more unique bending arts, as the first benders did not learn from an animal instead from the Moon, the first waterbender. Similar to their element, waterbenders are extremely adaptable and versatile. Waterbending concentrates on the flow of energy and focuses less on strength and more on turning the opponent's own energy against them. While a bender's victory in battle depends on their skill or ingenuity, waterbenders, unlike other benders, gain a serious advantage or disadvantage depending on the amount of water around them, although highly skilled waterbenders can draw water from anywhere; they can draw humidity from the air and bend the water in living things, especially plants. As the element of change, waterbenders can fluidly and quickly alternate from defense to offense, from a wall of ice to a jet of water, turning their opponent's strength against them. The opposite of waterbending is firebending, with its relatively stagnant, direct philosophy. Due to its lunar sympathy, waterbending is stronger at night and ineffective during a lunar eclipse or when the Moon Spirit dies. However, to counter waterbending's ineffectiveness during a lunar eclipse, waterbenders gain immense power during the peak of the full moon. The sub-skills for waterbending are healing and bloodbending. Waterbending is the element of change and its season is winter.
- Earthbending originates in the Earth Kingdom, and it demands a special connection with the earth that is achievable with neutral jing, listening, though seemingly doing nothing, and waiting for the right moment to strike. The first earthbenders were badgermoles. Like waterbenders, earthbenders gain an advantage or disadvantage in battle based on the amount of earth around them, though the conditions are not as extreme. Because of their element's stability and its stress on neutral jing, earthbenders stand their ground, absorbing or intercepting attacks until they completely overwhelm their opponents. Unlike the other bending arts, earthbending's strength equally lies in both offense and defense. Earthbending is in stark contrast to airbending as airbending's emphasis is on evasion and mobility while earthbending's emphasis is on fortitude and strength. The sub-skills for earthbending are seismic sense, metalbending, and lavabending. Earthbending is the element of substance and its season is spring.
- Firebending is used by the people of the Fire Nation and is the most aggressive bending art. Dragons were the first firebenders; they subsequently taught the Sun Warriors. Unlike other benders who depend on external sources of their elements to bend, firebenders can create fire using their internal heat source in addition to controlling already existent flames. As the element of power, firebenders have to be able to maintain a constant source of energy and balance in battle, unleashing a volley of direct, successive attacks. Firebending's relatively simple and direct style contrasts the complex and changing style of waterbending. Due to its solar affinity, firebending is stronger during the day and at its full power at noon, but completely ineffective during a solar eclipse. When a comet passes close to the planet, the power of a firebender is greatly increased. For a long time, disciplines of firebending were taught to be fueled by hatred, as opposed to the original source. Skilled firebenders are able to fly using powerful jets of flames. The sub-skills for firebending are combustionbending, generating and redirecting lightning. Firebending is the element of power and its season is summer.
- Energybending is the art of bending the energy within one's body. It existed in the era of Raava and the four bending arts, though was considered lost. It is a highly dangerous technique; if one's own energy is impure and therefore bendable, the practitioner will be consequently destroyed. Few Avatars have learned this bending art, and even fewer have used it. Energybending allows the user to remove other people's bending abilities, or restore them after a bender had their abilities blocked by bloodbending.
A list of specialized bending techniques can be found here.
Order of the Red Sun
The Order of the Red Sun is a global militant organisation, founded by Huo Li in 299 AG, one year after the death of Avatar Daishi. The order's agenda is to see the Fire Nation declared the supreme power across the globe. They push their beliefs primarily under the claim that the avatar cycle was broken following Daishi's death. Whilst primarily made up of firebenders, the order allows people from other nations to join them, permitting they share their beliefs.

- Post as often as you can! I know most people have their own thing going on in their personal lives, but this is one of those RPs that is fun if you keep up with it.
- Swearing is allowed as this is rated 'PG-16', but please don't abuse it. I know some characters will swear a lot, just don't use it as an excuse to have them swear in every sentence.
- Romance/sexual stuff is fine with me, but don't go overboard. We're not here for that. We're here to find the Avatar!
- Also, and I can't stress this enough, please make it appear realistic during fight scenes. I know there is magic involved, so it isn't going to be exactly identical to real life, but don't make it so you character gets punched and is barely affected by it.

Name: Fareeha Tanaka
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Class: Airbender
Appearance:
Fareeha is a fairly average woman in terms of height and weight. She stands at around 5'6'', and weighs a little under 117 lbs. Years spent training as a dancer, however, has given her a well-built physique. She has particularly good muscle definition on her legs (especially around her calves) and upper arms. Due to her Water Tribe descent, Fareeha has tan skin, rather than the paler complexion Air Nomads have. It is relatively smooth and unblemished, besides the odd healed scar. Fareeha considers herself to be quite plain looking in regards to her facial features. She has a heart shaped face, with thin slightly upturned lips, a button nose, and narrow, olive green eyes. Out of all her features, she views her eyes to be her best, and often wears eyeliner to make them stand out more. Fareeha's hair is black, like that of her mother, and she usually keeps it in a bun, with two strands of hair slightly pulled down at the sides of her face. When loose, her hair falls to just past her shoulders, and his straight and glossy.
In regards to clothing, Fareeha dresses quite plainly, like many Air Nomads. Whilst she doesn't abide by many rules of their society, she a deep respect for their culture and lifestyle choices, and this is reflected as such in her clothes. Most of her wardrobe consists of outfits in brown, orange, and saffron yellow, which are colours generally associated with Air Nomad culture. Her preffered outfit consists of a loose yellow shirt, with a loser orange shawl over the top of it. Said shawl is said to be inspired by those worn by young Air Nomads. On her lower half, she wears loose fitting bottoms in a shade of darker orange, striped in yellow towards the lower half of the legs. On her feet she tends to wear black pumps.
Fareeha is also in possession of an Airbender wingsuit which she bought with her upon joining the task force.
Personality: A kind, compassionate woman, Fareeha tries to find the good in every person she meets, even if they aren't deserving of such treatment. Her nearly blind trust in others has caused her trouble in the past, often leading to heartbreak, or in the most extreme case incarceration. Still, despite said things, she remains an optimistic force, always willing to look on the bright side of things. However, despite her optimistic and compassionate persona, she can sometimes come across to others as a bit foolish and spacey, but has been known to have moments of clarity and intelligence.
In her youth, she was known to be somewhat unmotivated and a little lazy, which is something which continues to plague her to this day. She dislikes being pushed into situations she is not comfortable in, and continued attempts at trying to force her into something she does not wish to do, will see her mood sour. Such a reaction occurred during her youth, and eventually lead to her rebelling against her father and his attempts to push the Air Nomad culture on her. Fareeha is a firm believer in "learning from your mistakes", and it was this that lead her to being more open to learning about Air Nomad Culture. Whilst she continued to struggle with finding her motivation, she was eventually able to latch on to certain aspects that caught her interest, and was able to find the more light-hearted side of her mentor Guru Tashi. As time has passed, she has come to love her culture more and more, and whilst she could never become a full nomad, due to a general unwillingness to commit to such a lifestyle at this time, there are certain beliefs she upholds. She also frequently meditates to focus her energies, and is keen to encourage others to do so as well, even if they are from a different nation to her.
History: Fareeha was born in mid 302 AG to her parents in Republic City. Her father was the non-bender son of two renowned airbenders in the city, and is a famous public speaker himself. Her mother was born in the Northern Water Tribe, but at some point in her life she emigrated to Republic City, where she met Fareeha's father and quickly fell in love with him. Fareeha does not remember much about her mother, as she sadly passed away when she was only six, leaving both her and her father heartbroken. However, she does have a small number of photographs of her mother, meaning her mother was never forgotten completely.
From a young age, Fareeha's airbending abilities were very prominent, leading her father to plan for her future early in her life. Whilst a young Fareeha spent her days playing throughout her family's manse, her father was plotting out her entire life for her. At the age of ten he planned to have her properly hone her bending under the teachings of a guru, and then once she was old enough, he planned to encourage her to make a permanent move to one of the Air Temples and declare herself to be a true Air Nomad. Of course, Fareeha was aware of none of this, and soon after her tenth birthday, she willingly began to train under the guidance of Guru Tashi. For two years, Fareeha went about her training completely unaware of her father's plans, until one day, after struggling to master a new technique, Tashi teased that she wouldn't make a good nomad. Curious what he meant, she pressed her teacher to tell her more, leading him to believe that she was already partly aware. When she learnt about the full extent of her father's plans, she was shocked, and was unable to believe. It was only after returning home and finding documents belonging to her father that she realised and understood what he had done. A few days later, she confronted her father about his plans, and their small talk rapidly turned into a heated argument.
Following the confrontation, Fareeha's relationship with her father drastically changed. She was extremely bitter towards him, and fought with him much more, often citing a breach in trust between them for her bad behaviour. Her behaviour also changed towards Guru Tashi, and she frequently skipped out on her lessons or misbehaved in them as an act of rebellion towards her father. Eventually she stopped going altogether, strongly believing she would be able to learn more on her own.
When she was fourteen, Fareeha met a group of orphans who lived on the streets in Republic City, and became close with their leader, Genji. The group were impressed with her airbending skills, and welcomed her with open arms. For the first time in a long time, Fareeha felt she could actually be herself. When made aware of her growing friendship with the group, her father was quick to speak against it, describing them as little more than petty thieves, and unless she wanted to spend her life in jail, she'd do well to stay away. Fareeha was to fire back that she wouldn't trust a word of what her father said.
Her father's warning became more frequent the more time she spent with the group, and all of them continued to fall upon deaf ears. The more he asked he to stay away, the more time she spent with them. However, as time went by, she did begin to have her suspicions about them, especially when she found a number of stolen items. Genji promised her it wasn't as bad as it seemed, and that they only stole off of those who deserved it. Fareeha, unable to believe that Genji would lie to her, hesitantly agreed that he was doing the right thing.
Sometime between her sixteenth and seventeenth birthdays, she and Genji entered into a romantic relationship. Genji wanted her to help with their stealing, and though hesitant to do so at first, Fareeha soon relented and underwent training to ready herself. Soon after her seventeenth birthday, Fareeha was taken on her first crime, serving as the getaway driver. Although she did not ask questions at first, she was shocked to discover that their victim had been an old friend of her family, and someone who Fareeha was certain did not deserve this. Once the group returned, their stolen items in tow, Fareeha was tasked with getting them out of there. It did not take long for the Republic City police to be on their tails. As they were escaping, Fareeha attempted to ask Genji why they had stolen from her friend, and much to her disdain continued to be brushed off. As her irritation grew towards Genji, and the pressure of the situation began to effect her, Fareeha ended up crashing the car. As Genji and some of the other orphans began to escape, he turned to Fareeha and begged her to stay and take the fall for them, promising her that if she did, he would get her out again and explain why they had robbed her friend. Fareeha agreed, and as Genji and the others escaped, she willingly gave herself over to the police.
For three days she waited in jail, until eventually, her father bailed her out. After arriving home, Fareeha expressed her hurt about Genji not coming back for her, and apologised to her father for allowing things to get this far. What followed was a very frank and open conversation between them, involving both of them owning up to their mistakes, and apologising to one another. Eventually the two of them made up, though it was clear things would never be as they once were.
In the years that followed, Fareeha continued to train under the guidance of Guru Tashi, and came to be a firm believer in meditation. She wanted to turn her life around and forget about that period of her life with Genjo, and she was determined to be an airbending master. As her skills continued to progress, Tashi asked her if she had given more thought over whether she wanted to be a full nomad or not. Fareeha admitted that she wasn't ready at that moment in her life, but that she would consider it for the future. At the age of twenty, Fareeha joined a local dance troupe in Republic City, where she rose through the ranks to become the head dancer. It was only recently that she decided to join the resistance. With the order's influence over Republic City growing larger by the day, Fareeha knew something had to be done, and she signed herself up. Unknown to her, her former mentor, Guru Tashi, had mentioned her airbending prowess to a high-ranking official in the order, and she was suggested as a potential member of the elite task force.
