I wonder how the side-characters are going to be, if they even exist...

And already knowing 3/4 elements? I can't see this going past the first season, 2 seasons may be doable, but 3 episodes seems insane. That is assuming that there isn't some kind of plot twist that could elongate the series. Like each nation having their own mini "Fire Lord" that she has to beat or something.

Actually having her already know three bending styles was a good choice in my opinion. If we had her going from nation to nation trying to find teachers to teach her each bending style it would basically be a knock-off of the original series and would be uninteresting. Plus it sounds like the story is starting the second she enters that specific city. Besides, the main conflict happens in the city so having to go through all that again would be unneeded.

Toph was pretty young in the series too, being 80-ish, there is still a chance she can still be alive, or even sokka or katara. I doubt they'd be main characters though, probably just cameos and thats it.

Katara has the highest chance of getting a cameo being Korra's teacher's mother, then Sokka, then Suki, then Toph. Maybe even Zuko at some point since he is/was the Fire Lord.

Oh, how dissapointing. I was hoping for a full season at the least :\

But I'm still pumped, although Late Fall 2011 is a long way off.

*BAD ROMANCE*
i am still pumped for this new series even if it is a mini series.
i am really liking the storyline for it cause i was worried that it would be to much like the original.
i loved the first series so hopefully this one wont fall short of my expectations

That could be complete BS, theres no proof that the creators said it, and if they had announced it they'd make a press announcement..

...Steambenders (especially in a steampunk society) would be totally awesome.

Too bad this new season is just a miniseries and will only be 12 episodes long...
While they consider it a miniseries this is pretty much a whole season. It is possible they only have the green light for 12 episodes and the series could get renewed by the time we're mid-season.
Plus She already has mastery of every element but Air. There's not too much dillydallying needed in this series.

Though I think that would give the creators more opportunity to make a bigger plot or something with more action and such. Her character sounds like it would be one that would highly enjoy fighting and could become very favored.

y couldnt Korra be Aang and Katara's grandchld or something? Koren was the water bending Avatar b4 Aang and Korra sounds like a water tribe name to me, :D hmm, what would the story line be... XD

EDIT: wait was all this already answered? i only read to pg 2 XD

EDIT #2: yep it was XD i fail

also if she is the new Avatar than Aang died at 12+70=82-19=63
12+70=82-13=69 so Aang died before he was 70? Kyoshi lived atleast until she was 180, so Aang dies at 70, doesnt add up, so maybe was he killed/assasinated? hmm...

Aang was 112. Why do people not understand this. He used up all of his Avatar time in the iceberg. That's what the creators said in the interview.

this will be definitely better than the movie to me. it is nice to have a female lead.

Why are so many of you fretting over the near-century lapse from the original series? I think it's great. Having a second series that focuses on the reconstruction after the war would be boring and cliched. After one hundred years, we'll learn about the reconstruction via flashbacks and the like, but I'm hoping it won't dominate the series. One hundred years afterward gives us a fresh enough start to watch a good series.

From what I've heard so far, I'm impressed with how the creators are handling this new series.

I love this. Although it's a little disappointing at first that we might not get as much character development as the original series, it's much better to not have to essentially "re-watch" the original series, except with different characters. Besides, as others said before me, the war is over...learning how to bend the elements shouldn't be as much of a trial anymore.

If this took place only fifteen years later (and I'm assuming that you're talking about continuing to use the original characters as main characters), then there wouldn't be enough material to fill a miniseries. There's only so much you can do within a certain era with the same characters.

Seventy years later gives us a chance to look back on what has happened since we last visited the realm; you can't do as much rebuilding in fifteen years as you can in seventy years. A miniseries that is set fifteen years after would more likely than not be "Yeah, we've come a good way in reconstructing relations and mending damages. Take a look at these places. See how nicely they're coming along?" Seventy years would give a more "final" ending to the series rather than leaving us wondering how things will eventually end up.

@Cain.
It's a miniseries.
15 years or so later would be much better imo.

Andrea Romano in an interview with TMZ said:
Right now we are just making twelve of them and we’ll see what happens.

So it could end up being a full series. I believe someone already said this in this thread too.

Though I'd like to ask how fifteen years would be much better. I can't think of anything they could do with that. :/

How could they have 12 episodes made, and not know if they're going to continue the story or not?
It'd suck if it has a Street Fighter II (Animated Version) ending.

Well let's remember Aang was using the Avatar State continuously for 100 years.

That had to have put a lot of physical strain on his body, cause we do see (though it's not always made clear) using the Avatar State, at least as a defence mechanism rather then deliberately, definitely puts a strain on the Avatar's body.
Aang is weak for a few moments after being released from the iceberg then falls into a deep sleep in the first ep, nearly passes out after he uses the State against Zuko in episode 2, and is left really light headed after joining with the Ocean Spirit. So I'd say the extra physical strain of using the state the way he did for as long as he did is what chopped his life-span down so much.

Heh, he was still biologically 12 years old so that's how he had kids or at least Tenzin.

I like the move of making it a mini-series, it lets use get straight into the story and enjoy more of the story rather then going over her learning the elements as well as trying to fulfil her job as Avatar.

It says they're making the episodes, not that they finished making them ^^ I read somewhere the other day that three episodes are done so far.

But I think the obvious reason that they don't know if they want to continue is because the viewers haven't seen it yet. Sure, everyone is excited, but I think they want a better response after it airs.
