• Hi all. We have had reports of member's signatures being edited to include malicious content. You can rest assured this wasn't done by staff and we can find no indication that the forums themselves have been compromised.

    However, remember to keep your passwords secure. If you use similar logins on multiple sites, people and even bots may be able to access your account.

    We always recommend using unique passwords and enable two-factor authentication if possible. Make sure you are secure.

Just a question but... Why the predetermined avatars only? I don't understand.
On pretty much every other forum using the same system as this one, this dosen't exist. This may be a stupid question but... why no freedom of changing your avatar to whatever you want?

Right. But is that a problem on any other Vbulletin-based forum?
Because as far as I can tell, it dosen't seem to be...

it's been said many times. there are too many members here and if we had custom avatars it would be too much space on the server. plus iirc predetermined avatars are stored differently so they don't take up as much space or something, so even if we got rid of all the predetermined ones it would still be too much.

To just expand on what Ellie said;

This system puts custom avatars INTO the database. Our database is already at Critical Mass, hence the mass lag we had before last year. Having thousands of avatars would over-inflate that database, causing issues and bringing the lag back. We already have issues doing certain functions on the forum and this would make it worse.

Plus, in addition to that, avatars are very tricky to moderate
