Does anyone know why, Azurill- the preevolved form of a water pokemon, marill is nornal and not water type. Also why isn't marill them duel type water/normal?

Because Ice Cream has no bones? Honestly, I think the designers were on crack when they made Azurill, so it doesn't surprise me its a normal type.

Not to mention Azurill is gut-wrenchingly adorable.

But annyoing to obtain as you have to go all that way up Mt pyre to get the sea incense. But it's worth it to see that adorable smile. It's so cute I used one in my cute contests (Hey Cutie) and it ended up with it's portrait in the liycove art gallery for all to enojy it's tear jerking cuteness!

In the anime they weirdly enough use him as a water type!
and i h8 that fact that its normal!

I used mine in a cute contest as well. XD

because

it is MEANT to be a water type by evolving into Marill

however, it is supposed to be highly underdeveloped as a water pokemon, so it is normal, because it cannot properly utilise its water type abilities.

You best believe it

Using that logic, one could say that Pichu shouldn't be a Electric Pokemon becuase it can't use Electric without hurting itself.

true, but can you imagine how much people would complain if that were the case?

it would be like "Gyarados should be dragon :x :x :x All over again o_O"

Thats just the same with azurill people is complaining there to

It bugs me that Azurill is Normal; you'd think logic would dictate its type to be that of its successive stages. At the same time, though, Azurill always struck me as ever-so-slightly reminiscent of such conditions as Foetal Alcohol Syndrome; I say this with no offence intended to any persons out there who may be hurt by me stating so, but the fact is, much like a baby born with the condition, Azurill has certain apparent deficits - it has no arms, for instance (which, I'm aware, comes as no surprise - it serves to make Azurill cuter, really, and obviously a cartoon is going to have no need for arms should the designers decide it hasn't any anyway), its body sort of "tapers" into the tail, rather than there being a clearly defined, developed border, and its type is somewhat less "specialised" or developed than that of Marill. The method with which you obtain the species, too, is suggestive of a condition like Foetal Alcohol Syndrome - one must give an object to one of the parents (albeit the male, if memory serves, and it very well may not but if it's the female then my point will be better, rather than worse, off for it), and this object obviously exerts some kind of influence on the development, or possibly even the conception, of the baby pokémon itself. The fact that it's incense would suggest the fumes have some kind of adverse (which I mean as altering, as opposed to necessarily detrimental) effects on conception/development through the parent's own physiology - much like introduced alcohol in the blood stream filters through the placenta into the blood of the growing foetus in humans, where it acts as a teratogen. The only difference between the two parties (human and Marill line) is that unlike Azurill, Foetal Alcohol Syndromic babies don't grow up to be fully functioning adults - the effects stay with them for life. But, you know, reality isn't so harsh when it's not real.

well, that about sums it up *cough*

i don't know why azuril is normal, but it is a baby pokemon with limited statsm so i suppose normal seems rather fitting.

Pretty much the common theory.
Basically, Azurill cannot swim (Apparently) and cannot utalise it's water based abilities, sure it can fire warer out (Water Gun) but so can Linoone (Water Pulse) so that's not enough.
The fact that it must remain on land at all costs or (Again, apparently) risk drowning, also pushes it away from the water typing.
Using that logic, Pichu would be normal type right? No. Pichu can and will zap you with electricity, hurting itself, yes, but still will, Magby can and will burn you up, Elekid can and will shock you. Azurill will likely cry and run away, it doesn't seem the type to fight half as much as Pichu and co.

Azurill is simply normal. Pichu isn't, neither are the rest of the none-normal type babies, but Azurill, is blue and evolves into a water type, that's really the only claims to the typing it has, and there's mor ein the way of it being water, then there is to make it water, so normal is the only logical explanation.

Whats the point. Normal AND water? Geez, its like a fire and water. Pointless.

Azurill is awesome in little cup. STAB Choice Band Double Edge kills everything that doesn't resist it, IIRC.

I remember this being brought up in 'Pokémon Types you would Change', with similar results.
