background characters

I own the 5th gen
are there any background characters from a particular episode you took interest in? You know, those pieces of scenery that go unnamed, have little to no lines, and are probably lucky to get more than one frame of animation? If so, post about it in this thread (provide a screenshot if you could).

Recently, I was watching "Winner's Cup! Full Battle 6 vs. 6" in Japanese, and took notice of a picture of one of the former champions.

She looks kinda hot, even at that distance, but what's really interesting about her is that, if you look at the lower-right corner of the Kamex's head, that appears to be a tuft of her hair (go here for a slightly larger pic). Looking at her, I can't help wondering if she has any relation with Kaede from the Saiyuu Tournament (I wouldn't be surprised if she descended from a line of damn good trainers).

some people like random background characters. Something could strike them interesting about their design, even though there's practically no way in hell they'll play a bigger part.

It's also interesting when some of them reappear in several different episodes, like that guy with the baseball cap which I don't have a picture of offhand.

actually, it's just that he has THAT much free time on his hands

On topic: Anyone else notice Gary ambling out of the general store just before Ash barges in on "Here Comes the Squirtle Squad?"

That and there's a person in one of the Pacifidlog Contest eps that looks a lot like Chaz, and I was like OMG CHAZ HAS A TWIN BROTHER.

No he doesn't count. Background characters don't speak and rarely move. Sometimes they're not even really there (like person in the picture in Yamato-san's screen shot). They're just their to fill space and...well...create a background.

Actually, judges would fall under same catagory as the freaky woman from "Pokemon Fashion Flash" with the Raichu and Dodrio (I'm just throwing the first example that came to mind). They speak and interact with the major characters but don't have an impact on the episode.

actually, background characters can speak... though, they're usually the random person in the crowd exclaiming "what's going on?" and whatnot. I probably should've been more specific, but yes, those characters that are barely even existant is what I'm going for. If a character's unnamed, but has a somewhat fair number of speaking lines and appears in multiple scenes (judges, the afforementioned gay guy from Scissor Street, the guy from Neon Town that bumped into Satoshi and beat the crap out of Kojirou, the owner of the power plant where Chicorita evolved into Bayleaf, etc.), they probably shouldn't count.

BTW, Big Al, you say "freaky woman"... wasn't he kept a guy in the English version?

Actually I was talking about the freaky woman who was actually in Salon Rocket with Raichu and Dodrio they mamed. Not the transsexual with the Lucky. Though (s)he would also fall in that catagory though.

I don't think the gender was mentioned, but the voice was clearly a man trying to sound female. I always assumed that it was 4Kids adding in the more 'mature' stuff that kids won't get, didn't know it was a man in the original.

Interesting thread, A couple of background characters have caught my attention before, notably the guy in the hooded jacket Heracross mentioned, who even appeared in the first movie in addition to loads of appearances throughout Kanto. Another was the female rocket grunt on the St. Anne, who mostly stood out because of the fact that she was the only girl. She might have been shown in the TR disbandment ep, but I'm not sure if it was the same person. They looked very similar at least.
