Bad experiences with anime.

UN-LTD AWESOME WORKS
Saw some hentai from that troll on that board? Keep getting watched by your parents when you watch Love Hina or Elfen Lied? POST HERE PLZ. :p

For me, I hate it when people keep thinking all animation is for children.

Ugh...to this day there's one experience I will never forget. Back in, I believe ninth grade, our english teacher wanted us to do a presentation for the class. It could be on anything we wanted--even sex (in fact he encouraged the off color stuff since it would keep people's attention more).

Well for me I wasn't sure what to do, but in the end I decided on Tsubasa RESERvoir CHRoNiCLE. The manga had only reached volume three or so in Japan and I absolutely loved it. Seeing as it also had the whole "many characters come together" thing, I thought I could bring up some interesting points in it and my decision became final.

So the next day comes and we head to the computer room. Unlike yesterday though, our teacher had something to do this day and a substitute was given to watch over us. What happened? I was looking for scans of volume covers (because although I owned some of the books, I didn't have scanner myself ^^; ) and out of nowhere, this guy comes up behind me and asks what I'm doing my report on. I tell him the title and then it happens...this loser, OUT LOUD, tells me I probably shouldn't be doing that. That the Japanese are much more perverted and a lot of their cartoons are pretty much soft core porn. What do I do? I try to explain. I tell him that's not true, but he cuts me off and keeps insisting he's correct and that I have no freaking clue what I'm talking about. All the while I can feel my body heating up with rage and embarrassment while everyone sits there staring (and some probably believeing his words and thinking I'm some sicko).

Later that day a boy in my class came over and kinda laughed with me since he watched a few anime and knew that guy was off his rocker, but the whole thing ticked me off. The whole soft core porn thing had spread like wildfire and everyone was talking about me like I was some closet perv. Thankfully the next day my regular teacher came back and let me explain to everyone the truth (he even has a friend who lives in Japan so he understood my situation more than usual), but...gah. To this day that still ticks me off. When I told my parents they were freaking furious. They know there are some pervy shows out there, but they know the ones I watch are fairly clean, not to mention watch a lot of them themselves. *sighs* Stupid people.

MugenKeiji

THERE'S NO $50 HERE!
-Ignoramuses that think anime comes from China.
-People who called it "animated porn" and wouldn't listen to what I had to say to defend it
-Black characters drawn horribly wrong
-Certain character deaths like Sakura's in Key the Metal Idol or Fllay in Gundam SEED. Don't get me started on Minky Momo.
-Dragon Ball Z fans who were stuck in their box to realize other good series, mostly because other characters aren't as strong as Gokuu or everyone has to be compared to some DBZ character.
-The Toonami Revolution, when Toonami started to buy more anime.
-Anti-dubbies. They used unfounded defamation tactics against good dubs like Tenchi by using the networked version as an example of how all dubs are censored and encouraged others to buy Subbed tapes (which is strange because DVD was just making its penetration in the market)
-Stupid people who want to classify their favorite, non-Japanese based properties as "honorary anime", even if it's a regular film. Yes, I know anime is a general term for animation in Japan, but to us the association is with Japanese animation. Like how Band-Aid, the brand is associated with bandage...deal with it.
-Elitist a--holes who judge you by the anime you watch but never take the time to ask you what kind of series you'd be interested in.
-Crossplayers.
-Fangirls who must have their hot boy x boy action, even at the cost of incest and spitting in the face of canon if it's not enough for official yaoi. They outweigh anime fanboys crave the opposite.
-Pro-incest shippers. It's a crime against Darwin. I don't care how "cute" the pairing is.
-Yoshiyuki Tomino

Just a question. Where did you get that gif in your sig?

I can't stand it when people think aall anime is children's stuff. Sure some of it is but anime is very broad regarding age groups. It's that kind of thing that got One Piece, Yugioh, and Sailor Moon(first 2 seasons) to be rather edited.

Another is anti-dubbies. I can't stand it when people deny that the Naruto dub is rather good and frown on any English dub. Like this one guy, he says the Naruto dub constantly sucks and says it's butchered despite the fact that perversion and some of the blood is kept intact.

Now, I don't mind that they tolerate it or simply state that they prefer the Japanese cast yet acknoledge the quality of the dub.

Lastly, subbers. I wish people would stop doing this. It's that kind of thing that's causing the rise of DVD prices.

DVD would be just as high without subbers.

A bad anime experience? Watching the first episode of Dub Piece when it premiered.

Just a question. Where did you get that gif in your sig?
If you're referring to Ridley, he got it from my photobucket.

I suppose I have one bad one. I went to this afterschool program called PAL last year (NOT becuase I'm a trouble maker,my mom had notime to pick me up that year) My friend brought in a manga and it wasn't very... appropriate. (I forget the name, but it's about this guy wizard fellow who teachs at an all girls wizard school *cough*) So the people there say it and now everyone thinks "backwards books" are porno. :/

Pretty much similar to Mugen Keji's list.

Well, mine is not that bad. Right, I have watched Studio Ghible films, and liked the ones I had seen, so I bought Whisper of the Heart thinking it would be just as good. I managed to convince my mum to let my put it on downstairs ont he big TV, and it was so boring, my mum thinks that all anime is for girls and is as boring as that.

She also said that she would not watch it any more. I hate that film now. I will have to make do with my portable DVD player.

Nothing to be done
What scares me about anime? The fans. Thier "shippings", thier limited knowledge of actual Japanese culture, thier Japanglish that they love to throw around, thier love of tasteless harem or shounen franchises, thier disturbing sexual lust for the characters, etc., etc.

Was my post full of glaring generalizations? Absolutely. Are they often true? Absolutely, and no one who has looked around these forums for more than a few minutes can deny that.

Catalyst

Aim for the Top.
Buying anime which is next to the porn section. Cartoon porn springs to mind.

and what does that have to do with subbers?

You make more money when they are spread out at the same price. They need to make more money in order to make up the loss caused by subbers.

I.e.

26-episode series:

3-episode DVDs for first 6 volumes with last 2 with 4 episodes. All at 20$ each

160$

4-episode DVDs for first 5 volumes and the last one with 6 episodes. All at 20$

100$

And where exactly are the numbers showing that subbers make a big enough loss?

They just do that because they want money, not because of losses from such niche things as subbers.
