Banned card?

I've been hearing rumors of a japanese pokemon card that was banned from the us because it had the symbol of the nazis on it, but it was meant to be the good luck symbol in japan. Then I actually saw a picture of the card, is that really that symbol of this nazis on the card?

Nope its not.

When a card is changed to english, they flip the picture round, so the luck (I heard it was peace but luck is good to) symbol turned into the Nazi symbol. So they banned the card, its just a misunderstanding though.

This story started with a Zubat card. Someone noticed what looked like a swastika in the background, and immediately said that the show's affiliated with the Nazis.
True? No.

The image on the card, like the images on all the cards, was flipped for release in America. Japanese comics (*****) are done the same way--the images are flipped so that it reads in the American left-to-right fashion. The image in the card's background wasn't a swastika, but the Hebrew symbol of peace. When Hitler adopted the use of the swastika during World War 2, he flopped the image of this peace symbol to represent the opposite of peace--basically, everything the Nazis stood for. The Japanese card had the symbol for peace, but when flipped, it suddenly becomes the symbol of the Nazi party.

This wasn't intentional on either end, Japanese or American. The swastika wasn't there on the Japanese card, and it was merely an oversight to the American producers of the cards.

And for the record, the card wasn't "banned," it was just printed here with a different symbol.

Don't let an Anime webmaster talk about the TCG. :p

Dogasu is wrong. The card WAS NOT flipped when it came to America - NO Pokemon card is flipped when it comes to America. The symbol was a Nazi symbol in Japan, which apparently meant something else, and was changed when it came here. Some cards don't have anything where the symbol is supposed to be, others have the changed symbol.

I hadn't realized any were printed in English with the "swastika." You would think they would have noticed it before any of them got out... XD

The one I linked to is the "corrected" English version, I should have been more specific. The red symbol in the upper left-hand corner, next to the Ditto, replaced the swastika-looking symbol.

I own the one with the "swastika".

The JPN version of Koga's Ninja Trick does indeed contain the "swastika". In its current position, it is a symbol for peace and it was mass produced as such. I have several copies of this card.

I also exclusively purchased the 1st ed boxes when they came out in the US. All of the US "Koga's Ninja Trick" 1st edition cards that I have feature a hanko, or wax seal imprint, instead of the swastika. WotC was worried that the symbol would not be understood and changed it to the seal, which would have been less offensive. I'm kinda surprised that WotC released any of those cards with the swastika because there was so much controversy about that particular card prior to its release in the US...and more importantly, because I purchased all my boxes directly from the factory and received mine within the initial days of its release on the market.

The Nazis realy piss me off. They take a symbol for peace and warp it and use it as a symbol for war. BTW I have the japenese version of Koga's Ninja Trick.

Another card that was banned on its transition from Japan to America was the Gym Leader's 'Misty's Wish' as the card featured Misty nude - I can't find the pic at the mo... (Shoud keep the Misty fanboys busy)

If we're merely discussing the pictures that were banned, "Sabrina's Glare"'s artwork was also changed for the Gym2 release. The Japanese version features Sabrina(Natsume) with red eyes holding a masterball and an upclose version of her face in the background. The US version features Sabrina merely throwing a Pokeball. WotC thought that most of the Gym2 artwork was too "dark", and most of the artwork, at least color schematic-wise, was changed.

For example, check out Sabrina's Gengar holo from that set. The JPN version features Gengar standing in a creepy graveyard. The US version has erased almost all signs of the gravemarkers.

I thought that that Sabrina's Glare was banned because Sabrina was using her middle finger.

I heard that around the time of Gym2's release in the US as well. If you look at the artwork on the Japanese version, the middle finger is only raised to the knuckle because she has her finger on the circular "release" aspect of the Masterball.

I never thought she was giving anyone the bird.
