Battle Frontier Team Help

Jyou of Snack Road

Cranky Old Man
Okay, so, I'm trying to work up a team for the Level 50 section for the Battle Frontier...

So far, this is who I've got:

Salamence (Level 50, natch)
Sassy Nature
Headbutt
Fly
Flamethrower
Dragon Breath

HP: 184
Attack: 162
Defense: 90
Sp. Attack: 123
SP. Defense: 113
Speed: 116

Ludicolo (Level 50)
Sassy Nature
Astonish
Dive (Looking to replace, but without ideas for what)
Giga Drain
Surf

HP: 158
Attack: 97
Defense: 87
Sp. Attack: 108
Sp. Defense: 125
Speed: 88

Kirlia (Level 25 - working him up!)
Mild Nature
Confusion (replacing with Psychic)
Growl
Double Team
Calm Mind

HP: 58
Attack: 23
Defense: 22
Sp. Attack: 44
Sp. Defense: 37
Speed: 38

The biggest thing I see is that Salamence and Ludicolo are both super weak to Ice type attacks - I've been using a different flying type, but if all I need is a flying attack, Salamence fits that perfectly with Fly (PLUS, he's practical! I can get places with him on my team!)...

What I'm looking for is ideas for other pokemon to help fill out a team, and maybe suggestions for moves. It's been a long time since I've built a pokemon team just for battling, so, I'm feeling all wacky, out of place and whatnot.

Thank you for your time!

What exactly is a Choice Band? o_o;;;

(Just when I think I knew stuff...)

Why is Dream Eater pointless on a Gardevoir?

Why is Aerial Ace better than Fly?

Leech Seed instead of Giga Drain on Ludicolo? What makes that better? And wouldn't having Rain Dance and Leech Seed be a little wonky when Left Overs and Giga Drain work too?

Let's discuss this, here! I am unlearned (obviously) - I can tell you kids how we used to do it back in the day! YEAH, we didn't have any of this "breeding" nonsense, and we all had GAME GENIES to get us our Mewtwos at level five, just so we could glitch the rare candy and level him up to 100 and-

it's a hold item that costs 48 battle points. you may need to take some easy challegenges (first few rounds of battle tower/arena) in order to get the BP for it. it multiplies your physical attack by 1.5, but doesn't let you switch moves, so you're stuck with whatever you pick on your first turn. you can switch out, come back in, and choose a different move though.

Why is Dream Eater pointless on a Gardevoir?

because it's not much stronger than psychic, its effect isn't worth the set-up, and it fails if your opponent wakes up before you use it. also, in a player-vs-player battle, your opponent can switch out the sleeping poke and make your attack fail.

Why is Aerial Ace better than Fly?

deal with pesky double-teamers/things holding brightpowder. has better accuracy even without outside effects, and doesn't let your opponent know the turn beforehand what you're going to do. again, a bigger deal in player-vs-player, but still valid in-game.

Leech Seed instead of Giga Drain on Ludicolo? What makes that better? And wouldn't having Rain Dance and Leech Seed be a little wonky when Left Overs and Giga Drain work too?

possibly the fact that leech seed is the best move in the game. it lets you win stall wars, it hurts your opponent like a burn and essentially acts like a second pair of leftovers, and it's awesome against blissey/snorlax because they have huge amounts of HP for draining.

rain dance makes it double its speed, and powers up its water-type attacks, in addition to essentially making it resist fire.

Choice Band raises a Pokemon Physical Attack Strength by 1.5

Aerial Ace never misses, and it gets Stab if the Pokemon using it is a Flying Type.
Stab means that it gets Power from the Pokemon's Type.

Dream Eater is pointless because it requires you to put the opponent to Sleep first, then you do damage.
In Competitive Battling, the Person will switch, and then use Heal Bell/Aromatherapy to heal the Party's Status conditions, meaning that you have to put the Pokemon to Sleep again, and you will be easy prey if you continue this pattern.

Giga Drain only has 5 PP,if maxed out you get 8 PP,meaning that you will run of Giga Drain quickly.

Leech Seed obviously takes away some HP every turn,it takes about 20 or more HP.

Rain Dance+Leech Seed+Giga Drain would be considered stalling, and stalling abviously fails because the opponents can switch unless you used Mean Look/Spider Web,or have the ability Magnet Pull which Magneton gets.

The only Pokemon that wins by stalling is Shuckle, with it's low Attack,Sp.Attack, and Speed, stalling the opponent with Toxic is the only way Shuckle can win.
Shuckle fears are Steel Pokemon and Crobat's and others with Mean Look and Screech,it's easily countered by Metagross's Meteor Mash, and Crobat Mean Looks Shuckle,Screeches Shuckle and then it gets it's a*s cooked by Crobat's Physical Attacks.

RMT is not a place for learning,it's for Rating Teams.

Go to the R/S/E Faq and ask your questions and concerns there.

to be fair, this is a battle frontier team, so the computer won't predict a fly and switch. and since battles have only 3 pokes, giga drain's 8 PP isn't as much of a problem.

At the risk of being the cranky old guy again, I didn't even KNOW enough to know that I didn't know this stuff, dude.

And asking questions rather than blindly following the advice of people who do know better helps in learning HOW to build a good team - sure a lot of people who helped know what they're doing, but things have evolved a bit since my day (guh, there I go again...) - should a person stop learning simply because it's in the wrong forum for it? No. I've gotten a good idea of what applies, stuff I hadn't thought of from asking questions, and that makes me a better battler because of it.

And isn't that the purpose of a "Rate My Team" section? LEARNING how to be BETTER?
