Battling With Elegance and a Big Smile (867)

MALDREAD
A Much Delayed Mal's Review -

Pros:

* Like how the TV shows Sana gaining fame after her win - the Pokevision and TriPokalons in Kalos have a visible impact
* Serena's enthusiasm to become better
* Well glimpses of the training paying off were visible during that Nene episode, but here too as well
* James's snark towards Jessie
* Bonnie worried about Citron
* Citron rekts the green kid
* Positive thinking is huge in life - it's a good lesson by Elle
* Braixen +1

Cons:

* Wtf...Serena runs away...why??
* Wtf...who designed the green kid?? He looked weird in the OP, but in the episode he looks hideous. Please don't tell me that'll be Ash's Padawan or a league rival. Can't take him seriously
* Serena is plain overreacting. Fennekin and Pancham get into an argument, and despite Serena trying her best to calm them down, they still fight and Fennekin blows up her face. Of course Serena will have an outburst. Don't get why this causes her to run away briefly and then think they don't want to perform with her anymore. Especially after the events of the end of the episode 60
* Wait...WAIT...didn't Serena see Delphox when Clemont's Chespin fought that old man's one in episode 15??
* Battle could have been better

Thoughts:
* Elle is quirky

Definitely not as good as episode 60. But a decent episode in the end despite some shortcomings.

6.5/10

Well at least we know now that Elle isn't a evil person like Harley so there's that. I can't help feeling Serena's gonna get a *****y rival outside of Jessie soon enough though.

Anyways why no new move for Braixen writers?? Not cool.

Lol, I was just about to post that, especially after hearing the Japanese version
I've been feeling that way with the dub in general with their poor score, clunky dialogue, & their interesting choice in voice actors lately (ESPECIALLY SLIGGOO)

I've been a die-hard fan of the dub for years, but XY is really doing a good job of converting me into watching the RAW & SUB versions

Lol did the dub team just think Shota was a regular name for people? Did they not catch the joke?

That voice..Jesus Christ you're supposed to be 10 years old dude

It is nice to see a Serena episode but battling is not really her chosen specialty so it feels like one step forward and one step backwards. We did get some more character building out of it but kind of only broke even overall.

Well, Shota's dub name is Scottie according to bulbapedia. And that dub voice.

I think Shota/Scottie has one of the worst voices for a 10yr old. I give Clemont a pass because he's clearly a bit older than Ash, but Shota's to young to have a voice like that lol.

Even though Shota is supposed to be a beginner, I found his original voice weird. While his dub voice may seem a bit out of place (I'll give the voice actor time to get used to the role before properly judging) it didn't sound too bad and I like it over the japanese voice weirdly enough.

All around this episode was not ruined by dub at all other than the bad title and the usual title card and removed original music. I liked Aria(na) and overall the whole episode left a good taste in my mouth.

Unless they're wrong, that name just fits with Kalos being modeled after Europe... So now we can all pretend he's Scottish.

But yeesh, that voice. At least it's not as nasal as that one guy from the previous league. You know the one.

And speaking of voices, that girl with the Furfrou? That was surely Lisa Ortiz again, and she made the girl sound older than Korrina.

You're lucky, Aria...na, because that call saved your team from being DEM-steamrolled seeing as it took one attack to give all that many scratches to your side.

I lied to you all
I heard Scottie's voice..... Eh, it's not that bad, Shouta's one in the Japanese version is better, but I can get used to hearing it all the time.

Unlike Cameron's voice (just say his name you lot) which sometimes I was alright with, but other times it was too nasally that I got put off.

I personally didn't really see much issue with the voice but weaboo are forever going to hate. This episode was good to me and i really liked "Ariana" , the only thing i didn't like was how Fennekin evolved with little to no build up since the pokemon rarely barely anyone that is not named Team Rocket.

I was expecting it. It learned Flamethrower waaaay too soon and it somehow overwrote Ember when it still had three moves.

This was a decent episode. Very nice to see Serena bond further with her pokemon and even Fennekin evolving.

Platinum fan.

Pokemon have been evolving without much battles since the series started. It's nothing new. Fennekin isn't the first to do this and won't be the last. The problem is when sidekick Pokemon battle a lot they are likely to stay as they are rather then evolve. So Fennekin not battling much to show it's base form is another Pikachu/Piplup probably saved it from sharing their fate of never evolving.

About the episode, I watched it just because I remember liking this episode back when it first aired. Episode was still fine but Fennekin's evolution without Doridori playing just doesn't have the same impact as it did when it first evolved. The music for the evolution was horribly generic. I expected some kind of upbeat theme to play when it evolved. But oh well. Still a nice episode. It's a shame Serena episodes are so few and rare :(

Nice to see Shouta for the first time and too bad Serena and Ellie's had to end like it did.

Good Serena episode. I liked how Serena and Aria(na) have some time alone shopping, but at least Aria(na) gave Serena some advice. The battle at the end was good, but not when it was going to be cut short thanks to a call Aria(na) had. She got a lucky break. Seeing Fennekin evolve into Braixen is nice, too.

Scottie, though, I'm not sure what to think of his voice. Kind of odd how Scottie gets so much talk here when the episode is clearly focused on Serena and Scottie was only up for like 30 seconds.

I really liked Aria/Ariana and how she picked up the spirit that Serena was dragging down. The voice is also good for her, and it makes me hopeful to see Serena and Aria one day have a competition against each other.

Fennekin evolving into Braixen was cool, even though I knew it was bound to happen. I'm looking forward to seeing Braixen in action, too.

Didn't realize that Shota/Scottie appears in this episode for the first time. So the voice came to a surprise. Not terrible, but not memorable.

I laughed when i saw Pancham made the nod when Fennekin had evolved, seemed liked it expected it to happen. The way Ariana was talking to Serena when she was down, made me wonder if Ariana had the same experience when she was just a girl. I think Ariana expects to battle Serena for the Kalos Queen title and she seems pleased about Serena and Braixens evolving.
