Bea, the Lone Warrior! The Grapploct Menace!! (1123)

Kanto is love. Kanto is life.
I doubt that. They've learned before BW even ended that soft rebooting Ash is the worst thing they could do. That's why they tried to throw fanservice to our face with Dawn, Cynthia and Charizard to try and save the rest of that series.
But I do agree that they could easily make Gen 9 be a tougher challenge and include a League again if they want.
I am just thinking about potential the biggest problem of PWC: If Ash gets to Top 8, we will very likely see 1 on 1 battles like Raihan vs Leon and Lance vs Leon and we all know what Pokemon Ash will use. And thing is if that Pokemon beats Leon's Charizard( or other E4/Champion level Pokemon before), he will likely reset in Gen 9 like every region he does( or stay inconsistent), making it all go down the drain. Sure Ash will still have title: the strongest , but he also would need to start "all over" since he's gonna catch new Pokemon and they would be weak and certain yellow Pokemon would likely reset , but he would regain Champion level title in the end of Gen 9.

Pretty sure Ash vs. Leon at least will be a full battle despite all the Master Class battles so far being 1 vs. 1. The writers would definitely want to make a spectacle out of that battle

Can't wait for a quarter of an hour of G-Max Pokemon standing menacingly on the same spots.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of G-Max at all. But it has been very well done in Twilight's last episode. The pokemon had more mobility (Charizard ran towards Duraludon), they felt like actual giant pokemon battling (Charizard's fire attack came out of its mouth, instead of randomly appearing above its head, for instance) rather than just standing there making little to no movements or being clunky and awkard af like in the main anime.

I really hope the main G-Max battles Ash will have in the future look more like Twilight's version, I don't like the loss of dynamic they had so far in the main anime.

I mean, I get your point. But I don't think they'll do a big reset like when they had Pikachu lose to Snivy a few episodes after knocking out a Latios. Maybe the challenge will somehow be even greater (like a region where trainers are stronger than in every other region) or he won't use Pikachu most of the time for important battles, but his new captures. I just don't see them doing the same mistake twice, considering they seem to have learned from it.

Finally got around to watching the episode.
Not gonna lie, I do think that Ash deserved to lose here. As harsh as it sounds, he was being cocky and even though he tried to employ his usual fighting style (and also remember how Hawlucha fights given he had one in XY and was the last Hawlucha that was seen in the series as well), he was simply bested by the stronger opponent. That being said, I did say like a month ago that I wanted to see Ash lose a PWC fight at some point to give him a setback, and thus I'm not surprised it came via an in-game character, though I will say going into the episode I kinda thought that he was gonna lose given a future episode for next month that was revealed yesterday mentions "Ash vs Bea", and my initial thoughts that the battle in that instance was more likely to be instigated by Ash. One other thing I want to mention regarding the battle was that like the episode in which Ash caught his Farfetch'd, I didn't know that Grapploct was using Close Combat as like Night Slash, the subs was using the Japanese name for the attack. Liquidation was a different matter as even though the Japanese name was used in the subs, it was the only physical water move I could see Grapploct using (Waterfall didn't make much sense tbf).
As for Go, I'm not too bothered that he got Hitmonchan off-screen but I did like that they gave a nod to the in-game event where you can choose between Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan, granted you beat the Karate Master first. But on the flipside, I am disappointed that we didn't see said battle as it was explained that Go had to beat the Karate Master.

I would pretty much like that, but I don't know. Everything leads to Pika vs Charizard( Giga battle) in the end, tbh.

I'm not that shock Ash lost so badly Riolu hatched not to long ago and Galarian Farfetch'd was just recently caught a few episodes ago.

To be fair, her smile being very charming is a aspect of her character, i.e. something she shows to people she considers special.
Or whoever the hell made her smile to someone who didn't even fight her.

What makes you think that Ash will just get to the top 8 in PWC?

I literally am unsure how this works.

Why would Ash suddenly not want to try to beat Leon? Is there like a 3 strike rule that if you lose 3 times, you have to reset your rank, and have to climb it all over again, because that would be kind of hilarious if that was the case but it would also be equally annoying.

So does Ash somehow decide that Leon is just unbeatable and just gives up? Does someone else beat Leon and just completely obliterates Ash's team in a full battle, and asks Ash to go to 9th generation land, and train new Pokemon along with old Pokemon, and do the challenge trinket quest in order to have a rematch.

I feel the only way this works, is if conditions can be imposed in order to challenge the "World Champion" again, I otherwise am confused as to how it all works otherwise. Does the season end, with Leon being the world champion but everyone else's rank resets and they have to climb to the top again?

Pikachu vs Charizard can be the final match up in the full battle. Just as how Greninja vs Mega Charizard was the final match up in Ash and Alain's full battle

After watching the episode I’m at a loss for words when people actually thought Ash was going to win. I mean Bea a fighting type specialist taken out by riolu and Newly caught farfetch’d which are two fighting types? If Ash used a little brain power he would have used gengar in the rematch because You can’t grapple a ghost XD

Bea seemed like a jerk and rude. Korrina will probably return and easily defeat Bea later on in the series. She seems like such a weak trainer who got lucky against Ash. Bea will probably end up being an even worse and even more overrated character than Lillie was.

The narrator saying "so far Ash has been undefeated" isn't ominous at all lol. If you ask me, sounds like he'll soon be the title of AG159: off the unbeaten path

So they couldn't give Ash-Greninja Night Slash but they give it to Galarian Farfetch'd? Really?

OCTOLOCK! SO ****ING EPIC

It's kind of nuts that Bea was able to do 2 battles back-to-back without healing

Wait.. Goh just wins his first match ever and it happens offscreen?! What is this show

Wait.. why did the dub play the lyrics of the opening over the ending theme this episode? It's the only episode out of all 36 where that happens?

He could've used Dragonite or Pikachu and come close to beating her but no Riolu wants to battle.

It has been four regions and he is still making the same mistakes.

I'm pretty sure he came to the Fighting Dojo to train his Fighting Pokémon.

Sad Farfetch'd didn't get a win but at least it sets up a more intense rematch against Hawlucha, that's ultimately better than an easy win here imo, I love it when the Pokemon themselves feel emotionally invested into the battle, I wanna see some determined duck.

A Fighting Bird on a Fighting Bird! Two of the only Fighting Bird Pokémon that exist, although I just remembered Blaziken is another

The loss against Cameron wasn't humiliating, at least no for Ash but it was still a bad loss. Not as bad as Tobias or Paul(4-0) but still very bad.

It was the most humiliating loss of Ash's career and BWS2-24 is the worst episode in Pokémon history. It may not quantitatively be worse than Tobias or Paul but it is qualitiatively the worst loss of Ash's career

Was not expecting Goh to leave this episode with anything.

It's too bad that his victory against the karate master was off-screened.

This was his first official match since Hoji, coming off of the victory against team rocket last week.

Who is Hoji? Usually Bulbapedia is usually good at translating Japanese names but it came up empty for me on this one.

The Fighting Dojo appears to be the same one from AG, however there wasn't any references to that AG episode, it doesn't matter much but it just feels kinda weird for people who have watched that episode before.

oh yeah, the infamous "last 4kids episode". I was so sad at the time (as a child) about the old voices going away that I barely remember much of the plot of the episode and couldn't have told you it took place at the Fighting Dojo.. I had to actually check on Bulbapedia which past episode had had the Fighting Dojo because I didn't remember any such episode. I think it's funny they titled the episode Pasta La Vista! to say goodbye

I still don't get how Go beat that Karate Master. I hope we get a flashback somewhere down the line.

It's a total embarrassing botchjob of an episode to offscreen his first career win.

I don't know, there's just a mess of confusion here, that could've been averted if they just left Korrina out of this. But yeah of course 8th generation bias has to rear its ugly head again.

Well here's the thing. By making Bea, Raihan, etc way stronger than gym counterparts from other generations, what they've done is actually solve a conundrum that was frequently discussed in the fandom before Ash became a Champion: people always said, if Ash ever wins, then how could they continue his story in the next generation because the gyms would be too easy for him. And they have to showcase the gym leaders from the next gen since the anime is marketing for the games. Well, it turned out they were able to have Ash become Champion by still having him face gym leaders, just in a different competition. Therefore it's not like "why is Ash going back to traveling the region and battling gym leaders" but they are still able to include the gym leaders in the anime. So because Ash isn't battling Bea at her gym, but instead in this global competition, it's fine for her to be stronger. I would say rather than "bias" as you say, it's more of them solving a pretty interesting conundrum of how to continue Ash's journey post-Champion but still showcase the gym leaders.

Finally a humiliating loss for Ash, something that hasn't happened in a long time.
Also Bea seems pretty cool and intimidating. I've been wanting to see a rival like her in the anime for a long time now. I'm glad that she called Korrina weak and naive, Korrina was extremely overrated anyways.

You were one of the first people I thought of when I saw this episode! I know you've wanted a female strong battler in the anime for so long, even better if she becomes Ash's rival!

Imagine you had an entire arc dedicated to your growth only to come back and be this seasons dormat, poor Korrina man LOL

inevitable power creep in a long-runner

You seem to be rational. The guys I saw on Twitter just want to trashtalk Ash and even called him "that **** of the Alola Champion" or something like that.

I can't even figure out what swear word this is supposed to be lol

It feels a little forced because they are nothing special in the games

well, it may be a little forced, but anime != games and the anime writers had a tough challenge this gen of how to showcase the gym leaders while having Ash do a different competition post-Championship

I think she is good to be in super class, there are lot of trainers around stronger than her, easily likes of Trip, Paul and Cameron would beat her with their ace pokimons. Ash has used his underdeveloped mons, results would have been otherwise if it was his ace battled.

Cameron wouldn't do ****, and tbh probably not Trip either

The overhyped of Bea right now is kinda crazy... sure she didn't struggle at all in this match, but her Pokemon didn't OHKO Ash's lesser team members either. And it's not like Farfetch'd and Riolu are all that weak... in Farfetch'd case, it had a terrible type matchup and still only knows Night Slash and Brutal Swing

I don't understand why Ash won't teach Farfetch'd STAB moves

Even though I've mostly accepted the world tour format, I do agree that the Galar gyms would have been challenging enough for champion!Ash to battle. Plus it would've shut up the people who invalidate his Alola league win because "he didn't challenge gyms".

Yes but if Ash had done that, those same people would have said "is it a real championship because why would a real champion go and battle lowly gyms in the next region"

you can't win with these people lmao

She wasn't a major rival nor legit; she was pretty much a joke

agreed, all she ever wanted to do was get Ash to take off his clothes by pretending to be clumsy enough to conveniently knock Ash into the water every time they met

Pretty sure Ash vs. Leon at least will be a full battle despite all the Master Class battles so far being 1 vs. 1. The writers would definitely want to make a spectacle out of that battle

If it's Ash's last battle ever in the history of the anime, I hope it's 5 episodes
