It's time I start going for decent decks, instead of throwing together cards I have. And for my first real deck, I've decided on a Beast theme. I've whipped up a prototype, and would like criticism...

Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys
Behemoth the King of All Animals
Behemoth the King of All Animals
Manticore of Darkness

Royal Decree
Royal Decree

Notes:
- I will not remove Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys from this deck idea. It's my favourite card, and it can also be used to bring back my Manticores from the grave. Which, if I'm right, would kick in Phoenix's ability next turn.
- Spells and Traps. Not really confident with those, so assistance is welcomed. Lighting Vortex is there mostly for the Manticores.

Thanks in advance,
Joshua

Sadly, you won't activate SPoN's effect by tributing it for Manticore, because you're TRIBUTING, not DESTROYING.

Now, let's begin with the deck:

Tribute Monsters (5+):
Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys
Behemoth the King of All Animals
Behemoth the King of All Animals
Manticore of Darkness
Manticore of Darkness

Non-Tribute Monsters (1-4):
Winged Sages Falcos
Winged Sages Falcos
Nimble Momonga

Spells:

Traps:
Sakaretsu Armour

Call of the Haunted
Magic Cylinder
Draining Shield
Draining Shield
Magic Drain
Magic Drain
Royal Decree
Royal Decree

First, you can't run Royal Decree AND traps in the same deck, well you can, but it's not very smart. You're running Phoenix anyway, which is s/t removal, so why exactly are you dedicating part of your deck to negating something you're going to destroy anyway?

-Royal Decree x2

As I said before, you're running Phoenix, which destroys s/ts, so you need to have highly chainable traps, if any.

-Magic Drain x2
-Draining Shield x2
-Magic Cylinder
-Call of the Haunted
-Sakuretsu Armor x2

I assume you want to play in the advanced format, so we need to drop a few cards so you qualify.

-Nobleman of Crossout
-Snatch Steal

Next, as I pointed out with your traps, you need spells that don't stand on the field, so:

-Swords of Revealing Light

Finally, a lot of these cards are either too bulky or are unnecessary, or a combination of both.

-Behemoth, King of all Animals x2
-Manticore of Darkness x2
-Winged Sage Falcos x2
-Soul Tiger x3
-Pitch Dark Warwolf x2
-Chiron the Mage x2
-Mad Dog of Darkness x3
-King Tiger Wanghu x2
-Berserk Gorilla x2
-Lightning Vortex

Of course, I've basically destroyed your Beast theme, but it's not incredibly conhesive with the Phoenix you felt was necessary in the deck. Of course, you could build a Beast deck around it, but there are better themes revolving around Phoenix. In fact, I'm going to show you one of my favorites.

We've lost 34 out of 41 cards, so we need 33 new ones.

The cards we kept:

Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys
Nimble Momonga x3
Nobleman of Crossout
Graceful Charity
Mystical Space Typhoon

+Zaborg the Thunder Monarch x2
+Treeborn Frog
+Elemental Hero Wildheart x3
+Exiled Force x2
+Sangan
+Apprentice Magician x2
+Magician of Faith
+Hand of Nephthys
+Old Vindictive Magician x2
+Breaker the Magical Warrior
+Last Will
+Scapegoat
+Enemy Controller x3
+Book of Moon
+Confiscation
+Heavy Storm
+Premature Burial
+Needle Ceiling x3
+Torrential Tribute
+Reckless Greed x2
+Jar of Greed x2

So, unless of forgotten something, this deck should be quite complete:

Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys
Nimble Momonga x3
Zaborg the Thunder Monarch x2
Treeborn Frog
Elemental Hero Wildheart x3
Exiled Force x2
Sangan
Apprentice Magician x2
Magician of Faith
Hand of Nephythys
Old Vindictive Magician x2
Breaker the Magical Warrior

Last Will
Nobleman of Crossout
Mystical Space Typhoon
Graceful Charity
Scapegoat
Enemy Controller x3
Book of Moon
Confiscation
Heavy Storm
Premature Burial

Needle Ceiling x3
Torrential Tribute
Reckless Greed x2
Jar of Greed x2

The point of the deck is, of course, to use Needle Ceiling to gain advantage. Whether it be by using Elemental Hero Wildheart to bait an onslaught straight into Needle Ceiling, or to use it to trigger Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys' ability and destroy s/ts. You also have quite a bit of searchability in Apprentice Magician and Last Will, but remember, these are utility cards, don't always fetch the same thing, unless of course you can use it to it's full extent.

o_O That's... quite an overhaul.

But, although I appreciate the advice, the idea was to design a Beast deck around Nephthys. Also, I did research the cards I put in this deck, and Snatch Steal and NoC are not forbidden anymore (unless I read the new list wrong).

And the effect of Manticore says 'Send one Beast, Beast-Warrior or Winged-Beast to the graveyard.' That may not be the exact words, but it does say send one. Is that actually classed as a tribute, or a cost to a card effect?

And Royal Decree I put in the deck so that I could stall my opponent's traps, then blow them to hell when Nephthys came back.

Once again, thank you for the advice.

lol jar of greed.

Sending to the graveyard and destroying is not one in the same, so you cant use Spoon's effect like that. Wow wouldnt that be devastating. Anyway, I'll toss some ideas in your head here.

I'll start with your monster selection.

Tribute Monsters (5+):
Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys
Behemoth the King of All Animals
Behemoth the King of All Animals
Manticore of Darkness
Manticore of Darkness

Non-Tribute Monsters (1-4):
Winged Sages Falcos
Winged Sages Falcos
Nimble Momonga
Nimble Momonga
Nimble Momonga
Berserk Gorilla
Berserk Gorilla
Pitch-Dark Warwolf
Pitch-Dark Warwolf
King Tiger Wanghu
King Tiger Wanghu
Mad Dog of Darkness
Mad Dog of Darkness
Mad Dog of Darkness
Chiron the Mage
Chiron the Mage
Soul Tiger
Soul Tiger
Soul Tiger

You have too many tribs in my opinion here. Manticore would be better for the deck over behemoth because its recursion effect is DIRECT, rather than grave-to-hand. Also we're gonna be concentrating more on beasts than birds, so. lets see.

-3 Soul Tiger
-3 Mad Dog
-2 Falcos
-2 Behemoth
-1 Chiron

Yeah, thats a lot of the monster board. But thats okay, its time to throw some synergy in.

2 Giant Rat
2 Exiled Force
2 Enraged Battle Ox
2 Cyber Dragon
1 Sangan
1 Hand of Nepthys
1 Breaker
If you run a nepthys, you run a hand. If you run beasts, you run Enraged Battle Ox. Its like left and right, yin and yang. It just doesent work as well if you dont have all parts of the equation, you follow?

Now for the spells/traps:

Spells:
Graceful Charity
Snatch Steal
Swords of Revealing Light
Mystical Space Typhoon
Lightning Vortex
Nobleman of Crossout
Nobleman of Crossout

Traps:
Sakaretsu Armour
Sakaretsu Armour
Call of the Haunted
Magic Cylinder
Draining Shield
Draining Shield
Magic Drain
Magic Drain
Royal Decree
Royal Decree

Ok first of all; you have some list issues. Snatch Steal has been banned, and Nobleman has been restricted, so that automatically means:

-Snatch Steal
-Nobleman of Crossout

Now to thin out whats unnecessary.

-2 Draining Shield
-2 Royal Decree

Time to add the best of both worlds:

+Heavy Storm
+Book of Moon
+2 Creature Swap
+2 Smashing Ground
+Mirror Force
+Ring of Destruction

Ok, with my fixes, your deck should look like this:

1 Sacred Pheonix of Nepthys
2 Manticore of Darkness
2 Cyber Dragon
3 Nimble Momonga
2 Berserk Gorilla
2 Exiled Force
2 Giant Rat
2 Pitch-Black Warwolf
1 Chiron the Mage
1 Sangan
1 Breaker the Magical Warrior
1 Hand of Nepthys

2 Smashing Ground
2 Creature Swap
1 Heavy Storm
1 Book of Moon
1 Graceful Charity
1 Nobleman of Crossout
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 Swords of Revealing Light
1 Lightning Vortex
1 Graceful Charity

2 Sakuretsu Armor
2 Magic Drain
1 Mirror Force
1 Ring of Destruction
1 Call of the Haunted
1 Magic Cylinder

lol. Jason, eat your heart out. Im gonna start doing EVERY deckfix like this, lol

Right-o, time for an update. I've been using the majority of Requiem's suggestions (thanks, btw) on the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2006 game, and so far, what I've built is holding quite well. Except a few minor details, such as Mirror Force, Graceful Charity and RoD being banned on my game thus far.

This is what I've been running:

2 Berserk Gorilla
1 Breaker
1 Chiron the Mager
2 CyDra
2 Enraged Battle Ox
1 Exiled Force
2 Giant Rat
1 Hand of Nephthys
2 King Tiger Wanghu (this guy really comes in handing against cards like UFO Turtle)
2 Manticore of Darkness
3 Nimble Momonga
2 Pitch-Black Warwolf
1 Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys
1 Sangan

1 Book of Moon
2 Creature Swap
1 Forest
1 Heavy Storm
1 Lightning Vortex
1 MST
1 NoC
1 Pot of Greed
1 Premature Burial
2 Smashing Ground
1 Snatch Steal
1 SoRL

1 Call of the Haunted
1 Magic Cylinder
2 Magic Drain
2 Sakuretsu Armour
1 Torrential Tribute

Torrential is really coming in handy for destroying really strong cards, and triggers both Manticore's and Phoenix's abilities. Forest is coming in handy when Berserk Gorilla can topple a CyDra.

Now, besides any further suggestions, my newest question concerns a completely un-related card, Metamorphosis. I'm considering including Meta to morph my Manticore into a Dark Flare Knight, who could then summon Mirage Knight for a 2800 point hit. Then, circumstances permitting at turn's end, Mirage Knight dies, Manticore comes back.

What do you guys think?

Random Forest in beast can be just as fun as random Yami in Fiend.

Metamorphosis wont activate Manticore's effect.

Um... it just did. I'm playing World Championship 2006 as we speak, and I just used Meta on my Manticore, and it did trigger it's effect (bloody cost me my Phoenix, mind you, since it was my only applicable monster).

YGO is an ever changing game, sometimes the rules of cards change like how Heavy Mech Support Platform was destroyed for limited removal instead of the machine monster and the monster kept its double ATK, now it doesn't keep its double.

But I dunno if its one of those situations.

You cant trust the videogames, chances are the game just looks for Manticore to be sent to the graveyard, and then asks you to activate the effect.

www.netrep.net <<< use it. USE IT FOR IT TELLS YOU THE RULINGS..

And it beats going to the mainsite and scrolling down a page. Or using ctrl f. Not like they dont get their rulings from the mainsite, verbatim.
