Beauty is a Beast

Haters Gonna Hate
As the topic name suggests, this thread is on Look bias.

I was reading Time and found somthing rather shocking.

a Hooters girl had been fired becuase she had gained 3 pounds, and was replaced with a girl due to the new girl having a bigger set of assets.

now as a guy, I like te bigger assets, but really? 3 pounds?

and other instances, the pretty yet stupid blonde gets the job an average jane who knows the job perfectly, could've done better.

and bring te media into your thoughts, how you have to use sex to sell stuff now, and commercials are all about you having to be the prettiest.

The main age they start to bombard children with this is their early teens, by using popular icons of the time, creates a society were the girls think they need to sell themselves to earn money (and not sell yourself as in a good resume) and all that garbage.

Anywho, debate about Beauty Bias, and how the media keeps feeding a beast.

Looks are killer. I mean on one level, guys are bending over backwards to even have a chance to get with these girls, meaning that the lesser looking ones are usually cast aside. However; some of the lesser ones actually have some personality while some of the beauties think they'll get places using solely that factor. It's a messed up system, but I feel like sometimes the Plain Jane gets the job done better.

damn strait!

but in all seriousness from here out.

Not hating on modern disney since old disney did it too, just better, but newer disney shows almost scream You wont win if your not pretty.

If you line up a cast of charecters for a show, the ugly mishapen muscular dimwit will 95% of the time be the high school villian, while the main charecter (who is a handome fellow who has a crush on local cheerleader) is aparently ugly, and unpopular despite being prettier than everyone else, and wearng the same fasion.

I sometimes envy the days of non-instant information. Before TVs and Computers. Radio's fine, because you don't get to see the people and I'm sure there wasn't too much smut radio back then.
Keeping up with the Jones's has really skyrocketed since these advents. Except now it's much more unlikely you'll be able to do it when the Jones's are all gorgeous superstar celebrities, who are all secretly dying on the inside.

Beauty is point of view, what society today sometimes tries to do is tell people that looking this way will make people like you, which isn't true, there is some one for some one out there in the world. Do looks play a part in this, of course they do human's aren't blind we are visual we see things, some people don't look visually appealing to others, you can say it's the inside that counts, but the outside should not be forgotten about either, after all it's the outside that can tell if you're healthy or not. Those super skinny models are favored amongst the fashion crowd, well not to me, I'd break them by accident just trying to hold their hand and some women prefer big fat business men some prefer overly muscular guys, some prefer skinny boys and it goes on.
As far as society forcing people to look "pretty" Well some one is bound to be pretty to some one so I think it's pretty much balanced, I think some tend to over react with this.
That gal who got fired from hooters, in such a business looks are part of it, if being 3 pound more violates any laws that they have oh well it's the company's law, if she was fired from a different kind of job were there are no weight/looks rules then you could say it's discrimination.

I'll just leave this here.

Is this an indicative of Americans in general?

Because here, the girls can be both nice to look at and be around. Damn annoying when they're already taken, which most are (No, really, it's statistically proven).

You don't need stats to determine that intelligent, pretty girls are going to be mostly taken :p

I just wanted to depress everyone. Most people probably think "There has to be someone out there for me!" Truth is, for most people, there isn't.

I'd go with the one whose boyfriend is an exchange student, though.

Some Americans on television, yes, are seriously like this.

If everyone lets someone who is beautiful get a free pass, and then they realize through positive reinforcement that their beauty can convince people to do things for them, they can become spoiled.

So I guess they all went online at some point?

While I agree with your overall post, you are being a little too optimistic when you try to give hope for people who are, how should I say, "less desirable".

I really do not think there is a good proportion of people who actively search for 300 pound men/women.. at least out in the streets lol

not the color
Some people are so prejudice, ignorant and shallow it makes me sick. Not everyone who's beautiful is taken or full of themselves. Some never get asked out b/c everyone else assumes they're already in a relationship. That's why 10s date 10s, because the "plain" ones never hit on the gorgeous ones. People of the same gender flirt with the attractive person's bf/gf/spouse/potential dates, because they assume the beautiful person can get anyone else they want. Stop trying to make people feel sorry for the "plain janes." "Plain janes" can get anyone they want to. It's easier for them to get dates. At least in Jersey. For a "plain jane" to think beautiful people can get anybody, they're an ignorant moron with faulty logic. Also, red heads have it hard, too, because of the friggin' firecrotch comment, and because red heads get teased for the color. I'm a red head, and it's not that bad down there.

... who is doing this? I don't think anyone here is saying that the Plain Janes won't get anywhere, just that, in today's society, they often don't. I'm not sure why you're calling people shallow for telling the truth, or even for being sarcastic.

I don't view anyone as ugly. Everyone has something about them that makes them great, but I hate horrible personalities that are so obsessed with other people's looks. I know plenty of attractive people who care less about other people's appearances.

Alright...? Again, nobody here is saying only beautiful people are good people. These sound like assumptions you're making.

STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS. HAVE SELF-LOVE. NO ONE IS BETTER THAN ANYONE. STOP PUSHING YOUR INSECURITIES OFF ON OTHERS. IT'S THE PERSONALITY THAT COUNTS MOST, because that's what you have to deal with when you get married. Can you put up with their personality? Or will you get sick of them?

1) When you kiss, your eyes are closed. 2) When you do it, the lights are off. So who cares?

However, not everyone is as deep as you and you need to accept that. Some of us are shallow and want to date attractive people, and you can't condemn them for that.

All of your other points--comparing oneself, being better or worse than others, having insecurities--are, again, assumptions. You have no reason to be sick to your stomach when everything that you're upset about was conjured up in your head.

And saying

just doesn't make sense. That's like saying "You can eat and digest an apple, you can eat and digest a centipede. So who cares what you eat?" People obviously have preferences as far as their significant other's personal appearance (I personally like brunettes), so saying "who cares?" is sort of... naive.

A great personality is what most people are looking for. But the (for some, cold) truth is, a lot of people want something more attractive on their boy/girlfriend than a nice personality.

People need to accept the hope & confidence all I can do is tell them things, the ugliest dude on earth could make himself successful if he puts his other qualities to use and "believes", if you lack in other qualities then work on them to make them better that's what I can suggest.

I really do not think there is a good proportion of people who actively search for 300 pound men/women.. at least out in the streets lol
Some searches take longer than others, but people will be found eventually by some one in the end (unless you die right away). If you really don't like how you look then change yourself in the areas you think are flawed, that's the easiest solution, If the personality is the problem then maybe some personality changes are in order.

If you don't care how you look like then I'm not too sure you should be complaining nor do I think you would be too depressed about it. If you are being discriminated against because you look less desirable then you can bring it up in a court of law and those who discriminate are what's really ugly about society.
