I loved the Neo sets, especially Revelation. Revelation introduced some of the game's most powerful cards, and really started to speed the game up. Sure, it was nothing as fast as it is now, but it really sped the game up. My favorite card from the whole set is Raikou (surprise, surprise), with Suicune being a close second. Anyone remember these?
Raikou
80 HP
{L}
BASIC
Pokémon Power: Lightning Burst
Whenever you attach a L Energy Card from your hand to Raikou, your opponent switches his/her Defending Pokémon with one of his/her Benched Pokémon (if any). This power stops working while Raikou is Asleep, COnfused, or Paralyzed.
LLL: Lightning Tackle 50
Flip a coin. If tails, Raikou deals 20 damage to itself.
Weakness: F
Resistance:
Ratreat Cost: 1
Shuffle their bench and hit the crap out of their Pokémon. There is nowhere to hide from Raikou!
Suicune
70 HP
{W}
BASIC
Pokémon Power: Crystal Body
Prevent all effects of attacks, except damage, done to Suicune. This power stops working while Suicune is Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed.
WWW: Aurora Wave 30
Flip 2 coins. If both are heads, the defending Pokémon is Paralyzed. If one is heads, the defending Pokémon is Asleep.
Weakness: L
Resistance:
Retreat Cost: 1
This card stops the Mr. Mime EX deck cold, but it can't do anything. It would be a matter of whoever doesn't deck out to be the winner in most cases. Additionally, its attack has a 75% chance of inflicting a status ailment. And 30 damage for WWW with any chance for status wasn't that bad then.
These were two of the most broken cards in the game. I used them both along with the 60 HP Entei in a traffic light-style LRW deck with Lugia from NeoGenesis (the 80 HP Entei only works well in a straight R deck). It poaned all but the fastest decks. Not to mention we had powerhouse basics like Electabuzz that could deal 30 guaranteed damage and possibly 10 more for just 1L.
Electabuzz (base), Magmar (fossil), and Lapras (fossil) were the weaker attackers of the deck to buy me time while I try to draw and power up a legendary Pokémon. To speed up the process, I ran Kangaskhan (jungle), the best drawing engine in the game. Just for a cost of 1, you could draw an extra card every turn (it used up your attack though.) Still, that's plenty of drawing power. Four Energy Searches also let me get the correct colors when I needed them. With no need for Evolution cards, it really freed up deck space for Energy and Trainers. I think I was running 16 basics and 15 trainers in the deck, leaving 29 Energy. I believe I ran 8 each of LRW, with four Rainbow and one double colorless for retreating some of my stallers. Call me crazy, but having that much energy solved all my problems.
